Chapter 101: Shadow Veil
Lu Zhen carefully felt the string and could approximately determine Lu Zhi's location.
"Hmm, this works," Lu Zhen thought as he tried to control Lu Zhi like a puppet, just as he had done previously. However, a small frown appeared on his face.
"So that's not possible, huh?" He stroked his chin in thought.
"Let's try this," he decided, reconnecting his connection with Lu Zhi.
"Can you hear me?"
"Yes, young master," Lu Zhi, who was walking around in the palace, answered, stunned by the unexpected communication with Lu Zhen.
"Hmm, I can communicate as well even over this long distance. Then how about this?" Lu Zhen thought as he lightly tugged on the string-like aura for a fraction of a second.
"Ah!"
"Looks like it does work," Lu Zhen nodded to himself as he carefully sensed Lu Zhi's condition.
"Why did that bastard do that?" Lu Zhi tightened his fist, but he wore a terrified expression.
"Young master…"
"I'm just testing things; I won't use it again," Lu Zhen reassured as he cut off the connection.
"Hmm, it can also drain the strength of the person and convert it into energy, huh…" Lu Zhen felt the slight drain of energy from Lu Zhi and the girl who was beside him. His body absorbed a small but steady amount of energy.
Since the drain was so subtle, even someone with a divine physique like Lu Zhen couldn't notice it, so there was no way the two of them could either. This discovery sparked countless ideas about how Lu Zhen could use this to his advantage.
"So, are you doing it or not?"
"But…" Since Li Nan had been trained from childhood to become a guard, her loyalty to the family was deeply ingrained in her. While she had reported to Lu Huang, the family's patriarch, it was to the Young Master, so she still held onto a false hope that she hadn't betrayed the family yet.
"Don't worry. I will become the patriarch of the family soon, so you don't have to worry about betraying the family. Just tell the old man what I want him to hear, understand?" Lu Zhen said as he casually flexed his mark.
Seeing the mark, her back turned cold and her face displayed a mixture of emotions. Her body started to sweat as felt fear from the bottom of her heart.
Li Nan obediently nodded her head.
"Good girl," Lu Zhen said as he patted her with a smile on his face.
"You can get out of the rope now."
"How did you know?" Li Nan looked at Lu Zhen with astonishment.
"There aren't many things that can trap a third-stage martial artist, and these ropes can, at most, trap a martial trainee. Since you were previously a little injured, you didn't make a move. But now you can easily make a move, but..." Lu Zhen paused as he looked at her.
"Yes, young master, I will follow you," Li Nan said as she effortlessly broke the rope and bowed to Lu Zhen.
Lu Zhen nodded his head in satisfaction.
"One more thing. How did you disappear previously?" Lu Zhen asked with a confused expression.
He had seen the same trick when the assassins attacked his carriage, and Yu Bai faced the assassin leader. However, he never knew how the trick to become seemingly invisible worked.
"Young master, this is a secret combat art of assassins, which is very common in the world. However, it has one major weakness: an expert can easily notice it by sensing, as it can only make you invisible to the naked eye. The other senses can still detect it, so it is useless against a true expert." Lu Zhen nodded in understanding when he heard this.
Indeed, since he had superhuman senses due to his constitution, he could sense Li Nan even with his eyes closed. Suddenly, he took out some brushes and paper and gave them to her.
"Write it down for me, the important points and how it works."
"Yes, young master," she nodded obediently as she immediately started to write.
Lu Zhen sat down, took the paste from his pouch, and began to cultivate while Li Nan wrote down lengthy details.
His qi had been strengthened to a whopping 3%, which was a lot, but he still wasn't satisfied with this speed.
He slowly visualised the tree, which glowed with a green hue as his qi was gradually becoming more condensed and refined. The mysterious energy from the paste directly accelerated the progress.
Time passed as Lu Zhen cultivated, and Li Nan wrote down every single detail meticulously.
Suddenly, Lu Zhen felt the moment of Li Nan and stopped his cultivation as he looked at her.
"Have you completed it?"
"Yes, young master." She handed him the papers.
"You can stay in the shadows for now," he said as Li Nan vanished like a shadow.
"Now, let's see the mystery here." Lu Zhen carefully read the words one by one. There were about only 6 pages, and the details were surprisingly simple, which surprised Lu Zhen.
Lu Zhen quickly scanned all the information and understood how the trick worked.
"This seems more like a parlour trick than a combat art," Lu Zhen chuckled. The name of this combat art was [Shadow Veil Technique].
His eyes turned golden as he wanted to see the system evaluation of it.
[Shadow Veil Technique]
[Grade: Half-Qi Item]
[Remarks: This combat art allows the martial artist to manipulate light rays and blend into the shadows, making them almost invisible to the naked eye.]
When he saw the appraisal, he nodded to himself. It pretty much confirmed what he had gathered from reading it.
"Hmm, so it's incomplete, huh?" Since Li Nan had written the technique on the spot, it was inevitable that some details would be left out. That was understandable.
"This might be useful to me," Lu Zhen thought. He stretched his body, preparing to practise the art.
"After that, I should visit the old man from the vendor shop from which i brought those items from."
