Chapter 60: A kinda special demon found
Mark and Dona had to fly through the peripheries of the mega-dungeon for hours on end before they finally saw a suitable candidate. It was a very simple-looking Minotaur, and staring at it from a distance, Mark's golden eyes couldn't help but shine.
The creature was perfect for his needs!
Moreover, he had a solid chance of defeating it in a fight.
It was a Lower Demon at the (Medium) level, and all four demonic tricks it had were incredibly well suited for Mark.
He was willing to take any of the four abilities that this Demon had as his Puppet's Hunter Ability. All four were good enough.
Since he couldn't choose what demonic trick he would get when he Awakened anyway, he might as well choose the one with the highest chance of meeting his needs.
Becoming greedy for an incredible ability would just be stupid if he didn't end up getting it at all.
The Minotaur was asleep on an abandoned highway, basking in the warm sunlight. For a long distance, no other demon was around it, and Mark could guess why.
The Minotaurs, as many as he had seen, seemed like the laziest creatures. They were incredibly slow even though their bodies were incredibly strong. They were clumsy and lazy, and they felt like creatures who lived alone.
Mark landed on an alley near the Minotaur and let Dona down on the ground. He then looked toward the target intensely. Indeed, he had always liked some of the powers that these Minotaurs had.
"Dona, don't come close unless I call you," he said.
Then, he gently pushed Dona deeper into the alley. There were many small demons around in this alley, too—rat-like creatures—but none of them could harm Dona because they had no actual demonic tricks other than their bodies.
Dona's Resistance alone would handle the rats for her.
There was no hundred percent safe place in this mega-dungeon and she should also learn to keep herself in check.
She looked at him somewhat pitifully but Mark just rubbed her head, "I'll call you when I need you, just wait."
"Ur…" she drooped her head.
Mark smiled and slowly walked out of the alleyway towards the Minotaur. His golden eyes shimmered as the shadows left him and the sun bathed him through the dome of the mega-dungeon.
[Corrosive Blood Minotaur]
[Tier 1—Lower Demon]
[Physique: 60/60 (Medium)]
[Mind: 60/60 (Medium)]
[Cultivated Powers: Soul Sense (60 meters), Defensive Magic Skin (Tier 1)]
[Demonic Tricks (Tier 1): Soul Devourer, Totem of Rage. Sharp Horns (Medium), Corrosive Blood Fist (Medium), Corrosive Blood Arrow (Medium)]
[Resistances: Physical Resistance (High), Mental Resistance (Medium), Corrosive Blood Resistance (High).]
Mark floated into the skies and looked at the Demon coldly.
This was the first time that he saw a Demon with a higher Resistance on two things than their own cultivation.
He himself only had a higher Heart Resistance. Even though he was a 'Pinnacle' Tier-1 Demon, his Heart Resistance was 'Low' Tier-2.
Even though his Bloodline was a mutant mix of the bloodlines, Dream, Dungeon, and Heart Demon Bloodlines, he only had one such better Resistances and this Demon had two. Both its Physical and Corrosion Resistance was a Sub-Tier higher than its evolution Tier.
Once again, Mark was reminded that he was a green horn.
The Minotaur still hadn't noticed his gaze, but if he used Soul Sense, it would immediately see through him. One Soul Sense was incredibly sensitive to other Soul Senses.
Flap. Flap.
He rose higher into the skies and when he was exactly on top of the enemy, he began to descend like a bullet. His veins all bulged, and he roared as the wind blasted against his face. The Minotaur looked up with its deep black eyes and roared at him.
Too late and too weak.
Mark's hand slammed against the Demon's face with incredible force.
Boom!
The road surrounding the creature's body sank down, and the land broke into pieces. The demon screamed in pain.
"AAARGH!"
Mark, though, wasn't celebrating and quickly put up a hand to his side in defense. The screaming Minotaur was far from incapacitated—only its Defensive Magic Skin had been broken.
This was why an ambush wouldn't work on Demons like that.
"Gh!"
Its fist slammed into his side, and Mark was blasted off.
His face rubbed against the tarred surface of the ground, and his body rolled in the air like a spinner. Many of his feathers were also torn away before he was plastered onto the wall of a building.
His wings twitched.
A huge crater appeared on that wall.
Gr…
He groaned.
His own Defensive Magic Skin had also been broken.
"That was good," he said coldly.
The Minotaur had used one of its demonic tricks—
Totem of Rage.
Its whole body was now covered in black tattoos, and its horns were shining darkly. Mark breathed heavily and glared at it with immense greed.
Indeed, it was not a bad ability. If the Demon was also a Pinnacle like himself, he probably wouldn't have stood a chance against it in a physical brawl.
Its Physical Prowess had become an entire higher sub-tier in strength!
The 3-meter-tall creature had grown in height, and it now looked about 3.5 meters!
(Medium) had become (High).
Even its Physical Resistance had become Pinnacle. It could now barely stand equal against him.
Totem of Rage was indeed an amazing demonic trick.
If he could choose, Mark wanted that.
The ability to enhance all bodily functions by a Sub-Tier.
[Minotaur]
[Physique: 85/90 (High)]
[Mind: 60/60]
[Physical Resistance (Pinnacle)]
[Mental Resistance (Medium)]
[Mark]
[Physique: 100/100 (Pinnacle)]
[Mind: 100/100 (Pinnacle)]
[Physical Resistance (Pinnacle)]
[Mental Resistance (Pinnacle)]
Mark grimaced, and his wings straightened before he jumped out of the crater in the wall and took flight. Eyes as cold as ice, he began flying around the enemy.
"You are using your physical stamina to last more in your Totem of Rage mode, right?" Mark asked loudly. "How long can you last?"
He crackled as he looked down.
While the Totem of Rage demonic trick was turned on, the Minotaur had an incredibly strong physical body. And due to being a demon with a Physical Bloodline, its Physical Resistance was a level higher than its actual strength, too.
Its physique was High, resistance was Pinnacle.
Since Mark only had a Pinnacle Physique himself, he was bound to be incapable of killing the enemy with his physical powers alone, and he didn't have any other methods to kill it. If he brought Dona close, she'd probably die before she could land a blow.
He had no way of dealing with this demon, not until the Totem of Rage mode ended, at least.
Heart Input could make its Mindpower become empty, but that was of no use—the Demon was using its Physical Stamina to perform demonic tricks, not Mindpower.
Its demonic tricks were of the physical kind, after all.
Mark just floated around the Demon with a cold face, and the demon kept roaring in rage.
"ARGGH!"
Suddenly, a green lance of blood appeared in the Minotaur's hand out of nowhere, and with veins bulging, it threw the lance of blood directly at Mark.
Corrosive Blood Arrow!
Feeling his nape tingle, Mark flapped his wings and flew high into the skies and dodged it.
Thump. Thump.
His heart thumped in his chest.
"Ha..." He chuckled.
The lance was dodged with a long margin, but his heart still felt iced.
That had been a strong attack. He looked at the Demon silently and flew down to the ground some distance away from it, which successfully baited it once more to run towards him like a maddened bull.
Mark scoffed.
Indeed, when silent, Minotaur were clumsy, but when in rage, they were bulldozers.
Wings naturally tucked back into him, and Mark's fist met the powerful punch with a punch of his own, followed by another kick into the guts, and both of them slid back some steps.
The Minotaur was weaker. It just didn't get any injuries due to its Resistance.
"Come, monkey," Mark said.
Its fist whooshed through the air with a crimson glint around its hand, and Mark barely dodged it by tilting his head in time.
The Minotaur's horns lit up darkly, and Mark chuckled.
It was using its Sharp Horns demonic trick.
That was going to hurt, and he had a feeling that his Resistance alone couldn't block it. Corrosion seemed irritating.
"Not today!"
He jumped once from the ground and jumped twice by stepping on the Minotaur. Then, he was in the skies, looking at the demon mockingly.
"Arghh!" it screamed.
Once more, Mark was in the skies and he began to bait the demon just like that all over again. About half an hour later, the creature was panting with its hair standing on end, and Mark looked at it calmly.
Its physical stat was exhausted.
The 3.5-meter big creature shrunk down to its original 3-meter size, and the 4.5-meter tall Mark coldly flew down and slammed its face to the ground with his legs.
Green blood splashed around with just a kick.
The Totem of Rage had exhausted the creature's energy to resist.
Now, it no longer had the crazy Pinnacle Resistance, and Mark could finally hurt its body.
He took its left arm, twisted it, and tore it off.
He then repeated that with the right arm.
Just for safety, he kicked the creature's legs until its knees broke.
He then straightened himself and cracked his knuckles.
Mark couldn't help but chuckle.
He had once run away from a weaker Minotaur.
This was such an exhilarating feeling.
Dona walked out of the alley and came beside him.
"Dona, hold onto my hand on this side; we are going back to the lab."
With Dona hanging onto one side of him and dragging the Demon by its horns on his other hand, Mark took flight. Thankfully, his wings were incredibly strong, and he didn't have to worry about the weight.
Soon enough, he was heading for the laboratory where Yuri was.
Which ability of the Minotaur would he get?
He wondered.
