Chapter 102: The Duo
"Xiaoer, what are you doing here?"
"Eh, Father, I bought the food and money for…"
"Didn't I say not to come?" The old man harshly interrupted him, his face displaying a stern expression.
"Eh, but what will you eat then, father?"
"I can eat whatever I want, but why did you come back?" The old man's face turned cold.
"Why can't I come back to my own home, Old Man Yao?" Hearing this, Ji Hua retorted with a frown on his face.
"Sigh." The old man shook his head when he heard this, letting out a sigh.
"Why can't I come home? Can you tell me the real reason, Old Man Yao?" The boy's voice grew softer as he asked.
"It's because of those items you took. Can you tell me where you got those?"
"Eh, why?" The boy was stunned.
"Because we got in trouble because of those items. Now, the young master of the Lu family wants to know where we got them from. So, tell me, where did you get them?"
"I think I got those from…"
Suddenly, he was interrupted as they heard footsteps.
"Who could it be?" Old Yao whispered so quietly that the boy could barely hear him, his eyes reflecting nervousness as he stared at the door.
He looked at his son, and the son looked at his father, both nervous.
Knock! Knock!
The knocking on the wooden door of their thatched house sounded suddenly.
Old Yao started to sweat, his clothes becoming stained with his own perspiration.
The boy also felt nervous, a mixture of uncertainty filling him as he stared at the door.
The old man gulped down his saliva, mustering the courage to speak.
"Who is it?"
However, the knocking sound didn't stop.
Hearing this, Old Man Yao didn't even have the courage to speak; he remained silent.
"Father, why do you always speak like a scaredy-cat? You weren't like this when you were doing your scammy hawking." When Old Yao heard this, he wore a frown on his face.
"What do you know, kid? This is how we stir the fire in our kitchen. How dare you say that?" he couldn't help but retort, even though deep down, he knew the truth.
"Alright, alright," the kid said as he rubbed his ears.
"Old Yao, open the door."
Suddenly, Old Yao heard the cold voice, which made his eyes widen.
"Yes, young master," he hurriedly said as he went to open the door and did so as if his life depended on it.
"It really is the young master. If we did displease him, we two could be slaughtered," he thought to himself with terrified eyes, and his heartbeat started to increase while he sweated.
The moment he opened the door, he immediately bowed.
"Young master, why did you come to such a disgusting place? We two, father and son, were about to come to you." He just stood bowing to Lu Zhen as he remained silent. However, not hearing any response, he glanced up.
He couldn't find anyone there.
"Eh?"
Old Yao was dumbfounded.
"There is no one?" Old Yao was filled with question marks in his head.
"So you know the location, right?" Suddenly, he heard the cold voice of Lu Zhen behind his back, which made his back feel chilly.
"I know it, young master."
"Alright, then we will be going on a trip to that place, and if that place is really there, I am going to reward you." Lu Zhen said as he casually took out two gold biscuits and gave them to him.
The boy nodded his head with understanding as his eyes shined with the prospect of money!
"What is your name, by the way?"
"Xiao Yun," he replied respectfully.
"You are a smart kid, boy. Don't let your old man do something stupid."
"Yes, young master."
"Young mas..." Old Yao wanted to say something; however, when Lu Zhen suddenly turned around, he saw the cold death stare in his eyes.
"I thought you were a smart man. Looks like age really gets to people," Lu Zhen shook his head.
"This..." Old Yao was speechless and couldn't say anything more.
"Let's go now, Xiao Yun," Lu Zhen said as he walked away.
Xiao Yun quickly followed behind Lu Zhen like an obedient kid.
"Wait, you can't take my kid! What if..."
"Do you really think I can't kill you?" Lu Zhen's eyes turned cold as he looked back. His time was precious, and he couldn't waste it bickering with the old man. If it were any other young master in his place, they would have killed the old man and tortured the boy to reveal his location.
Nobody would care if a random old man and his child died, especially if the person who killed them was a high-position individual.
The cruelty of the world had made these things clear. Strength was what mattered the most!
So he was really speechless about how the old man could gather the determination to disturb Lu Zhen.
Old Yao hurriedly bowed with tears and snot on his face.
"Young master, can I also go with you?"
Lu Zhen was really speechless when he saw the old man. He wasn't taking his boy to a battlefield or something; why was the old man being so emotional?
"Yes, you can come," Lu Zhen said in an uncaring manner as he walked out of the house.
His nose was immediately assaulted by the foul smell of the alley they were currently in. Fortunately, Lu Zhen had already adapted to it.
"Father, why are you even coming?" Xiao Yun frowned and whispered.
"Kid, what do you know? You could risk your life because of this."
"And will it help if you tag along?" Xiao Yun retorted.
"What do you know, kid? I once practiced martial arts," Old Yao said as he hurriedly followed Lu Zhen, ignoring Xiao Yun's stare.
Xiao Yun could only watch the old man helplessly as he also hurriedly followed Lu Zhen.
