Chapter 100: The Elites in Action

Chapter 100: The Elites in Action

Everything began just as Quinn expected. Explosions came one after the other, with enough force to make the ground beneath them shake. The villagers all went back to their homes with the exception of a few who wanted to help out. Quinn doesn't know how that'll work out but he allowed them to stay nevertheless.

"My plan is perfect after all." Quinn said in his mind.

"They're hit! I see a lot of wounded soldiers!" Amare reported, using her skill [All Seeing Eyes] in order to get a clear view of the enemies.

"Mages and Archers!" Quinn ordered, making a barrage of long-range attacks follow. Before leaving the defensive barrier, magical circles awaited these skill shots. These are made by their enhancer Zera and, as they passed through, the number of projectiles multiplied threefold.

They continued releasing low level skill shots with the intention of disrupting the enemies and prolonging their confusion. Not only this but, as they tried to step forward, they are met by another set of traps which made deadly spikes come up from the ground. These spikes had a single second of delay before shooting up even higher, creating a wall of iron spikes which the enemies have to deal with first.

"Oh? Not bad kids." The shadowy figure said.

"Keep them busy while I deal with some stuff first." He continued, as if his intentions are integrated with the plans of the elites. Then, he vanished through his own shadow.

As was mentioned, Quinn has no intentions of letting the enemies fight back. With the number of surprises, they presented, the enemies would have a hard time figuring a way out of their predicament. But Quinn didn't want to take any chances and, this is where Kaguya comes in.

Through a portal created by their mage Merlin, Kaguya got transported instantly to an open field in the middle of the enemies and the farm. Her eyes turned an abyss black and, dark mana began flowing out of her as she said:

"Oblivion."

The skill began with a small crack which appeared on the sky, an image which only lasted for a split second. This small gap of darkness grew larger and larger into a spiraling mass of darkness that covered the sky above. All those beneath began getting sucked in by its sheer force.

Although Oblivion is strong, the range of casting is not that far. Hence, they needed to set everything up and ensure safety before they sent Kaguya out. This came as a success and Kaguya retreated immediately, leaving the spiraling mass do its work of devouring the enemies.

As expected, some of them tried to escape and this is where the extra barriers come into play. Quinn ordered Vostok and his fellow vanguards to activate the barriers, an order they willingly followed. The enemies met the end of the line earlier than they expected.

Some of them tried to use skill shots in order to destroy the invisible layer of defense hindering them. [Oblivion] cancelled these out, sucking up even the mana released by the enemies. Of course, just backing away is also an option but, even at their back, shields have been deployed to present retreat.

"All the areas are now secured." Vostok updated, making Quinn have a wide grin on his face. He thought that the enemies would prove to be much more of a difficulty than this but, with how things are going, Quinn believes that he has set his standards and expectations too high.

"Do it." He ordered Zilg who still has stacks of explosive traps waiting on the land where the enemies are stepping on. The human gladly took this offer and, detonated more explosives.

For a few seconds, the earth seemed to come to life. With the earth below them getting torn apart, the enemies had no stable footing to rely on. Hence, more of them got sucked up by the skill. This came just in time because, Kaguya's skill just ended, with the dark mass of the void thinning out bit by bit until, it disappeared entirely.

"That makes ten seconds." Quinn said, executing every part of the plan perfectly. All the other members of the elites already know how capable he is but, actually seeing how his plan effectively made use of all the skills present amazed them even more.

Their leader is already pretty confident that they won. He ordered Amare to take a look at the situation in order to make sure. But even before their female scout got a good look of the area, a dak violet mist covered the whole area which stopped just outside the barrier.

"Clear the mist quickly!" Quinn ordered the mages who did just that, they fired two wind tornadoes outside the barrier. The wind pulled all the mist towards it. Yet this wasn't quick enough as, enemy units began shooting up from the covered area.

"They completely avoided the mines." Quinn said, thinking that flying units are the only ones which are able to pass through. This isn't the end of their worries as, when he looked back down, the tornadoes have already vanished and the thick mist still surrounded the area.

"Amare use analyze on that thing." Quinn ordered.

"On it!" The female responded. With their vision being completely disrupted, the humans have no choice but to focus on defenses and targeting the enemies which they could see. Quinn thus ordered the strengthening of the barriers and on the enhancement of all projectile type skills.

"Kaguya how much of your mana is restored?" He continued.

"Not enough to last five seconds." Kaguya responded, sitting on the ground as she collected dark mana from the surroundings. Quinn bit his lips because he knew the risk of doing this. The goddess Nisha advised against this because dark mana isn't exactly the purest of substances. Without being properly filtered, it may cause the corruption of any mortal. But the situation demanded this.

"Mirio and Jake we may be up soon. Get ready." He said, as the seconds progressed. Bit by bit, the flying enemies did their numbers against the barrier. But, with most of the efforts focused on defenses, they are able to endure.

Then, with Kaguya signaling her charging completed, she stood on the edge of the barrier, releasing [Oblivion] in the middle of the mist. Unlike the tornadoes, Kaguya's skill did the trick, sucking up the mist which gave them an unexpected surprise.

On the outer edge of the barrier are the two generals touching it. The Elites weren't even able to respond anymore as the generals created large magic circles destroying all layers of the barrier without breaking a sweat.

This is all it took for Kaguya to lose concentration and release [Oblivion]. With a bit of the mist still remaining, they couldn't rebelieve what they sawmore soldiers marched behind the generals. With everything happening, Quinn couldn't help but smile.

He snapped his fingers making the two magicians work together into making a combined S Class skill. It is something which they have been preparing from the very moment that Quinn decided to protect the town.

These mages continued placing mana into the earth and, now that they released it, a hundred earth golems joined their ranks. Adding to these are the flying creatures created by their summoner. Then, war broke out.

All the soldiers of the enemies marched recklessly. Answering why they weren't destroyed by the landmines, Amare updated Quinn that the mist is actually a magic jamming spell. Through it, all the traps set by Zilg were rendered useless. Furthermore, those walking within the mist will seem as if they are simply walking on air, hence not making any sort of sound. And not only this, it served as a means to cloud their vision, enough for the forces to reach them.

"Tricky bastards." Jake said, watching the fight unfold.

The three vanguards protected as much as they can while the other two focused on their respective healers. Summons distracted the soldiers, buying enough time for an elite to step in and deal the finishing blow. The fight looks to be evenly matched but, the elites actually have the upper hand as the enemies couldn't progress any further. Zilg also activated a gravitational trap placed within the barrier. This made it harder for the other forces to act freely while the golems and summons still moved at their normal speed.

"I thought Iron's dying words were a bluff. Yet here I am proven otherwise." The demon said, bringing out his greatsword which has the same height as Quinn. A lot of summons tried attacking him but, with a single swing of his blade, they all got destroyed. Nevermind the gravitational trap, the demon general moved as if the spell does not affect him at all.

"This'll be worth all the hassle. Too bad the other two missed on all the fun." The beastwoman continued, bringing out twin daggers which had a weird effect. She could teleport to wherever the daggers are placed and, every single strike she did is strong enough to kill one golem summon.

Facing them are the warriors of the elites. Quinn, Jake, and Mirio. They didn't wait for the two generals to escape their sight and, immediately went to their targets. Quinn ordered the enhancer to boost their attributes and, this is done immediately at the cost of depleting most of their enhancer's mana.

"Mind if I borrow your skill Mirio?" Quinn asked, exchanging stares with the demon general.

"Since when were you the asking type?" Mirio replied, approving of Quinn's request.

It hasn't been mentioned yet but Quinn's S Rank skill is an oddball for his job class of [Champion]. Quinn has the ability to imitate all S rank skills owned by those marked as his teammates and, although the output is a bit weakened, it is still a useful skill especially because Quinn could swap between S Class skills.

And not only this, his role gives him the exclusive skill called duel. It disallows any interference from the outside until the [Champion] Quinn, is finished fighting with a target. The class exclusive skill can only be used once per day and, it boosts Quinn's attributes and skills twofold while it decreases the enemy's overall power by half.

"Are you worth my time boy?" The general asked Quinn which is answered by the use of Curio's [Flash Rush] and, followed by Jake's [Piercing Thrust]. The general, shocked from the sudden burst of speed, had no time to react properly. Thus, the side of his armor got destroyed, making the general bleed before backing away.

"Worthy? Please. You don't even deserve to breathe the same air as me."
