The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 41 - Let Us Talk!

Chapter 41 - Let Us Talk!

When Jennifer's eyes opened, it was already morning. Slowly, she stretched her hand after such a long sleep. It was not very comfortable at first but later on, after drinking some water, her throat at least was somewhat wet which helped her to sleep peacefully.

Opening her eyes, Jenifer looked here and there in her direction to see the figure who was sleeping on the nearby couch. The same man who actually sent her down yesterday where... she was left with nothing in her hand, breaking down emotionally.

The day before yesterday, she did commit a mistake but was it necessary to lock her down in the basement and not give her anything to eat? There was no memory of what happened later on, how she arrived in her own bedroom but one thing was clear that something major happened.

Otherwise, this man won't have let her step out of the base room, where it was pitch dark. Her hands clutched the bedsheet beneath her more tightly on realizing that there was a fear growing up in her heart.

Javier was peacefully sleeping on the couch, which wasn't even fitting according to his size. His legs were almost stepping out of the entire couch and she can't even imagine why he even agreed to sleep there in such a small space.

'But why is he here? Not in his own room?' She was getting puzzled by this thought. Looking around more specifically, she saw the medicines on the side table near the lamp. There was a jug filled with water and a glass beside it.

Without disturbing Javier, she decided to have water on her own. Using her hand, Jennifer was going to take the jug in her hand, and pour the water into the glass but unfortunately, the balance of her hand slipped and the Glass fell on the ground with a THUD!

Shock and surprise were written on her face, and her eyes flew towards Javier who was now awake due to the noise. "I'...M sorry..I didn't wish to..I was only.." her words stumbled too much without making sense to hear out.

She gulped the saliva down her throat in fear that he would just now revolt against everything. Lowering her head, in guilt, Jennifer waited to hear some bad punishment through his mind but no, nothing came. She kept on waiting, but he simply stood on his legs and brought another glass from the kitchen, and poured the water in the glass.

"Here, have it." He passed it to Jennifer who gulped the water in one go. Seeing her thirsty, he once again asked, "Do you need more?" she was afraid to ask further but her throat was dry.

At last, she timidly nodded her head and he gave her more water to drink. "Do not get down the bed. I will clean the broken pieces of the glass first."

His voice didn't contain any fury as she believed and thought. Instead, it was warm and soft, totally opposite to what she earlier thought from his side.

The change was confusing her. Neither did he scold her nor made her feel guilty. The anger she saw last day vanished and she can see stress down on his forehead. 'What happened to me exactly which made him change so much in nature?'

Her curiosity grew more and more when she saw him clean her room and the house, in the morning. She wasn't allowed to get down from the bed and to take proper rest, except going to the bathroom. Everything was served to her in her room, more specifically on her bed where she quietly ate without revolting.

With the coast and the proper silence, it was already evening when Javier came to her room to give medicines. Biting her lips, Jennifer wasn't able not to hold herself from asking him questions.

"Why are you being so kind to me now? You never listened to what I earlier had to say." Jennifer bites her tongue on being rude to him, despite being guilty of what she earlier did.

Javier kept a straight face and handed over the medicine which she was required to take with a glass of water. "You fell unconscious last night due to the cold temperature and an empty stomach. Y..Your face was really pale.."

His words stumbled in between. Was he afraid? No, how can he one because he is a Johnson, Just like Smith, they don't have any heart? But deep down, it was hard to accept.

"So, my health was not something that should concern you, right?" Jennifer raised her eyebrows because the explanation he gave wasn't fitting with his body language. She can clearly see the worried gaze in his eyes which he kept on passing in her direction.

"It shouldn't concern me yet I have to take care of you no matter what happens and here we are." A short reply from his side didn't extinguish the curiosity that she was currently feeling.

"Javier..." she called his name, "You are hiding something from me. What is it?"

Jennifer can see in his eyes that he isn't being honest with her. She doesn't know how it was possible for her to know about it, after all, they aren't that close as well. Yet, she can feel her heart hammering against her chest.

"W..What can I hide from you? You don't know many things already, so what can I do more to tell you?" His words confused her more.

"Does that mean, something..big has happened just now and you aren't telling me about it?" she asked carefully, noting down his expressions and the change in his body language with her words.

Moreover, Jennifer's instincts kept on telling her that things weren't as simple. They were twisted and tangled, and maybe her actions have resulted in something really big...

Javier sat on the couch, with his hands once rifling through his hair. Those deep eyes were one again back when he said, "Let us talk, Jennifer. This is urgent."
