A Level Zero's Struggle (part 8)

The chasers were more than stunned now.

It wasn't as if this youth was not aware of their initial plans? They also openly went against him and tried to use him as bait and he knew it very well.

They could tell that this youth was very well aware then why was he doing this. He had a choice to take the spoils and abandon them since they were not in good conditions.

Qiao did not think of this as helping them. He was only doing what they were not able to do in their present condition.

As for the spoils, he didn't need them for the time being.

After he buried the body of the chaser, he turned.

The rain had stopped yet the blood had dyed this place crimson everywhere.

The leader supported against the trunk of the tree and counted the pearls, he gave half the pearls to Qiao but he did not accept, "If you equally divide then I am willing to take,"

There was a proverb, sometimes you don't need to kill your enemy with a weapon; your attitude alone can simply stab them in the heart.

His words felt the same to him right now. He wasn't exactly a cruel man. He had just been following the trend as all others did. Hunting was a profession where the strong ruled and the weak were killed.

But the group leader was ashamed now.

His dream to reach the peak of second level or reach the third level was shattered now his experience points were reduced due to his fatal injuries. Else he could have died.

In severe situations when a hunter faced brutal or fatal injuries which could immediately kill a normal human, the token would use up the experience points to save the hunter for once.

There were even more hidden usages of this token which only higher level hunters can employ.

The group leader equally divided and Qiao picked his share gladly. He would not reject something that was offered to him. He had no need for it, but it would not hurt to save some spoils for future needs.

He placed the pearls inside his bag.

"Do we need to go back to find another team?" then he turned to the leader and asked.

The leader smiled weakly.

"These two chasers might not be doing any hunting for few days. As for me, I am willing to follow you. My injuries only need one or two hours to cure." After seeing the brawler's ability, he had unconsciously accepted this guy as someone powerful. And right now he was in a weaker position after having his points reduced greatly.

The leader needed another weapon as soon as possible and for this his spoils were not enough.

But he could borrow a weapon from the fellow chaser.

It was not necessary to go back and ask the guild to provide a hunt opportunity, they could search the area around the lower region to find a hunt themselves too.

To ask the guild gives a general information about the hunt but they could see that the information sometimes cannot be helpful when the luck was playing bad.

Qiao had accumulated nearly five hundred experience.

He could not deny that with the increasing experience, he was feeling a surge in his strength and although not apparent, he could feel it within.

His first goal was to reach the level one and then leave the guild for good.

If he was being treated as a bait for all his life, how would he be able to become strong and face the worst enemy?

Leaving guild would not bring problem for him as he has a token to calculate his experience now. And lower level Guild were not restricting in the first place.

He sat against the trunk of tree and decided to wait. He could also tell the change in the leader's behavior and felt it was better to have an experienced hunter by his side.

He was giving second chance to this group leader to see whether he was trustable or not.

After all when leaving the guild, he needed few people to make his own team for the hunt. He now knew that a hunt was impossible without a team or group.

Moreover, he had no knowledge how these people could determine which monster to hunter or judge its level. To him all monsters seemed to be the same.

It would be dangerous to poke at a monster just to check its level.

He needed to remain in the guild for few days still and collect information.

After two hours, two chasers went back to the guild while the group leader was better enough to follow him.

He stood up and the weapon which he had borrowed from the other chaser hung around his waist.

He removed upper cover of his clothes and squeezed the water. It was made of skin of some unknown animal. Most the people Qiao happened to see were wearing such type of clothing.

"Don't you have another pair of clothes?" the group leader asked Qiao.

He noticed that the brawler was still wearing his tattered clothes.

"I don't know where to buy," Qiao shrugged his shoulders.

"You should buy some hard cover clothes first. If we stumble on to a enraged monster, it would be troublesome to save the body from direct hits." The chasers had to wear clothes made of rugged monster skin to protect them. But only low-level chasers did this. Higher hunters could directly buy themselves armor.

Qiao took deep breath and decided he would buy himself proper clothes when he got the chance. It was not appropriate to walk around in tattered clothes like he did.
