CH.487 Adventuring tournament, Here we come

CH.487 Adventuring tournament, Here we come

With the new year celebrated, it was time for the adventuring tournament. And since it is taking place in the Hero’s country, I moved HomeBase that way. I couldn’t park HomeBase directly above the Hero’s country, because they do have that pesky detection barrier, so instead I parked some ways away. … only to realize I parked in practically the same spot in which a dimensional fissure had once been. The one from which a ursa major popped out.

Well, whatever. It is as good of a parking spot as any. It is close enough that even on foot, to get to Oroco city, it would only take about an hour. And that is for a regular, low level person. For a higher level person, it will take less time, especially if they run or jog.

And, you know, carriages are always an option.

But then came the problematic part. Mainly, who all will be going to the Hero’s country. We can’t just take everyone from HomeBase there, but we also can’t all commute every day.

Sadly, I will be doing so. I really hope I can get some sort of ‘flight license’ that will allow me to get through the barrier without the guards, just for the duration of the tournament. Will make everything so much easier. I can just fly with my own skills to the Hero’s country, and it won’t even take long. And since all of my fiancées can also fly, we can just all fly in together.

The Beast Summoners, aka. Einar, Eline and Unika will be staying in the Hero’s country. I’ll get them a room, or few if available, at a hotel or an inn.

Stina and her family also wanted to stay in the Hero’s country for the duration of the tournament, but as they weren’t taking part in any way, I wasn’t going to pay for them. But I naturally do give them a salary, and with almost nothing to spend that money on, despite them not having worked here for all that long, they had a decent amount of money, so they could afford a good stay at a nice hotel.

I lent them a carriage for the trip, but I’d be taking it back into Storage later. I also gave Stina a phone. Not a smartphone, just a regular one based on Morphtronic Celfon’s phone form.

It is a prototype, naturally, but from the little testing I’ve done, it does work. It does still have issues, such as needing HomeBase within 50 km of all phones for it to work, but I’m working on it, alright.

And they are perfect for this situation. HomeBase is just close enough that you can call me from anywhere within the Hero’s country, so if Stina needs to get in contact, she can. And since I’m the one programming the phones, all I really needed to was set up some quick selects for the calls. So by holding down the 2 button, the phone will call me.

There are also a few other calls the phone can make. Mainly both 112 and 911. Both of them send an emergency signal to HomeBase. One, 112, opens a call while at it, but 911 doesn’t. It only sends a ‘text’ and a location where you are.

And I used those numbers, because of course I did. 911 is the emergency number in the US, and Canada, while 112 is the emergency number in basically all of Europe, and some parts of Asia.

Also, the ‘text message’ isn’t actually a text message. I’m still working on that part. It is just a pre-programed signal type that will show up as an emergency message for the receiver.

But that is all my phones can do for now. In the future, I plan on adding a ton more features. I mean, ideally I want to make actual smartphones and a makeshift Internet, but first I need to expand the reach of the phones and all of that.

Getting a hotel room for the Card Beasts wasn’t that difficult, mainly because the adventurers’ guild already had one for them. Sadly only one, so they would have to share, but they didn’t mind, so I let it go.

Finding one for Stina … that took a bit more time. The city was basically full of people already, so they had to go to most of the hotels and inns in the city. They did end up finding a place at a high class hotel.

For me, I had a meeting with Wendy about the exhibition match. And I learned who my opponent was going to be. And it was going to be Wendy herself.

Honestly, that made me more than a bit nervous. Wendy is strong. She can 1v1 my Black Luster Soldier. And I can’t beat him when it comes to sword skills.

Then again, this isn’t a deathmatch, and this isn’t just swordsmanship. I can use all of my skills. … Well, I won’t be using Pack Opener, because that would be a bit cheaty. If I need to summon something, I’ll just call Himeśaila or Nir. But I’ll try to go without them.

She then informed me how the tournament itself would go. Basically, there would be a preliminary round first, which was starting on the fourth. Today was the second, by the way.

For that, the party would dive into the Castle Dungeon and retrieve a set of items from the dungeon. The fastest parties with the most items from the list would then enter into the actual tournament part.

Adventurers were also allowed to use whatever gear they wanted for the first part, as the equipment limits only came into consideration for the second part, which did annoy me a bit, because we didn’t make the Card Beasts anything new for the first part. We could have, had I known about that rule, but I didn’t, so they only got the new equipment for the actual tournament part.

Well, their weapons are pretty high tier, considering that they are powerful enough to go against S-rank monsters. I did design them with fissures in mind after all. Just … would have been nice to know.

The tournament itself starts on the tenth. That would give time for all the nobles that wanted to see the tournament to travel here. … Well, not all of them, but most of them could make it. Those living too far would have had to leave before the Goddess’ day to make it in time. Not everyone has a floating island or spaceships.

I then brought up the access pass, so I could go home every evening. Wendy told me they had a room prepared for me, but I just told her that I’d feel more comfortable sleeping in my own bed.

Sadly Wendy couldn’t just hand me a pass, she wasn’t a Queen after all. But she promised she’d get me one by the end of the day.

… and spoilers, she did carry through with that promise. Sadly that promise came with a small cost, as I had to let the airship mechanics look at one of my airships. … spaceships. Same difference.

So I visited the airship docks and summoned all of the different space fighters I have. Gradius, Victory Viper XX03, Falchion Beta, Blue Thunder T-45 and Lord British Space Fighter.

My personal favorite, and the one I use the most, if Victory Viper. Gradius is also up there, because it is the OG, but I prefer the Victory Viper.

But this was also the first time my girls saw all of the ships lined up like this, so I let them all pick one I’d customize for them. Sure Alice and Lua both had a custom Gradius, but I can always make them a new ship.

Alice decided to keep her Gradius, Lua asked for a Lord British Space Fighter. Cailie didn’t mind any of them, so I just customized a Blue Thunder T-45 for her, because Janina picked the Falchion Beta to be her ship. Even if she can’t summon one.

As for the airship mechanics, they completely ignored our talks, as they dove head first, literally, into my ships. They wanted to pull them apart, piece by piece, but I put my foot down, and told them that they could only look at what could be looked at without removing pieces.

My ships are still essentially alive. I won’t let these morons pull them apart while they are ‘living’. Sure it is AI life, but that is close enough to life for me to protect them from others. … but then again, the biggest threat to my monsters is me, because they never know when I decide to eat one of them.

Well, the machine-type monsters don’t need to worry about that. But I may ask them to come to a mega scanner, so I can see their internal mechanisms, so I can reverse engineer them. But that is basically just an MRI, so it doesn’t actually hurt.

After the mechanics were done with my small ships, they started to beg me to show them one of my big ships. I didn’t have a reason to not show them, other than ‘I don’t want to’, which is a bad reason, so I summoned out B.E.S. Covered Core.

I picked Covered Core, because out of all of my B.E.S. ships, it was actually the most simple. Big Core is also quite simple, but the exposed reactor makes it more complicated than Covered Core.

… Yeah. The B.E.S. engines. I know, kind of, how they work now. They are basically fusion-fission reactors. I know that makes no sense, since usually a reactor only does one of those things, but the B.E.S. engines use both. In theory I could make one, in theory, but holy god. I’d have to fuel it with void uranium and magicalized tritium.

… what? You don’t know what magicalized tritium is? Don’t worry, I didn’t either. It is basically normal tritium, and tritium is a hydrogen isotope with more neutrons than regular hydrogen. In magicalized tritium you just replace the neutrons with something I’ll call magictrons. They are basically neutrons, but made of mana.

Realizing that led me to a discovery spree about magical metals. Magical metals, be it void uranium or star titanium, are literally the same as the base metal, but some or all of the neutrons have been replaced with magictrons. Technically star titanium has stardust, but stardust is a type of magictron.

So yeah. Magic, how does it work? I really don’t know, it just does. It tries to make sense, but at the same time … it breaks physics.

Eventually the mechanics were done with my ships, which led them to beg for blueprints, which I did have, because of the scanner, but I wasn’t about to share them with them. That is HomeBase restricted information and I won’t share it unless you work for HomeBase. And even then, I’ll set a Mind Crush or Mind Wipe on you, which will remove all knowledge related to the spaceships from your mind if you betray HomeBase or try to leak out the information.

Before we left the city, I had one more thing I wanted to do. I ‘snuck’ into the Castle dungeon, so I could get a fully detailed map that I can hand to Unika.

With me being a founder of a Chaos God Dungeon, my Dungeon Founder skill can access a lot of the information about other dungeons, even if I don’t hack the core. Sure I can’t influence the dungeon, but still, getting the full map, item trade point details, monster concentrations and so on will be super useful.

That is when I learned an interesting thing. The Castle dungeon is a Chaos God Dungeon. Which honestly does make sense. The Castle dungeon used to be the castle of the demon lord. And what did the demon lord do? Well, he abused a Chaos God Dungeon.

So it does check out that his stronghold would have been a Chaos God Dungeon. I wonder how many people know that fact. And do they know how special Chaos God Dungeons really are. Or do they think Chaos God Dungeons are just slightly more powerful dungeons?

Well, whatever. I got all the data I could from the dungeon. I’ll check over it tomorrow, so I can give a map to Unika tomorrow.

I wish I could make an electronic map for them, but that won’t work. It would take more than the two days I have to make one for this place. Not my dungeon, so I can’t make one easily.

And I know you might say this is cheating, but you need to consider this. A lot of the adventuring parties that are participating are used to this dungeon. The Card Beasts are here for the first time, so having a detailed map is required for them to at least stand a chance.
