Chapter 293

Chapter 293 - The Human Heart Was Hard to Predict

At that moment, Mother Jia, noticing Jiang Hao's reluctance to drink his wine, felt a surge of anxiety.

With no other choice, she poured herself another cup, adopting a humble demeanor as she offered a toast to Jiang Hao.

“Mr. Jiang, I offer you another toast. Please, in consideration of our plight as orphans and a widow, spare us.”

She then glanced at Butler Jia, who was standing nearby.

Understanding her silent plea, Butler Jia promptly retrieved a folder from beside him and presented it to Jiang Hao with both hands.

Simultaneously, Mother Jia added her plea.

“Mr. Jiang, this represents a 5% stake in Jia Enterprises, valued at over one billion U.S. dollars!”

“Just sign on the dotted line, and from this day forward, it's yours, as a gesture of our apology.”

“We offer this as a token of our sincerity. We implore you, Mr. Jiang, to accept it and forgive us.”

Jiang Hao, taken aback by the offer, hastily accepted the documents from Butler Jia. After reviewing them, he inhaled sharply.

“Hiss—”

He then turned to Mother Jia, his gaze a mix of astonishment and skepticism.

“Madam Jia, are you truly prepared to part with this?”

Although inwardly Mother Jia seethed with a desire to strike him down, she knew she hadn't yet reached her goal and restrained herself.

With a forced smile, she replied.

“As long as you release us and heal my son Renjie, it's all yours!”

Jiang Hao, seemingly bewitched by the offer, was overtaken by joy.

He snatched a pen from Butler Jia and hastily flipped to the last page of the document to sign his name.

As he signed, he remarked.

“Madam Jia, your generosity is overwhelming!”

“I was already inclined to forgive you, but now that you've presented me with such a generous gift, I simply must accept it, lest you worry unnecessarily!”

Upon hearing his response, a flicker of revulsion crossed Mother Jia's eyes, and she silently scorned him.

“A pauper remains a pauper. It's only the sight of money that loosens your tongue, along with your needless barbs!”

“I'll let you strut around a bit longer. Did you really think our Jia Family's possessions would be so easy to take?”

“If you've got the nerve to take them, you'd better have the life to enjoy them!”

Jiang Hao finished signing his name, tossed the pen aside, but clutched the folder in his hands tightly, reluctant to let go.

He then turned to Mother Jia and inquired.

“Mrs. Jia, where's Brother Renjie?”

At his words, Mother Jia nearly unleashed her fury, itching to give Jiang Hao a thrashing.

But the time wasn't right; she had to bite back her anger.

Maybe she was aiming to elicit Jiang Hao's sympathy.

Or perhaps, the thought of Renjie's current pitiful state genuinely struck a chord, and Mother Jia found herself in tears.

“Sob… sob… sob…”

“Mr. Jiang, Renjie is in such agony, itching and in pain, his mind's all muddled. He doesn't even recognize me anymore, and now he's bedridden!”

Jiang Hao's brow furrowed instantly, as if a pang of conscience had hit him.

“That does sound quite dreadful!”

“You're telling me!”

“I sense your sincerity, so I'll forgive you.”

With that, Jiang Hao lifted the wine glass from the table and downed it in one go.

Mother Jia, who had been on the verge of tears, and Jiang Renyi with his son, bundled up beside her like rice dumplings, witnessed this and felt a surge of ecstatic relief.

Yet outwardly, they feigned overwhelming surprise.

“Is that true? Mr. Jiang! You've forgiven us?”

“I always knew Mr. Jiang was a man of great generosity!”

Mother Jia lavished praise upon Jiang Hao, eager to win his favor.
