Chapter 715 - 715 One and a half days remaining
715 One and a half days remaining
Awa nodded after hearing the last part. She believed her mighty clan of Dullahan warriors could be seen as amassing a private army.
Regardless of the last part and how the Dullahans might be able to live in the city, Awa felt terrible when she thought about the Cefeyes staying out in the wild surrounded by unknown dangers.
Awa was surprised to feel like this. She had never considered caring about the Cefeye race because she knew them as hostile creatures. Both races had a few small skirmishes after setting up a village, with the Cefeye suffering injuries and deaths while the Dullahans suffered small injuries.
Awa looked at the shelter. It didn’t take a long time to comprehend why she felt this way. After the female Cefeye Awa, later named Cefy, tried to save Awa’s life, she felt closer to the Cefeye race.
“Is there a way to at least help the Cefeyes? The female Cefeye you saw me carrying inside the building saved my life.”
“Huh?” Both Karta and Hibiscus became interested.
“When I was gravely injured, Vincent said she did something to try to save my life...”
“Gravely injured? How did you recover so splendidly?” Hibiscus asked promptly, interrupting Awa.
*Gasp* ‘What should I say? I can not tell them Vincent was the one who saved my life because he has god-like abilities. Cefy’s help wasn’t enough.’ Awa pondered while showing nervousness.
.....
“Hibiscus. You were too involved in healing the Dullahan in critical condition to see Lucas healing this girl.” *Sigh* Karta gently shook her head. “You love to forget your surroundings while healing someone.”
“That is not... not very true, Karta. ” Hibiscus responded while acting unhappy to hear the truth.
“V-Vincent used a healing scroll and gave me a lot of options. Yes. That is how I recovered.”
Karta and Hibiscus could smell Awa’s lie, even if she was a mile away. They could tell Awa was trying to cover or manipulate the truth.
“Oh, really?” Karta sarcastically asked.
*Gasp* ‘These humans are more skilled than I thought. How can they doubt my words? My acting should be more than adequate... or did the previous clan chieftain trick me?’ Awa started doubting her past. She was worried what the clan chieftain taught her was subpar.
Awa gently shook her head. ‘I will do as the books written by the past clan chieftain taught me. I have to tell them the truth since they are people who know Vincent.’
After Awa finally decided on what to do next, she started to explain how she and Vincent had met the female Cefeye.
Awa explained how while Vincent was looking for the items to heal her wound, the female Cefeye plucked one of her hair needles and used it to link her vitality with Awa and help with the recovery process.
“Our lives are linked, Vincent told us. The female Cefeye can not die unless I die, or something like that. I could also understand what she said before she fainted for some strange reason too.”
After Awa finished speaking, she could see Karta express a puzzled frown and Hibiscus express great interest in Awa’s story.
“Is there something wrong with what I said?” Awa asked with a perplexed expression. She hoped they would not ask more questions about Vincent.
“How can a Cefeye race have an omnipotent skill we have never heard about? Before that, how do you know both of you have some special kind of link with one another?” Hibiscus questions with a gaze glowing with curiosity.
“Vincent can see the status details of people and items like Marquis Darwin Griffinheart. ” Karta answered.
“You are lying, right? How can a non-mage class person be able to possess a mage’s bloodline ability?”
“That’s how it is, Hibiscus. Vincent can do that, even if he can or can not believe it. He used it on me, and I saw him staring at me afterward.” Karta chuckled slyly. “Hehe. I had a fun time teasing him.”
“I want to examine Baron Vincent Lionheart. ” Hibiscus said while moving her head to Vincent, Mimi, Plow, and Lucas.
*Gasp* ‘Examine Vincent? I can not let her do that! I can not let Vincent’s secret be revealed to these humans. No one can know Vincent can cause Ragnarok. ‘ Awa thought nervously.
An idea flashed in her mind. She raised her hand and said, “Vincent said I got this ability from Cefy.”
“Got an...” Both Karta and Hibiscus said before what they saw happening in front of their eyes astonished them
Karta and Hibiscus saw a black hair extend from Awa’s hand. The thread-like hair dangled as if she had plucked out one of her hairs.
“This is the ability I got. Do you think it is any good?” Awa said while blushing. The attention of the two women she barely knew was making her nervous and embarrassed.
“That’s all?” Karta questioned.
Awa nodded.
Karta and Hibiscus looked at each other. They looked back at Awa and congratulated her with an obviously fake smile, “Good for you.” Both told her sarcastically.
“Ahem.” Hibiscus took a step back. “I need to check on the healing process the two under me have reached. I will swap with them and give them a brief break.”
“Can you please check the injuries of the Cefeyes? Can you also check the condition of Cefy? Maybe she will wake up.” Awa requested.
“The two healers under me, and I will do that after their break then.” Hibiscus glanced at Karta and added, “It is not like this is the first time we need to spend a sleepless night treating the injured.”
“...” Karta chose not to comment.
Hibiscus had a lot of work to do during the last emergency caused by the ants. She had to lead all the soldiers in the healer profession.
Additionally, Hibiscus had to lead a couple of healers the nobles lent to the kingdom. It wasn’t for free. The noble families took the opportunity to increase their reputation.
Karta saw Hibiscus leave. She placed her arm over Awa’s shoulder and told her, “How about you and me have a quick girl talk?”
Awa saw Karta smiling at her. However, she could perceive the quick girl talk was going to be a lot of questioning involved.
“S-sure.” Awa anxiously responded. She hoped none of them would be about Vincent and his secret.
‘I hope Levos, Lenol, and Lexti will not speak about what they saw. I hope they will not mention watching Vincent die, revive, die, revive, and later go up in the sky to cause Ragnarok.’ Awa hoped in her heart while secretly glancing at the three brave Dullahans who stayed with them during the fight against the colossal undead bear.
*Day 186 – 10 December – Friday – Morning*
The next day arrived and the sun had yet to make an appearance. A woman’s hand opened the door flap of a textile tent.
*Yawn* “Ester told me five hours of sleep should be enough. Humph! I am not sleepy. I can sleep for.” *Yawn* “Less if I want to.”
*Sigh* “Sure, sure. I can not hear you yawning.”
“Hehe. I also heard a yawn. But maybe Ester and I are hearing the soldiers yawn.”
Lupa turned around. Her tail wagged, and a smile appeared on her face.
“I knew sister Lilith could hear better than sister Ester.” She said before looking at Ester and poking her tongue at Ester.
A royal mage in charge of their safety approached the tent.
“The time we gave you is up. Please exit the tent, as we need the soldiers to pack everything up and depart promptly.” He said in an authoritative tone.
Lupa exited the tent. “Hey, human. Did you hear anything about my mate?” She asked while wagging her tail. She was hopeful and excited at the same time to hear good news.
“Your mate? You married a noble and became a noble, but I, a Viscount, should not be addressed as hey human. If it wasn’t for Duchess Karta’s order...”
Ester and Lilith exited the tent in a hurry. Ester gabbed Lupa’s head and forced her to bow her head. On the other hand, Lilith apologized for the rude behavior Lupa displayed.
*Tsk* “I will overlook this for today. I hope you will learn to respect others before you speak.” The royal mage said before he left.
“Humph!” Lupa crossed her arms. “I want to kick his ass... Ouch!”
Ester pulled Lupa’s ear like normal. “They are here to protect us because Duchess Karta was kind enough to leave a mage for the five of us.” She told her.
“Iris. Jun Ye Rim. Are you ready?” Lilith asked.
“Comming!” Iris wore a handbag with herbs and left the tent.
Jun Ye Rim left the tent without saying a word. She stopped in front of them, crossed her arms, and said, “I wanted to leave the tent because it felt too stuffy for my tastes.”
Ester, Lilith, and Iris giggled at Jun Ye Rim’s tsundere personality. They nodded as if they agreed with Jun Ye Rim, even if they had seen her enjoying the warmth of the tent because of overcrowding.
A few minutes later, the low-ranking soldiers packing everything, the royal soldiers acting as guards in case of an emergency, the low-ranked healers, and the royal mages leading the expedition to the reported location all glanced at the same place numerous times.
The view of five women happily enjoying a sandwich over a chat as if they were having a picnic caught their attention. Furthermore, acting as if they were in the safest place in the world also caught their attention.
