Qiao Xuan graciously bowed her head and flashed a warm smile. “I appreciate your concern, Fourth Princess Consort; I am perfectly well.”

The Fourth Princess Consort, relieved to hear this, reprimanded Secondary Concubine Shi and instructed one of the maids to step forward. She then turned back to Qiao Xuan, her smile unyielding. “Since your personal maid is not present, it would be inconvenient for you. Xiang Rui, you may accompany Madame Shao and attend to her needs. Madame Shao, please accept her assistance. There is no need to decline; allow Xiang Rui to serve you.”

With a respectful demeanor, Xiang Rui responded in a hushed tone, offering a polite bow to Qiao Xuan before discreetly positioning herself behind her mistress.

Feeling obliged by the circumstances, Qiao Xuan returned Xiang Rui’s courtesy with a gracious smile.

The Fourth Princess Consort beamed and extended an invitation to all present to enjoy the blooming flowers. While some of these peonies were of a rare and superior quality, they lacked the visual charm one might expect. Nonetheless, everyone smiled in appreciation.

Qiao Xuan couldn’t help but spot a few of these exceptional peonies and yearned to acquire one to transplant into her own unique space.

Yet, the garden was teeming with guests, making it impossible to act on her impulse. The thought of someone witnessing her actions and demanding an explanation deterred her from taking any such liberties.

In reality, since arriving in the capital, she had already amassed a collection of extraordinary flowers in her private domain.

Xiang Rui remained steadfast at Qiao Xuan’s side, providing company and engaging in a delightful conversation about the various flowers in the garden. Qiao Xuan, unwilling to vent her frustrations on a mere maid, found herself genuinely captivated by the conversation, especially considering her profound interest in flora and her extraordinary abilities.

They continued to exchange pleasantries with Xiang Rui, immersing themselves in the world of blossoms and botany.

After a while, a housekeeper approached them, wearing a reassuring smile. She relayed the news that Lixia had suffered only minor injuries, exhibiting redness and swelling on her front, with some skin peeling. Lixia had already received medical attention and was now being treated with ointment. A full recovery was expected within a few days, with no lasting scars to worry about.

However, it would be preferable if she could remain in her quarters and avoid this place altogether.

Qiao Xuan furrowed her brow and gave a solemn nod.

She was determined not to allow Lixia to be scarred. Even if the doctor had mentioned the possibility of scarring, Qiao Xuan was resolute in her decision to prevent it from happening.

Fortunately, Lixia’s condition seemed to be improving, and she was not of great importance in the grand scheme of things. In the grand hierarchy, Lixia was just a maid, and there was little more that could be done to address the incident.

Xiang Rui continued to attend to Qiao Xuan’s needs.

Following their meal, they gathered in the hall for tea and lively conversation, discussing the latest fashion trends, accessories, cosmetics, and rouge popular in the capital.

As the time to depart approached, Princess Consort was the first to take her leave, and those engaged in conversation rose to bid her farewell.

Qiao Xuan accompanied Princess Consort, and as the princess departed, she followed suit.

Lixia had also been brought along.

The two exchanged a glance, and Lixia offered a reassuring smile, assuring Qiao Xuan that everything was fine. Qiao Xuan acknowledged her with a subtle nod.

The Fourth Princess Consort wore a pleasant smile and turned her attention to Qiao Xuan. “Madame Shao, what are your impressions of Xiang Rui? I hope you did not feel inconvenienced.”

Qiao Xuan replied graciously, “Fourth Princess Consort, you jest. Miss Xiang Rui is remarkably well-mannered and attentive. It is evident she hails from the Prince’s mansion; she is truly exceptional.”

“In your case, Madame Shao, it seems destiny has played its hand, and I am inclined to bestow Xiang Rui upon you. Xiang Rui, please serve Madame Shao diligently, and ensure you do not bring any disgrace upon me or the Fourth Prince’s mansion, understood?”

The unexpected announcement left everyone in astonishment, including Qiao Xuan herself.

Xiang Rui nodded in acknowledgment and offered a respectful kowtow to the Fourth Princess Consort. She then stood and positioned herself behind Qiao Xuan, as if she were now exclusively in her service.
