Chapter 228: The List

The beautiful pair of eyes that belonged to the Demonic Fairy was staring directly at Ling Xian. All she could feel was shock as she watched the crowd of people cheering him on.

She really did not expect that Ling Xian was not arrogant but actually had the capability to fix the Array of the Purple Cloud. This astounded her and made her feel embarrassed. However, when she remembered the bet she made, all the emotions she felt melted into one.

Shame.

She was ashamed.

Listening to his orders?

No room for any objections?

The Demonic Fairy shuddered. Just picturing that scene made her feel chilly.

She was someone whose name alone shook the Islands. Why would she ever want to be a man’s servant? It would be better to just kill her.

Fortunately, the fight that determines the bet will happen half a month later. When that time comes, if she wins, then there would be no need for her to comply with the conditions of this bet and instead, she will gain a faithful follower.

[I definitely cannot lose the battle that’s happening in two weeks!]

The Demonic Fairy formed fists with her hands. Watching Ling Xian, who was being treated like a star on everyone’s palm, her face turned rigid.

Ling Xian was being crowded by all the Elders and many other members of the Zi Yang House. Every single one of them was complimenting him with big words and giving him their thanks.

“Everyone, stop flattering me. I am thin-skinned.”

Listening to the rumbling compliments, Ling Xian shook his head with a bitter smile. He couldn’t take it anymore.

Statements like “Master Ling is a multi-talented beast that’s never been seen before” or “Master Ling will definitely make it to the top” were being thrown around like cheap lettuces. Every single sentence said to Ling Xian made him ecstatic and embarrassed. However, none of them were exaggerated. They simply could not express their appreciation towards Ling Xian enough.

“Okay, okay, everyone, please quiet down. We have something important to discuss.” Zi Dong Lai shushed everyone by placing a finger before his lips.

Immediately, everyone closed their mouths. They had to respect the Headmaster.

Seeing this, Ling Xian sighed in relief. He threw an appreciative glance at Zi Dong Lai. He really couldn’t handle it anymore. For the first time, he felt like being complimented was a form of torture.

What could he do? Those statements thrown at him were simply too much.

Though the words were nice to hear, Ling Xian was sure that if they continued, statements like “Master Ling can break the universe” or “Master Ling can crush a planet with his foot” will come out of their mouths.

Now that everyone has stopped speaking, Zi Dong Lai’s expression turned serious. He bowed down to Ling Xian deeply and said, “Ling Xian, thank you for restoring the Array of the Purple Cloud. Such grand kindness is something the entire House will remember. We will not forget this even after we die.”

“Headmaster, please straighten up. I am a part of the Zi Yang House after all. Helping out a little is my responsibility,” Ling Xian quickly extended his arms and helped the Headmaster up.

However, Zi Dong Lai ignored Ling Xian’s hands and continued his deep bow. Only after a long while, did he stand up straight, “What you did was not just ‘helping us out a ‘little’. This possesses great meaning to my House. Without the array, the House would’ve lost 30 percent of its capabilities. Therefore, you must accept this bow.”

“Headmaster, you are exaggerating. You invited me, out of the kindness of your heart, to be the Honorable Guest of your House. How can I not do my part?” Ling Xian gently smiled.

“Haha, inviting you to be the Honorable Guest is the best decision I made in my life.” Zi Dong Lai laughed out loud. Then, he wiped off his smile and said in a serious tone, “Ling Xian, I have another request.”

Ling Xian took the hint and chuckled. “Headmaster, you want me to restore the Array of the Purple Cloud to its original state don’t you?”

“I knew I couldn’t hide my intentions from you. You are right. After the great war, the array is only 30 percent of what it used to be. If it can be completely restored, then the House of Zi Yang can definitely leap forward greatly,” Zi Dong Lai’s expression was serious, “Therefore, I want you to lend a helping hand.”

“Headmaster, I am honored that you think so highly of me. But you have overestimated me.” Ling Xian wasn’t sure if he wanted to laugh or cry.

He was a novice at ancient arrays. The reason he was able to restore the array was purely due to the technique, Dawn of Life. Sadly, this technique was only effective the first time it was cast on an array. The second time it is used, it becomes useless.

“Ay… I guess I am too ambitious. You are far too young after all,” Zi Dong Lai exhaled deeply, though unwilling to give up. “Ling Xian, is there really no possibility?”

“I…” Ling Xian hesitated, “To me, right now, it is impossible. But in the future, I should be able to do it.”

This statement was not out of arrogance or self-flattery. For someone who has the inheritance of the Pioneer of Ancient Arrays, he will for sure have a smooth sail on the path of arrays. If he can’t even fix the Array of the Purple Clouds, then he would be a failure.

Of course, it was simply impossible for him to achieve this now. But after spending some time enlightening himself, he will definitely be able to restore the array to its original state.

“Do you mean it?!”

Zi Dong Lai’s eyes exploded with light and hope.

“I make no promises, but I am fairly confident,” Ling Xian made no guarantees with his words.

“Hahaha, fairly confident is good. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me,” Zi Dong Lai brightly laughed as he looked at Ling Xian admiringly, “Ling Xian, I entrust this matter onto you. Any request you may have regarding arrays, let me know, I will fulfill your demands.”

“Since you offered, then I won’t be shy,” Ling Xian’s eye’s brightened. He was worried that he would have no material for making a spatial portal. Now that Zi Dong Lai offered, he naturally felt excited.

“No problem. You can take whatever you want from the House’s room of treasure!” Zi Dong Lai waved his hand and made a very generous offer.

Hearing this, Ling Xian’s smile deepened. He said, “Alright, then I will return to my house to make a list. I will give it to you very soon.”

“Not a problem.” Zi Dong Lai was so buried with joy that he accepted without even thinking. He even added, “Don’t feel shy. Ask me for anything. Though the House of Zi Yang is not the wealthiest, I can afford simple array materials.”

He did not notice that when he spoke this sentence, Ling Xian’s grin turned mischievous, “Okay. As long as I have your word, I won’t worry. I will leave first.”

Then, he turned around to walk home.

When he passed the Demonic Fairy, however, he paused. Lowering his head until he was ear level with her, he whispered, “Demonic Fairy, don’t forget about our bet. If you lose to me in two weeks, you better be an obedient servant.”

Instantly, the Demonic Fairy’s face flushed with color. She gritted her teeth and shouted, “You won’t ever get the chance!”

“Haha, we will see in half a month.”

Ling Xian began to laugh brightly. Taking one step away from the Demonic Fairy, he disappeared before everyone’s eyes.

…..

Two days later.

A piece of spiritual paper that was inked with a list of invaluable materials flew out of a spiritual peak and entered the house Zi Dong Lai was staying in. Without missing a beat, it fell into Zi Dong Lai’s palm.

“Ling Xian knows what he wants already?”

Zi Dong Lai grinned softly. Looking at the list full of valuable treasure, he didn’t feel like there would be an item that he cannot provide.

In the next moment, he almost puked.

Remains of Meteorites.

Gold of Spirituality and Eternality.

Stolen Gem of Immortality.

Zi Dong Lai’s hand shook as he felt his world swirl. He almost fainted from reading the list.

These were only the first three materials listed. As for the rest of the list, this proud Headmaster couldn’t even muster the courage to continue reading.

“Ling Xian, you really aren’t shy.”

Zi Dong Lai didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry. Remembering that he told Ling Xian to go all out, he wanted to smack himself.

These spiritual materials will be difficult to find in the entire Shi Ao Island, let alone finding them in the House of Zi Yang.
