Chapter 617: Visitors
Chapter 617: Visitors
Knock. knock.
In this very moment, I felt as if I would be pretty open to the idea of killing the bastard that dared to interrupt the moment between me and my now wife. Yet, doing something like that in the city of immortals would potentially bring a lot of troubles to my head, forcing my sudden eruption of hate and wrath back to where it came from.
"Hey, let's ignore it, what do you say?"
Reaching forward a bit to catch Eve's hands, I moved them up a bit while leaning forward.
Knock, knock.
Once again, the sound of someone smashing his fists against the wood of the doors of our room sounded like the war drum for me, once again momentarily releasing the dams in my soul that were supposed to hold my anger back.
"I don't think it will do us any good. If they are willing to disturb us now, I don't think they will give any fucking for doing that for a prolonged amount of time."
Smiling uneasily at me, Eve leaned forward herself, gracing me with a light peck on my lips, before turning sideways and standing up from the bed.
"Dear customer, we really need you to come out right now."
Now, this sentence made me realise that this wasn't just some kind of random annoyance approaching in the worst possible moment. Right now, there were only two possibilities. either it was the staff of the 'hotel' that we rented a room in, indicating that something big enough for them to disturb their customer had to happen, or those words were said by someone who was attempting to lure us out of the room, making the situation even more dangerous.
"What's is happening for you to disturb us? Give me a moment, I need to dress up."
Instead of following through with what I said myself, I simply stood guard against the doors. The moment when one would be dressing up would be the moment where he would be most vulnerable. With either my hands or legs bound by the partially worn cloth, for a slightest of the moments, my fighting ability would be greatly decreased. That's why, if the person that dared to bother me at this early hour had any ill intentions, this would be the moment to attack.
Yet, even after waiting for a while, nothing happened. Sensing my doubts, Eve quickly dressed up herself, before taking the burden of defending the entrance to the room while I quickly gathered the clothes of mine that were thrown all over the room.
"Okay, stay back. I will open the doors."
Maybe it was the topic of her potential pregnancy that nearly surfaced a moment ago, but Eve didn't protest with this clearly anty-feminist divide of work right now. Rather than that, she didn't allow herself any slack either, standing in en guarde position a few meters behind my back.
Noticing that my wife was ready, I pulled the doors open ready for any attack to come at me or rather a set of innumerable shields that I condensed into a single, thick layer of vibrating energy.
Yet, no hit was executed against me or Eve deeper in the room. Outside of the doors, a clearly anxious owner of the hotel stood, clearly unable to hold back his worries from taking over his mind.
"Respectable sir, I'm very sorry for this inconvenience, but there are some guests"
In the middle of the woman's sentence, a group of three people appeared from behind her back. Initially putting my guard up as soon as I noticed their presence, I quickly calmed myself down and hid any hints of potential hostility when I realised they came here in peace.
"It won't be necessary. We will introduce ourselves by ourselves."
Clearly dismissing the woman despite this place being her own belonging, the man that spoke first instantly proved how high his position had to be in this city from how instantly the woman backed off. In a sense, it made her look as if escaping from this place was her current utmost priority.
"Okay then. First off, we are sorry for disturbing you but if we were to allow you to come out by yourself, then you would have to face the wrath of the huge crowd that already gathered in front of this building."
Pointing his hand at the window, the spokesperson of the small group either wanted to prove his words to me or make me lower my guard by approaching the window. Sadly for him, I was unwilling to move an inch from the safety of the doorway that I could easily defend myself at just because of some words of his.
"Ah, right. I'm Julian, and those are Syrias and Ahrei. We are the leaders of the three major sects within the immortals' city."
Pointing his hand at himself and then at each of his two companions, the man properly introduced himself before looking intently at me.
"I'm Bart. A passing traveller, not interested in this city all that much,"
Given the relatively polite attitude of those people, I would have to be an idiot to misunderstand their intentions. Unless it was all an act aimed at making me lower my guard, then they could be here for one reason and one reason only.
"We came here in order to invite you to our sects. Just for the sake of avoiding any conflict between the three of us, we wanted to offer you the invitation to our sects simultaneously as to make sure your choice which one of our sects you will join to be fair and impartial."
Hearing the words of the man, I noticed something quite worrying. It wasn't as if they weren't willing to give me the choice. According to their words, the option of not joining any of their sects simply didn't exist at all!
"And what if I'm not interested in any of your organisations?"
Avoiding the use of the word 'sect' in a place where a lot of people were bound to hail from the earth, I looked at the trio in front of me, while backing off a single step. Throwing them off balance like that could result in some over-the-top reactions, so I had to make sure no harm would come to my wife if any of them decided to press forth with their agenda despite my lack of interest.
"Well, that's an option you can choose as well But tell me please, are you really that confident in warding off Katernari's clan once they learn that you are together with one of their bloodline?"
