CH.460 Fusion Gate Tournament – part 3
CH.460 Fusion Gate Tournament – part 3
And so, the final match of my first Yugioh tournament has arrived. And honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better duo to be in the finals.
Elias, running the gauntlet with his Blue-Eyes deck, going against his half-sister Nevelle, who is running Master of Oz.
The two finalists are running the two strongest monsters available. And even outside of that, both of their decks are quite similar. Both run cards like Big Bang Shot and Dimension Fusion. And of course all the draw power cards both of them run.
But I don’t need to recap their decks. Instead, let’s get onto the duel.
“The final match of the Fusion Gate Tournament is about to begin. I shall now flip the coin to decide who will go first. Elias, please call heads or tails.” I announced before I flipped the coin.
“Heads.” Elias called.
I caught the coin from the air, placing it on the back of my hand before I revealed it.
“Tails!” I announced. “Nevelle. Please choose which of you will go first.”
“I will go first.” Nevelle decides.
Surprising. I actually expected her to go second.
“You may begin.” I then said, as I sat down on my seat right next to the table.
And so, I was in position to judge the finale, while the other competitors, as well as HomeBase personnel who had the time or were interested watched.
“... alright.” Nevelle said quietly. She looked at her opening hand before making her play. “I set a monster. Then I’ll play Double Summon to set another monster. I’ll also set a spell or trap face down.” Nevelle announced. “That will be my turn.”
Elias didn’t look all that impressed, but he also didn’t say anything. Instead, he just started his turn by drawing a card.
After pondering for just a moment, Elias began to make his play.
“I play Upstart Goblin. I draw a card, you get 1000 life points.” He began. “I’ll then play Graceful Charity.” Elias then drew three cards and discarded a Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Queen's Double. “I’ll then play Monster Reborn to bring back my Blue-Eyes White Dragon!” He called out. “And then I’ll normal summon Dragon Zombie.”
“Now battle. Blue-Eyes will destroy one of your face down monsters, while Dragon Zombie destroys the other.” Elias declared.
Nevelle didn’t stop either of the attacks, maybe because she couldn’t, or maybe because both of her set monsters were Sangan. Nevelle used their effects to add Mystic Horseman and Des Kangaroo to her hand.
“Of course you would have something like that.” Elias said. “Doesn’t matter. I’ll set two cards and end my turn.”
“Yes. It is called strategy. My turn. I draw.” Nevelle said. “I’ll start with my Graceful Charity, so I’ll draw three and then I’ll discard Mystic Horseman and Silent Doom. Then Pot of Greed, so I can draw two more cards.”
“I’ll then fusion summon. I banish Des Kangaroo and Big Koala from my hand to summon Master of Oz. But why stop at one when I can banish another Des Kangaroo and Big Koala to summon a second Master of Oz!” Nevelle said, as she brought out two massive fusions.
“Now battle. Master of Oz, attack Blue-Eyes White Dragon!” Nevelle declared an attack, but it didn’t go quite as planned, because Elias had a response.
“I activate my two Rush Recklessly!” Elias announced. “Both will boost my Blue-Eyes attack by 700 for the turn. So it will raise to 4400, which is more than your Master of Oz!”
On the holograms, the Blue-Eyes glowed bright white, before a massive beam of energy was released from its maw, annihilating one of the Master of Oz and inflicting 200 damage to Nevelle.
“Fine.” Nevelle said calmly, not seeming all that annoyed by the fact that one of her fusions just bit the dust. “My other Master of Oz will destroy your Dragon Zombie.”
This time, the attack went through just fine. Dragon Zombie was destroyed and Elias took 2600 damage.
“I'll end my turn.” Nevelle then announced.
“Good. Because it is my turn. I draw.” Elias started his turn. “And I’ll play Upstart Goblin to draw a card. I’ll follow that up with a Pot of Greed, drawing two more. I’ll then use Graceful Charity to draw three.” Elias checked over the cards he drew, before he picked what to discard. “I’ll discard The Snake Hair and Hibikime.”
“And now, all is in place. My ultimate monster shall rise. I fuse the Blue-Eyes White Dragon on my field with the two in my hand to fusion summon the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon!”
“And now, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, destroy her Master of Oz!” Elias attacked, but the attack didn’t get far, as Nevelle revealed her face down card.
“Sakuretsu Armor. Your attacking monster is destroyed.” She said with a smirk.
“... you may have saved your monster, but my Ultimate Dragon isn’t done.” Elias said. “Main Phase 2. I activate Re-Fusion. By paying 800 life points, my Ultimate Dragon returns!”
“I end my turn.”
“My turn. I draw.” Nevelle started her turn. “... I set a monster and change my Master of Oz to defense position. That is all.”
“Couldn’t get a good card, huh? Well, that is just how it is.” Elias trash talked a bit before drawing a card. “Too bad, because mine is quite good. I play Dimension Fusion. Now we both summon as many banished monsters as possible, so I’ll call forth my three Blue-Eyes White Dragons!”
“And I’ll summon two Big Koala and one Des Kangaroo.” Nevelle said, summoning her monsters in defense position.
“Battle. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon will destroy your Master of Oz. Then two of my Blue-Eyes will destroy your Big Koalas. And finally, my last Blue-Eyes will destroy your Des Kangaroo. My turn is over.”
With that move, Elias left only one face down monster onto Nevelle’s field.
“... my turn.” Nevelle said, sounding maybe just a bit afraid of all the dragons she has to take down. At least the card she drew doesn’t seem useless, as she quickly activated it.
“Graceful Charity. I draw three.” Nevelle did that and looked at her cards. “Then I discard Fusion Weapon and Battle Ox.”
“I’ll then play Pot of Greed, to draw two cards.” Nevelle continued. “I’ll then play Poison of the Old Man. I’ll inflict 800 damage to you with it.”
“I’ll then set one monster face down and one card face down. That is all.”
“Well, at least you are still fighting.” Elias said. “My turn. And I think I’ll also use Pot of Greed, so I can draw two more. Then I’ll play Shield Crush to destroy one of your face down monsters.”
Nevelle’s Witch of the Black Forest gets destroyed. Nevelle adds a Battle Ox from her deck to her hand.
“I’ll then equip Big Bang Shot to my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.”
“Battle. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon attacks your face down monster.”
Nevelle’s face down monster is another Witch of the Black Forest, so it gets destroyed and Nevelle took 3700 points of damage. She then searched her deck for a Sangan.
“Now my Blue-Eyes White Dragons attack you directly!” Elias declared, sure of his victory.
“No. I activate my Call of the Haunted. With it, I’m bringing back my Master of Oz in attack position.”
“Tsk. Fine. I’ll get you next turn.” Elias said.
“... maybe.” Nevelle admitted. “I draw. I’ll fuse together Battle Ox and Mystic Horseman to fusion summon Rabid Horseman. I’ll then equip him with Fusion Weapon, so he gains 1500 attack and defense points.”
“Which is just enough. Rabid Horseman, attack Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Master of Oz, attack another.” Nevelle declared.
Two attacks and two Blue-Eyes later, Elias was still in the game.
“Must have miscalculated.” He said. “I still have 100 life points left.”
“...” Nevelle didn’t respond at first, but after a moment, all she could say is: “I end my turn.”
“My turn. And I think I’ll start off by playing Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your Call of the Haunted. And with it goes your Master of Oz.”
“And now we battle. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon will destroy your Rabid Horseman. And Blue-Eyes White Dragon will attack you directly.”
Both attacks naturally went through, leaving Nevelle with nothing on her field and 1700 life points.
“My turn.” Nevelle said, still sounding just a bit afraid. But the card she drew may have given her a bit of hope, as she did get a tiny smile onto her lips. “I set a monster and set a spell or trap. That is all.”
“Well, at least we can put this duel to an end.” Elias said. “I draw. And I think I’ll play the Monster Reborn I just drew. With it, I’m summoning your Master of Oz to my field.”
As Elias did that, the small smile that was on Nevelle’s face disappeared.
“Now with your strongest monster on my side of the field, I’ll end this. Blue-Eyes White Dragon, destroy the face down monster. Master of Oz, finish her off.”
The two attacks went through, the card Nevelle could have searched not mattering in the end, and she lost the first duel of the match.
Between matches, as I was shuffling both of their decks, I naturally checked what card Nevelle set and it was a Mystical Space Typhoon. I think she wanted to use it to destroy Big Bang Shot or Re-Fusion, which would have banished Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but that didn’t come to be.
Still, had Elias not gotten Monster Reborn, Nevelle could have bought herself another turn.
“Nevelle. Since you lost the first duel, you will choose which one of you goes first for the second duel.” I reminded the Princess.
“... I’ll let my brother go first this time.” She answered.
“Then Elias shall start. Draw your opening hands and begin the duel.”
“Then I’ll start.” Elias said, after he looked over his opening hand. “I’ll discard Thunder Dragon, so that I can add two Thunder Dragons from my deck to my hand. I’ll then play Upstart Goblin to draw a card. Then I’ll fuse my two Thunder Dragons to fusion summon Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.”
“I set a monster face down, and I’ll also set one spell or trap. That is all.”
“Okay. Here I go. Draw.” Nevelle began her turn. After looking over her hand, she looked determined. “You know, I think your deck really could have used more variety in the spell and trap department. But then again, who am I to talk? I’ll start off with a Pot of Greed, so I’ll draw to cards. Then I’ll fuse together Battle Ox and Mystic Horseman to fusion summon Rabid Horseman. And I’ll equip Fusion Weapon to my monster.”
“Battle. Rabid Horseman will destroy your Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon.” Nevelle declared her attack, but judging by the look on her face, I think she expected Elias to use his face down to do something.
But he didn’t. The attack went through, Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon was destroyed and Elias took 700 damage.
“... I guess your face down wasn’t Rush Recklessly. Consider me surprised.” Nevelle admitted. “I’ll set a monster and one spell or trap and end my turn.”
“You are overthinking things. You assume I’ll always play the same. Not that it matters.” Elias said. “I draw. And I’ll start off with Pot of Greed, so I can draw two more. Then I’ll play Re-Fusion to bring back my Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon. But it won’t stay on the field for long because I’m tributing it and my face down Snake Hair, so that I can summon my Blue-Eyes White Dragon.”
“Now, Blue-Eyes, attack her face down monster.”
“No you won’t!” Nevelle interrupted. “I activate Sakuretsu Armor. Your Blue-Eyes is destroyed.”
“Temporarily maybe. But it won’t stay in my graveyard for long. Because my set card is Call of the Haunted, and I’m using it to bring back my Blue-Eyes White Dragon.” Elias announced. “Let’s try this again. Blue-Eyes, destroy her face down monster.”
This time, the attack went through, destroying Nevelle’s Sangan.
“Since Sangan was destroyed, I can add a monster with 1500 attack or less from my deck to my hand. And I’ll add Des Kangaroo.” Nevelle said.
“Go ahead. I’ll end my turn.” Elias said.
“... and this is why I said your deck needs more variety in spells and traps. You focus only on drawing cards and resurrecting monsters. My turn. I draw. And I think I’ll fuse the Des Kangaroo, which you so kindly provided for me, with my Big Koala, so that I can fusion summon Master of Oz.”
“Then I’ll play Monster Reborn. With it, I’m summoning your Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon to my side of the field. And now, we battle. Rabid Horseman, destroy his Blue-Eyes White Dragon.”
The attack when through, Elias’ dragon getting destroyed, leaving him with nothing on his field.
“Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, attack him directly.” Nevelle announced and as soon as the damage step was over, she declared her final attack. “Master of Oz, finish him.”
With that, the second came to an end. The situation is 1-1. One final duel will unearth the winner of the first Yugioh tournament this world has ever seen.
