Chapter 123 117 Capturing Infia (Part 3)
Yize, being escorted by a soldier of the Marine Corps, was cowering like a quail. He stretched out his hand fearfully towards the city ahead and said, "Your Majesty, that is Infia."
Bai Zhongqi looked at the city with the interest of a tourist. Though the people of Emerald Sea Star were at the end of the Feudal Era, their civilizational style was quite different from that of Earth. Infia had been established for forty years and possessed a very comprehensive defense system.
Unlike the defenses of European cities during the Feudal Era on Earth, the people of the Northern Continent wrapped their cities entirely within city walls, somewhat like ancient China. However, different from the architectural style of China, the most common shape for cities on the Northern Continent was that of a hexagram star. Bai Zhongqi could immediately see the advantages of such a design.
It was somewhat similar to the star fort (bastion fortress) developed in Europe during the age of the flintlock gun. Attack any side of the wall, and the defenders would be caught in crossfire from different sides; and the space utilization efficiency within the hexagram was higher than in a mere quadrilateral.
With over thirty thousand residents, plus the slave population from the tribes of the Southern Continent, the total population of Infia could exceed one hundred thousand, making it the largest city in the Southern Continent. Even in the Northern Continent, it was considered a major city. It was not only populous but also a booming trade center, housing the Southern Continent's largest slave market.
It was the prime city for other nations to buy slaves. Infia also boasted the largest port of the Southern Continent. Various products produced there were transported to Shangduohan, allowing it, despite its smaller territory and area compared to the Belverin Kingdom, to compete with Belverin as a powerful nation.
Yize had already started to worry about Infia. Although Bai Zhongqi had brought only a little over a hundred soldiers, their fearsomeness exceeded Yize's imagination. Any single one of these soldiers was stronger than the Prophet of the barbarians from the Southern Continent.
They even arrived in Infia by flying, something Yize had never imagined possible for anyone other than mages, to soar through the skies with the aid of something.
Yize now believed these people to be divine beings from beyond the heavens. Even though the people of the Northern Continent were atheists, Yize couldn't help but feel these individuals were deities beyond resistance.
The Hovercraft that Bai Zhongqi was on had already landed, but two armed landing craft were still hovering in the sky.
"Colonel Xiao, commence your operation. Although the enemy is weak, I want you to be careful and cautious. Once the Star Warriors emerge, prioritize capturing them," Bai Zhongqi ordered.
"Understood, My Majesty!" Xiao Yu was quite excited. Ever since Bai Zhongqi had come into power, he, as the Marine Commander, had been somewhat marginalized. Having finally obtained this opportunity, he wanted to perform well and earn Bai Zhongqi's trust.
For such a battle, the people from Iridium Star had not devised a complicated battle plan—indeed, there was no point in making one. The enemy was so weak that their strength could be disregarded, so Xiao Yu simply set a few guidelines. Read new adventures at empire
Firstly, several mobile infantry squads would directly air-drop onto the walls of Infia, eliminate the guards there, and take control of the city gates, sealing them.
Secondly, Xiao Yu planned to personally lead the Marine Corps in a surprise attack on the Governor's Mansion in the city and capture the Governor of Infia.
If they encountered any resisting Star Warriors during the process, they would use their mobility advantage and promptly capture them. Apprentices and junior Star Warriors, being physically weaker, could still be subdued with anesthesia drugs that were effective on ordinary people.
The two armed landing crafts did not employ optical invisibility and simply appeared brazenly above Infia.
In broad daylight, the Infians beheld two strange, massive ships the likes of which they had never seen before, and panic immediately ensued within the city.
Within a sumptuous mansion, a young mage, Reeldzer, who was so young that there were hardly any whiskers on his chin, barged in a panic into his teacher Ousaisi's laboratory.
"Teacher, come outside and look, there's something incredible in the sky!"
Ousaisi's brows furrowed. Although he didn't like this apprentice of his, it was rare to see him so flustered. Without a word, Ousaisi stepped out of his laboratory and beheld an astonishing scene.
A massive flying ship floated in the air, its metallic shell glinting with dazzling light. Immediately, several figures leapt from the gargantuan ship, and Ousaisi could clearly see they seemed able to adjust their own position, not falling naturally.
"My God, are these all Wind Element Mages?" Reeldzer exclaimed.
Ousaisi looked at his apprentice with disgust and said, "Idiot, Wind Element Magic floating isn't like this at all. What have you learned over these years, how to flip through books and how to wash flasks?"Nôv(el)B\\jnn
While he chided his student, Ousaisi knew that the city of Infia was facing a grave crisis. He had also never heard of anything like a flying castle, and judging by the flying figures descending from above, these people were definitely ill-intentioned.
"Teacher, what should we do?" Reeldzer asked in a panicked state.
Ousaisi flicked his sleeve, his eyebrows raised, and said, "What's there to fear? Even if Infia falls, we are Mages, they wouldn't dare do anything to us."
Reeldzer didn't believe what his teacher said. The other party seemed to be something beyond his comprehension, and Reeldzer felt they might be demons from another world. If they were from another world, would they follow the rules laid down by the Mage Tower of the Northern Continent?
Despite being disliked by his teacher for his habit of questioning teachings and his interest in mysterious and supernatural things, this didn't change Reeldzer's nature.
At the same time, Hasan, who had mastered how to use the training armor to adjust his posture in the air, had already crashed onto the city wall, creating a large crater. Normal soldiers of Iridium Star could adjust the force of their landing, but Hasan was new to it, not quite adept.
The intense shock didn't cause any discomfort to Hasan, though his companions felt a bit dizzy and swollen-headed.
In Hasan's hand was a weapon left behind by the Slave Hunting Team, a machete over a foot in length. Hasan wasn't given the weapons of Iridium Star, fearing friendly fire. Merely with the power and speed of the training armor, these tribal warriors could handily take on the group of guards on the wall.
Hasan threw a punch, his tremendous power hitting a guard square in the chest. The guard was sent flying, his internal organs shattered by Hasan's punch.
A few flustered guards fired several bullets; one hit Hasan, but he felt nothing at all. The flintlock gun's low-velocity projectile lacked power and was nothing but a tickle against the training armor.
The warriors of the Storm Wolf tribe discovered they were impervious to blades and gunfire and began to shout excitedly as they charged toward the panicked guards like tigers among sheep.
What do you think?
