Chapter 51: Shield and Spear

Chapter 51: Shield and Spear

"Is this really mine?" Harun asked, inspecting the spear that could be described as nothing less than the best she has seen her whole life.

"Yes, and this is for you Sebastian." Zeke said, handing the shield to the male servant who didn't know what expression to have or what words he should say. The male elf hugged the shield as if it's his girlfriend and began murmuring to himself.

"And for my favorite elf, here's yours." Zeke said, handing the [Infinity Bow] to Sylph.

"Thanks." Sylph forced the words out of her mouth. She still didn't like Zeke but, she couldn't let this favor go without showing gratitude.

"As for our dear sorcerers, I'll have to collect materials today. But before that, I want to personally see you guys use those new weapons." Zeke told the three as they all transported at the same spot.

Zeke then gave the instructions for what will happen the whole day through. With the new weapons in their hands, Zeke wants the first boss to be summoned. And to make sure that it does, Zeke will give the instructions to the new weapon users in order to balance the offense and defense in the battlefield.

Even with the weapons, a party must still work with total cooperation and understanding of each member's strengths and weaknesses. Without this, the mission set by Zeke will fall apart as there will be imbalances to the grinding done the whole day through.

"We'll start with Sebastian." Zeke said, making the Defender step forward, carrying his [Negation Shield].

The opponents faced by Sebastian are 2 [Arachnid Wolves]. The surrounding is secured with Zeke's Conjures and his [Poison Cloud] assuring that no other monster will be able to step inside.

The battle began with both monsters shooting out their webs towards the male elf. Much to their surprise however, is how their webs suddenly vanished as this hit the shield.

"Holy crap it works!" Sebastian shouted.

"Of course it does. Now wait for the barrier function to kick in." Zeke replied.

Sebastian did as he is told. The monsters performed the same attack but, seeing as how their opponent does not get affected by the webs, they decided to strike with their claws. One attacked at the front, becoming a diversion for the other wolf that went for Sebastian's back.

Sylph was about to shoot the wolf that aimed for Sebastian's blind spot. Zeke stopped her, telling the elf to 'watch closely' as the barrier finally went up. The wolf was already halfway through its attack and so, it didn't stop from hitting the barrier.

No dent was made to Sebastian as he stood within the barrier's protection. The monsters both backed away, thinking of the next move which they could make.

"Good. Now force them to attack you. Rush forward and deal with everything they can throw at you." Zeke instructed again. He used the [Voice Chat] in order to ensure that the elf could hear him loud and clear.

Sebastian did as instructed and dashed forward. This gave a surprise to the wolves which thought that their enemy could not make any physical attacks. They are right however, Sebastian cannot perform an attack yet. That is, until the blast is charged.

The monsters used what seem to be a variation of [Quick Step] as they aimed for the Defender's blind spots. However, the barrier prevented them from making any advances.

"Try your best to get them to hit your shield. Otherwise you'll run out of charge for your barrier and frankly, not enough for a blast." Zeke followed up.

This is the only downside of the shield which he made. If the shield isn't' hit, then nothing can be stored as the barrier does not serve as an extension of the shield. Sebastian followed calmly and was able to make half of the attacks land on his shield. With all this happening, Zeke calmly directed the flow of the battle.

The wolves then showed a sign of speeding down. With this, Zeke gave the next command.

"Wait for both of them to make a physical attack. Then use the blast." Zeke instructed.

Sebastian followed, nullifying the next set of spells that the wolves used to try and make even a bit of damage. However, Sebastian's shield just absorbed this, enraging the wolves which finally made a physical attack.

As soon as they came within range, Sebastian pulled the trigger which hid behind the shield. The outward blast took down both wolves instantly, halving their health pool.

"Now bash them until they die." Zeke instructed, making Sebastian rush forward and continually smash the wolves until they died.

Throughout the battle, not a single damage was made to Sebastian. However, the fight took too long and needed a lot of preparations. But, Zeke thought that this is okay because, the primary job of Sebastian is to defend and not to attack. The blast feature is just there to provide extra firepower in case it is needed.

"Master Zeke did you see that! I was awesome!" Sebastian shouted through the [Voice Chat]. The male elf got excited because this is the first time he engaged in battle where he is the one making the advances and, also killing the enemies.

"It seems like Sebastian has grown a liking to you." Sylvia told Zeke merrily.

"Well he's liking the wrong person." Zeke said knowing that there's not much to like about his personality. The only reasons involved in him helping the group is because they'll help him finish his quests and, the second is his amusement at leveling them up.

"Okay, come back Sebastian. Harun will come next." Zeke said, making the male elf back away. He then created an opening to his [Poison Cloud] using Erio to strike a division. This allowed three [Pyke Boars] to enter.

The female servant is already at the center, awaiting her opponents.

"What should I do sir?" Harun asked politely.

"That spear works as a sort of extension to your body. Extending and retracting it works through thought command." Zeke told the female elf who saw the [Pyke Boars] approaching from two directions. Two boars ran around while, a single boar came rushing towards her.

Harun began with her basic stance. Facing in an almost sideward position with her knees slightly bent. Her left arm is stretched forward with her palm facing the direction she is aiming at. The right hand which gripped the spear is held back by a little, with the arm being bent.

Harun looked closely at the minimap, waiting for the single [Pyke Boar] to reach the perfect range and, just as it did, she thrusted her spear forward. The [Thousand Spear] extended in a flash and, as it came back, there is already blood on it.

"Oh god." Harun said, having great difficulty in comprehending that she now has a weapon that seem to be the perfection of spears.

"Don't get distracted. That boar is still alive." Zeke said, looking at the minimap and showing that the boar is still approaching Harun.

"Yes." Harun said with a smile on her face. She then tried a different stance, using the same body position but, this time, the hand holding the spear is stretched back. She waited for her enemy to come out of the number of tress that hindered her spear. As soon as it did, she made the spear lengthen while also creating a wide semi-circular swing. This sliced the board in half, making the group that stayed on top of the trees clap their hands in approval.

"Nice one Harun!" Sylph shouted.

After this brief moment, the female elf went back to targeting the other boars which are still alive. The problem is, they kept running sideways with all the trees getting in Harun's way. At this, Zeke thought of an idea.

"Harun are you afraid of heights?" He asked.

"No sir. I don't believe that I am."

"Can you try pointing your Spear down and thrusting upward?" Zeke continued.

"Pardon?" Was the only word that Harun could say. Just words aren't enough for her to execute every command that would come after the first one so, Zeke decided to come down and show the elf what he meant.

"Lupus, keep those boars occupied but don't kill them." Zeke said, to which, his loyal Conjure howled.

Zeke then began drawing on the ground using a small dagger. He gave the female elf the same concept of a pole vault athlete. If a human tried imitating this, they'd fail of course. But this woman is a trained warrior whose strength far exceeds a commoner from earth. If anything, she'd be able to perform it with only a slight alteration. This is what Zeke thought as he finished his instruction.

"Retract your spear as soon as you reach the peak of the jump. Then, face downward and extend your spear again. Target the boar as much as you want because you'd have a lot of chances with how fast the Spear's extension and retracting are." Zeke finished. At this, he dissolved Lupus, making the boars run around again.

Zeke thought that the female elf would have a hard time understanding what he said explained but, the only thing said by Harun is the word:

"Understood."
