As soon as the magic scroll was used, it immediately emitted a bright light that blinded everyone who had their eyes open. The magic beasts cried out in pain as they hurriedly closed their eyes. Those who were near the magic scroll even fell down to the ground while rolling their bodies in pain

Fortunately, Porenz gave the group an early warning. If not, they would definitely be in the same state as these magic beasts or even worst actually. These magic beasts are at the peak of the Junior Rank while the mages are only at the middle stage. The difference in strength was vast

The bright light not only blinded the magic beasts in a physical sense but even their senses suffered. Originally, the magic beasts should still be able to sense where Rezen and the others are using their ability to sense magic fluctuations

However, the magic scroll also has an effect on one's senses. The nearby magic fluctuations were thrown in disarray making it hard to distinguish one magic fluctuation from another

This was not limited to the magic beasts though as even Rezen's group has suffered but the advantage negates the disadvantage

The magic beasts want to catch up to the human mages to tear them apart. As for the mages, they only need to flee to keep their lives. As such, even if they are having a hard time telling apart one magic fluctuation from another, the time that the magic scroll brought for them was still more precious

The group continues to flee and they are now some distance away from the gymnasium considering how fast they are currently moving. If not for their rank, they might have been physically affected by the speed at which they travel

"We should be safe for n—" before Treen can even finish his words, the wolf that ye was riding on suddenly dissipated into motes of mana that wafted in the air before vanishing

"Treen!" Rezen called out and he was about to approach Treen when his own wolf dissipated

It was not only Rezen and Treen that suffered but the wolves that Porenz, Theon, and Fiona were riding on also dissipated. It seems like they underestimated the damage that the wolves received from the magic beasts

However, upon further thinking, it doesn't sound too surprising. All of the foxes that came from the gates are at the peak of the Junior Rank. The magic scrolls that were used to create the wolves should also be only at the peak of the Junior Rank since these people definitely don't have magic scrolls at the Senior Rank

As such, the wolves surviving the attacks of the magic beasts until now was already quite a good outcome but to Rezen and the others, this spelled danger!

Originally, with the magic scroll that Porenz used, their group would have been able to flee successfully but things are different now

Without the wolves, their speed cannot match up to magic beasts at the peak of the Junior Rank. No matter how hard they try to run, they cannot outrun the magic beasts chasing them

"Porenz!" Theon cried out while brandishing his brass knuckles. At this point, the wolves that are not affected by the magic scroll already caught up

There are after all hundreds of magic beasts and the range of Porenz's magic scroll was not enough to cover the entire area and affect all of them. And with the speed of the unscathed foxes, it only took a moment before they were able to catch up

One of the foxes jumped on Porenz and Treen moved to attack that fox but everyone knew that they were powerless against such an enemy. Not to mention, even if they were able to defeat this fox, it would delay them too much, giving the other magic beasts a chance to also attach them

Even if everyone in the group pour everything they have, they might still not be able to defeat a single magic beast at the peak of the Junior Rank much less hundreds of them

As Rezen naturally doesn't want to see Porenz die, he immediately throws another vial of potion or more like poison

It was still the poison that he concocted using the strange moss that absorbs contaminated stones. Since the strange moss that was used is at the 9th cycle or peak of the Junior Rank, it was already lethal enough on its own. However, after the usage of some alchemy, the poison has become even more potent and it can easily kill any of these foxes

The vial shattered upon impact and its contents splashed on the fox's fur and when its claws were only an inch away from Porenz's face, it suddenly stopped moving

With no hesitation, Porenz and Theon continued moving as they attacked that fox, sending its body flying into the air

However, this little bit of delay is enough for more foxes to catch up and several of them pounced at once

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Rezen threw even more vials of poison to kill those wretched magic beasts while biting his lower lip

"Should I spread the poison in a wide area?" Rezen contemplated. He wanted to hide his trump card so as to not catch too much attention but the current situation is making it hard for him to do that

After all, the poison he is using is special. Even if it currently only has the ability to kill entities up to the peak of the Junior Rank, even Senior Mages wouldn't be able to detect it

Ivy who is so mysterious is not able to detect the poison and Rezen doubts that any Senior Mage will be able to sense it. If he were to catch too much attention then with his current level, that would simply be courting death

Killing a few or several foxes with poison would not be too suspicious but once the number reached a certain threshold, it would be seen as abnormal

As much as Rezen doesn't want to use the poison on a large scale, he still has to do something!

"I will use the poison as the last resort but I still have other items I can use!" Rezen thought as he retrieved some Spirit Plants from his farm

The poison is currently his most lethal means of attack but it doesn't mean that he only has them. One must not forget that Rezen's biggest advantage is to grow any Spirit Plant that he wants

Some strange things happened on Rezen's hand and he threw it at the magic beasts. Those strange things were white in color and the appearance vaguely resembled a white ghost but at the top part, there were lush green leaves along with short stems

These items are Spirit Plants and they are called Ghost Berries!

One might think that after the Ghost Berries hit the foxes they would explode or cause some damage but that is not what happened

The Ghost Berries didn't harm the foxes in a physical sense but it was as if they didn't have a physical form and they directly entered the bodies of the magic beasts

In an instant, the foxes with silverish fur had a drastic change. Their bodies became translucent as if what remained of them was their souls but not only that, the foxes that were turned into ghosts actually started attacking their kin

"Sigh... although the Ghost Berries will also incur some suspicion but it was better to use them than use a large-scale poison attack. I didn't expect that the Ghost Berries would be this powerful! I thought that the foxes would struggle and the possession might even fail but the process was smooth sailing"

"This should be because of the high purity of the Ghost Berries that the farm grew" Rezen continued as he threw even more Ghost Berries

This situation kinda reminded him of his days back in the Earth Realm. Back then he relied on spirit plants like cherry bombs to bombard his enemies to death. Even if they are stronger than him, using his thousands of bombs along with the recovery pills enables him to overpower them easily

That was only possible because of the incomplete laws of the earth realm though. Now that Rezen is inside a realm with intact laws, his cheat's effect was greatly lessened but nonetheless, a cheat is still a cheat

"Let's go!" Rezen said after buying time once more. Even if the Ghost Berries incur suspicions, he would just say that he found them inside one of the resource points that the academy has. He already entered a few of them and in fact, he did obtain the seeds of the Ghost Berries from one of the resource points. He has the perfect alibi!

Rezen and the group were just about to flee again when a pink-colored mist suddenly descended everywhere

"Cover your nose!" Rezen shouted as he used his palm to cover his mouth and nose
