Chapter 304 - Split In Halves
Everything that Colt had built so far would be eating dust if he doesn't do something soon about the predicament he was in.
But even so it did raise questions. Why would Colt want to give the group a fake leverage over himself? Such a question would be asked by many if his thoughts were to be exposed.
'I want to know if I can trust him or not…'
'If I give him leverage. Would he use it against me?'
'How would he use it? Would he use it to bend my will and control me and stick to be plan and be loyal to their cause or try to trick me into their traps to get what they want?'
That was a question that could be only answered in such a manner. It was only by giving them a fake leverage that in reality had no chance of affecting Colt, that he would be able to figure out how ethical these people are.
In the world of hell good or bad never exist. Only the question of ethical or not ethical exists.
It doesn't matter if someone is a drug dealer. No one would judge him to be bad. All it matters is that does the dealer deliver the drugs after taking the money? Or does he run away with the money?
A person with ethics would never run away with the money. While the later would always do. The former would be trusted and would be able to expand his business while the later would be loathed.
The only reason the ninjas were able to stick out so long despite their uncanny nature was exactly because of their ethics. For them the client was supreme.
And Colt had to figure out exactly this very thing. What kind of organization was it? Does it stick to ethics and rules? If not, then Colt would have to back off from the deal. He cannot let his reputation be pummeled even further into mud than it already was.
'Klautz is but an excuse.'
*Sigh*
Colt's left hand traveled into the drawers as he pulled out a frame of unknown origin. The glass covering made it look glossy under the sunlight but despite that the colors of the photograph inside couldn't be hidden.
Colt's fingers rubbed against the same frame.
"You always say that I mess things up. And I always argue it to be a lie." Colt continued, "But today, I can't help but agree. But don't worry, I will fix thing up even before it can affect you in any way."

"Something seems wrong… but I can't figure out what it is?" Klautz lips twisted into a curl.
Klautz held onto his chin as his eyes traveled to the group of newbies that was assigned to him just today.
It was all going fine and well on the first and second day. Even after preparing the troops under his command for the upcoming missions that he was supposed to accomplish with them, Klautz was able to find quite a fit of time for himself to train and further his advancement in attributes.
How was that possible? With the help of resources of course. And Klautz mind was resilient enough to take the mental burden that came along with it.
"Shizu is paying me for training this group so I can't really complain about the newbies assigned to me but this setup seems odd for some reason. Is there really something unusual or is it my delusion?"
It was on the third day, that Shizu had suddenly arrived in front of him asking him to split the group into two halves with her training one of them. Surprisingly, Klautz even got a raise for training a lesser number of troops so he couldn't help but agree with her.
"I was right. She was certainly being suspicious. Who gives more pay for less work?"
But since Klautz was but the acting leader, he couldn't help but agree with the girl. There was nothing that he could do, at least not under the watch of the mercenaries who could tear him in half at any moment. They didn't care about the earthlings but the words of the young masters and mistresses held weight.
But now that the set of soldiers had arrived there was something distinctive about them That Klautz wasn't quite able to figure out himself.
"Hmmm, strange."
Klautz had yet to figure out that there was not even a single woman in the group assigned to him. It seemed that even the little girls and the so called 'traps' were removed. But it would quite take quite the time for him to figure that out.
The reason for all of that being that he was judging the soldiers on the basis of individual strength alone to figure out why he felt the strange butterflies inside his heart. Alas, he should have gauged them gender wise instead.
'Is it because I am in a crowd, that I feel nauseous?'
One must note that Klautz was completely innocent and he handn't done anything suspicious with the women either let alone the little girls. What an irony, Klautz was innocent yet he was living in hell atoning for no sins on his part.
It seemed like someone was pulling the strings behind his back.
Klautz shook his head as he let go of the bothering thought forever. Nothing good was going to come out of it anyway.
'There are things that I can change and there are things I can't. No point brooding over those I can't.'
"Everyone buckle up! This is day 3 of your training."
The whispering among the audience stopped as they soon stared at Klautz with apt attention.
"Pick up your weapons. I'll make a man out of you."
Klautz let arched into a smile. He hadn't yet realized the hypocrisy behind his claim.
