Chapter 126: Chapter 120 Zhan Qipei Rushes Over
“How did you come here?” Qiao Jing asked, puzzled.
“I’ve come to pick you up and take you home,” Zhan Qipei replied in the most casual tone.
Their conversation sounded so natural, so seamless. It was just like the most ordinary of days for ordinary people, simple and plain, filled with the mundane tasks of daily life.
The three plump women were all staring dumbfounded at this scene, their mouths agape wide enough to fit a fist.
Moments later, they were so embarrassed they wished they could each find a mouse hole to crawl into.
Especially the plump woman who had just been boasting to Qiao Jing about her uncle, claiming he earned an annual salary of five hundred thousand and suggesting that her own husband’s uncle might not even deem her worthy.
It was a real slap in the face!
Qiao Jing’s husband made a grand entrance with not one but nine Maybachs, accompanied by numerous valiant and extraordinary bodyguards.
In terms of status, her husband’s uncle probably wasn’t even fit to carry this big shot’s shoes. Not to mention her husband’s uncle, her own husband who earned a million annually wouldn’t be worthy of carrying this man’s shoes either!
“I’m not going home to cook today. Xiangxiang is just recovering from a serious illness, and I want to make something nice for her to eat.” Qiao Jing had planned to call Zhan Qipei later, but she was completely thrown off by his sudden, glamorous entrance.
“Alright then, I’ll stay and help you,” Zhan Qipei said. He had grown accustomed to the meals Qiao Jing made. Food cooked by anyone else tasted as bland as chewing wax.
He used to worry about what would happen when they got divorced in the future and he couldn’t have Qiao Jing’s cooking anymore.
Now—
He was even more worried. If he ate Qiao Jing’s cooking every day and couldn’t control his mouth, he would inevitably become a big fatso one day.
So his daily exercise routine had grown even more intense than before.
Qiao Jing looked toward the bodyguards standing in pairs at the door and frowned, “With so many people, I’m afraid I don’t have enough ingredients. I’ll go to the market to buy some more.”
No sooner had Qiao Jing finished speaking than Zhan Qipei waved at the bodyguards, and they all quickly got into the cars, each heading home to their own mothers.
Not far off, Tang Yan saw this scene and curled his lips in a wry smile, shaking his head in reflection.
He mused that if anyone wanted to eat the food cooked by their boss’s wife, they were dreaming – unless they reached his level and managed to charm the boss’s wife’s close friend. Otherwise, he reckoned he wouldn’t even qualify to taste her cooking.
Dusk fell and lights began to illuminate the evening.
Four people sat together for dinner.
“Miss Qiao’s cooking skills are really good!” Tang Yan said, giving Qiao Jing a thumbs-up as he ate.
Qiao Jing looked at Lin Xiuxiang and replied with a smile, “Xiangxiang has learned from me for a long time. She has a talent for cooking, and her food is as good as mine.”
At this comment, Tang Yan’s expression lit up with delight, and he looked at Lin Xiuxiang as if he’d found a treasure.
“Xiangxiang, you can cook too? How come you never mentioned it before?”
Feeling Tang Yan’s gaze from such a close distance, Lin Xiuxiang’s face turned red.
“Qiao Jing is exaggerating. I can cook, but I’m not as good as her,” Xiuxiang demurred.
“How much worse? After you’re well, cook just for Assistant Tang. Then he’ll know,” Qiao Jing said with a teasing glint in her eyes.
“Qiao Jing… just eat your food… even rice can’t stop your mouth…” Lin Xiuxiang felt so shy that she wanted to hide under the table.
Tang Yan smirked blissfully, occasionally sneaking spirited glances at Lin Xiuxiang.
While he kept gazing at Lin Xiuxiang, he shoveled down his rice, forgetting to pick up any side dishes, yet he ate with gusto.
Qiao Jing looked at the rapidly warming relationship between the two, genuinely happy for them from the bottom of her heart.
On the way back, the car stopped at a red light. Zhan Qipei turned to look at Qiao Jing, feeling throughout the ride that she was in a particularly good mood.
Of course, he knew that her happiness was because of Tang Yan and Lin Xiuxiang.
“You seem to quite enjoy getting involved in others’ marital affairs?”
Qiao Jing’s train of thought was interrupted, and she turned to look at Zhan Qipei.
“Xiangxiang is not just anybody to me. In my eyes, she’s not only a close girlfriend but also my family. Of course, I’m overjoyed from the bottom of my heart that she’s found someone who truly cares for her.”
“Then it seems you’re quite satisfied with Tang Yan?” Zhan Qipei asked with his deep, restrained eyes, subtly inquiring.
“Assistant Tang is an honest and reliable person, with a bit of martial arts background, he’s efficient and capable at work, truly impressive. He also gives off an indescribable sense of security and stability—such good men are rare,” Qiao Jing praised generously.
Qiao Jing was so busy speaking her mind that she didn’t notice Zhan Qipei’s unusual expression.
“Your evaluation of Tang Yan is really quite high.”
There was a hint of jealousy in Zhan Qipei’s voice.
“He deserves such praise,” Qiao Jing continued to commend.
Zhan Qipei pursed his lips. After two seconds of silence, he asked, “What about me? What kind of person do you think I am?”
Qiao Jing gently arched her delicate eyebrows in confusion, staring at Zhan Qipei, wondering if it was her imagination, but she thought she saw a glimmer of unspoken anticipation in his eyes.
As if to say, “Come on, praise me fast.”
Qiao Jing frowned, sure she was imagining things. Zhan Qipei couldn’t possibly have such expectations.
“What need is there to say? The CEO of Zhan Corporation, who, at such a young age, led the family business to new heights and became the wealthiest man in the capital. Your capabilities are evident.”
“That’s not what I’m asking about.” Zhan Qipei didn’t like Qiao Jing describing him with such formal language.
“Then what do you mean?” Qiao Jing looked at him, puzzled.
The traffic light turned green, Zhan Qipei pressed on the accelerator, and after two seconds of silence, he continued, “What do you think of me as a husband? Who’s better compared to Tang Yan?”
His question caught Qiao Jing by surprise. She never expected him to suddenly ask such a thing, leaving her momentarily unsure of how to respond.
The silence from Qiao Jing made Zhan Qipei feel as if cat’s claws were scratching at his heart, scratching with such urgency.
“Is my question that hard to answer?”
You didn’t hesitate for even a second when you were praising Tang Yan just now, did you?
The more Zhan Qipei thought about it, the more jealous he became, his face turning greener and the swallowed saliva unbearably sour.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
“It’s indeed quite hard to answer,” Qiao Jing said as she lifted a hand to touch her chin.
“Why is it hard to answer?” Zhan Qipei pressed.
“Because our marriage is a contract one. To put it bluntly, although we live under the same roof, we basically don’t have much interaction in that area. You don’t act like a husband either, which makes it hard for me to judge. Maybe when you find true love in the future and marry someone you like, you can ask your wife whether you qualify or not.”
Right after Qiao Jing finished speaking, she heard a firm and low voice in her ear.
“I won’t marry anyone else.”
