Chapter 124 118 Arrogant Mage
Hasan and his companions viciously slaughtered atop the city walls, while the moving infantry of the assault corps with whom they coordinated didn't bother tangling with such weak opponents. They seized the city gates at the first opportunity and closed them, while other Iridium Star soldiers on the walls did the same.
When the soldiers of Infia city realized that their opponents were overwhelmingly powerful, capable of flying and burrowing, and even immune to bullets, they immediately threw down their weapons and scattered, some even kneeling directly on the ground to beg for mercy.
As Hasan and the warriors of the Storm Wolf Tribe reveled in their slaughter, a bionic soldier forcibly pulled Hasan down to the ground, making him listen and stop the unnecessary killing of the surrendering Infia city defense soldiers.
For the tribesmen of the Southern Continent, the concept of no killing upon surrender was alien. However, Hasan and the others held some reverence for the soldiers of Iridium Star, considering they were also newly joined members of the "tribe," whose rules they had to follow.
Xiao Yu led about twenty marine corps members directly into the Governor's Mansion. The guards there, upon seeing Iridium Star Marine Corps members descending from the sky, screamed and threw away their weapons, with no one willing to engage the Iridium Star people in combat.
In reality, the soldiers of the Governor's Mansion were the Governor's own family militia. They strutted around daily, thinking they were of higher status and better treated than the city defense team, yet they rarely trained properly and lacked the courage, so they collapsed internally at the first sign of a major enemy.
The Governor of Infia was also dragged out by the Iridium Star people, apparently quite frightened. Infia had experienced wars since its founding – the colonial wars waged by Shangduohan against Belverin had revolved around this most important city of the Southern Continent for three long years. Natives had also launched multiple attacks here.
Yet, no army had ever breached Infia and stormed directly into the Governor's Mansion to drag out the Governor.
The Governor's name was Lasmo, who had been in charge of Infia for four years. During his tenure, business in Infia had developed rapidly, with rumors even suggesting that the King of Shangduohan intended to appoint him as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom upon his return.
This Governor was dragged before Xiao Yu, and despite his disheveled appearance, Lasmo still maintained his dignity, at least pretending quite well.
"I hope your side will follow the civilized rules and grant me the treatment due to a noble and official prisoner."
Xiao Yu really disliked anyone more arrogant than himself. He was a descendant of the Knight of Destiny, surrounded by sycophants wherever he went. His military career had also been smooth sailing until he encountered the Imperial Chancellor and had to keep his tail between his legs. Now this Shangduohan Governor dared to act superior, prompting Xiao Yu to laugh.
"Hang this idiot outside the Governor's Mansion."
Lasmo couldn't understand Xiao Yu's words, but the marine standing beside him grabbed him, looped some unknown material around his ankles, and tied it to the horizontal beam of the Governor's Mansion's gate, literally hanging Lasmo there.
"You can't do this! I am a noble of Shangduohan! A noble!"
Xiao Yu glanced disdainfully at the man and said, "The one who hung you up is also a noble!"
With the entrance of the Iridium Star people, the whole of Infia became chaotic. Bai Zhongqi had only brought a little over a hundred mobile infantry for the siege, as most of his manpower was currently in Su'ao on the Legendary Continent, building a new city.
Now, with Infia in turmoil, the regular army of Shangduohan, along with nobles and merchants' private armies and mercenaries, were all thrown into disarray.
The huge spacecraft and the flying "Heavenly Soldiers" instilled great fear in the local armed forces, who had no intentions of resisting and hurriedly packed their belongings, preparing to flee the city. Unfortunately, by then, the Iridium Star assault troops had already taken control of all of Infia's city gates.
Some armed groups attempted to storm the gates, but were quickly crushed by the terrifying firepower of the assault troops.
Even though the assault troops and the Marine Corps didn't bring much heavy firepower, apart from landing crafts and other vehicles, their electromagnetic rifles and individual laser cannons were deadly enough. It would not be an exaggeration to say that not even an armored battalion from the Lighthouse Country's Army on Earth could withstand them.
Xiao Yu didn't bother with the Governor's Mansion or the panicked citizens. He led his men directly to the residence of the Mage Advisor, Ousaisi.
The soldiers of Iridium Star didn't have the habit of knocking. They burst through the front door of Ousaisi's house and saw him and his student, Reeldzer, in the courtyard.
Ousaisi was somewhat surprised; his brow furrowed again, thinking that even if Infia were attacked, it shouldn't involve him. He expected that the attackers would come to his place afterwards, apologize profusely, offer compensation, and then sweet-talk him into having his useless student serve them.
Such situations were common in the Northern Continent, and Ousaisi naturally thought this was the norm.
Ousaisi stated authoritatively, "I am the Fire Element Mage and Mage Advisor of Infia, Ousaisi. You have trespassed into my residence—leave at once!"
The teacher's domineering declaration caused Reeldzer's eyelids to flutter in fear. He didn't believe that those wearing exquisitely crafted outfits, capable of flying through the skies and burrowing into the earth, could be from this world. And those not from this world would surely be unaware of the preferential treatment for Mages, let alone tolerate Ousaisi's rebuke.
Indeed, the intruders acted as if they hadn't heard (or understood) a single word, and marched forward, intent on seizing Ousaisi.
Angered, Ousaisi pulled out his staff and unleashed a Firewall Spell. Upon seeing this fire wall, Reeldzer admired his teacher, despite his harsh ways. His teacher was an exceptional Mage, mastering dozens of Fire Element spells. The Firewall Spell was especially potent, capable of altering the battlefield's terrain, creating favorable conditions for allied troops.
Mages who could cast the Firewall Spell were highly favored by generals.
Ousaisi, too, felt a bit pleased with himself, thinking, "Got a bit flustered and used the Firewall Spell. Perhaps I should have just launched a Fireball; burning them to death would have been better."
However, figures suddenly emerged from the fire wall. Several Marine Corps members passed through it as if it were nothing.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
One spoke in a language Ousaisi had never heard before, saying, "This thing is only six or seven hundred degrees; our battle armor can withstand over three thousand degrees with no issues."
Before Ousaisi could unleash another spell, the leading Marine Corps member raised his hand and fired an anesthetic dart, toppling the Fire Element Mage. Continue your saga on empire
Seeing this, Reeldzer immediately clasped his hands over his head and crouched down, being extremely compliant.
What do you think?
