Chapter 357: Ch.356 Mischief
While Su Ming and Diana were discussing whether the God of Sewers might attack Su Ming through the toilet while he was using the restroom, a figure that appeared to be wearing nothing but a bedsheet flew in front of them.
Su Ming looked at Diana and sighed. With a fashion choice like that, it had to be an Olympian god. The newcomer had two curved horns on his head and hooves for feet; if not for the human-like face, it would have been easy to mistake him for a demon.
He raised a flute and played a short tune, even starting an inexplicable striptease dance.
Not only Su Ming, but even Diana found it unbearable to watch. It was utterly disgraceful to Olympus. The guy kept winking at Diana while dancing, clearly being as lewd as possible.
His lustful eyes were fixed on Diana's chest as he kept swallowing saliva.
Diana immediately wanted to draw her sword and chop him down, but Su Ming gestured to let him handle it. This was clearly a challenger, and a warrior never feared challenges.
"Mortal! I am the great god of shepherds, Pan! I challenge you to a..."
"Swish!"
He raised the flute, apparently wanting to have a musical contest with Su Ming.
However, Su Ming didn't give him a chance to continue. The Godslayer Sword flashed out of its sheath, and his cloak propelled him with incredible speed. The divine blade, surrounded by lightning and intense light, sliced Pan's head clean off.
The horned head spun away, falling to the ground alongside the body, which plummeted into a deserted alley below.
Diana looked a bit helpless. The guy clearly wanted to compete in skills, and Su Ming just went ahead and decapitated him. However, on second thought, the victor survives, so it wasn't exactly wrong.
Besides, gods reincarnate after a while, so it didn't really matter.
"He was Hermes' son—mischievous and very lustful. He spent his days hanging out with nymphs."
Diana assumed Su Ming didn't know who his opponent was and just instinctively launched a strike, which was why the god hadn't had a chance to react before his death.
Pan was a sorcerer, not a warrior, so facing such a powerful warrior's charge without any preparation could only end poorly.
Su Ming shrugged and descended toward the fallen body. "I knew who he was. This goat-hoofed guy definitely isn't Hermes' real son."
"Uh..." Diana was confused. "What do you mean?"
"Hermes has bird-like feet—talons—while this guy had hooves?" Su Ming shook his head, kneeling to search the corpse. "Maybe there's a demon neighbor in the picture. Let me guess, surname Wang?"
Wonder Woman began to understand what Su Ming meant. She glared at him with exasperation. This was getting ridiculous.
While the Olympian gods were known for their chaotic relationships, being gods meant they wouldn't be involved with demons. But if someone said that Pan was actually Minotaur's kid, well, that would be uncertain...
After all, while Minotaur was a bull-headed creature, he was Zeus' son.
Cows and goats are both cloven-hoofed animals, and while their hooves may differ in size, they look quite similar...
"What am I even thinking?!"
Diana quickly shook her head, trying to get rid of these thoughts. Su Ming had led her thinking astray.
And anyway, demon names were generally long and ugly—how could there possibly be a demon with an Asian surname like Wang?
Although making dark jokes at the expense of a god's headless body was admittedly a lot of fun...
Pan didn't have much on him, just a few drachmas and a flute that was covered in saliva and blood.
Su Ming pocketed the coins, broke the flute over his knee, and tossed the pieces into a nearby garbage can.
He then took off his helmet and inhaled deeply.
"Knock me out."
He looked at Diana, gesturing for her to hit him hard on the back of his head.
"Why?" Diana frowned. Why knock him out after killing a god? What kind of weird hobby was this?
The last time, after they killed Steel, he had her stab him with a big sword, and then they sang and danced with the Batman Who Laughs in the Batcave...
Her gaze sharpened.
Seeing her expression, Su Ming realized she was misunderstanding.
"Don't get the wrong idea. I need to meet someone and make sure Pan doesn't bother us again."
"What do you plan to do?" Diana looked around but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. How was Su Ming going to deal with a god?
Su Ming didn't answer, just motioned for her to get on with it.
"Wham!"
Diana punched him.
"Too weak. Put more force into it." Su Ming frowned. He wasn't just an ordinary person—this kind of hit wouldn't knock him out, even if it was Batman doing the hitting.
"Wham!" Diana used her shield to strike him.
"Nope, still not enough. You know what, I'll ask Zatanna to use a spell on me later."
Su Ming shook his head, sighing. But his words pricked Diana's pride.
"Argh!!! Wham!!!"
With a roar, Diana put all her strength into her next punch, smashing Su Ming into the ground, leaving him embedded like a tree planted upside down.
He finally passed out.
However, Diana looked around nervously—she had made quite a commotion just now, and it would be better to carry Su Ming away.
Although the Olympian gods would reincarnate, ordinary people seeing this scene would only think it was a murder.
Unconscious, Su Ming entered a dream state. He knew it would happen, and now that he had seen the true form of the Dreaming, the pure white dream around him couldn't confine him.
He manifested X-metal in the dream, using it to break out of his own dream.
He found a raven—there were ravens all over the Dreaming—and then used the portal there to return to the Land of the Endless, where he met Death.
"You're back again." Death was currently playing a game of chess by herself, her small hand propped against her cheek, her brows furrowed, seemingly stumped by her own move.
Seeing Su Ming return, she smiled and messed up the chessboard.
"I've come seeking your help. Lately, some people have been getting in my way—and they just won't die."
"Who are they?" Death still smiled, but her tone grew serious. To hinder the Endless' proxy in his duties—did they think they could escape Death?
"Olympian gods." Su Ming immediately placed the blame on them.
"Olympus... We promised to heed Zeus' plea, allowing their members to always reincarnate. Death for them is a prolonged process. I can at most delay it a bit here for you."
Death extended a hand and rubbed the wall, making it turn transparent like a foggy winter window.
The gray sky and black hills appeared before them, and Death immediately spotted the headless soul queuing among the dead.
"This is a transit point for souls on their way to the afterlife, right?"
"Yes, but gods will inevitably reincarnate. That's my duty," Death said, sounding a bit helpless.
"Of course, I wasn't thinking of stopping their reincarnation. But, isn't the reincarnation of Olympians handled through the Underworld? By Hades, right?"
Su Ming had a plan that seemed quite feasible.
"Yes, Hades holds the title of God of the Underworld. His lifespan is practically infinite, but even he will one day come here to meet me," Death responded calmly, because she was the end of all things.
"Perfect, then. As long as they reincarnate, it's fine, right? And there are plenty of places that can handle reincarnation—it's not like the Underworld is the only one."
Death nodded lightly, smiling. She was beginning to understand, and she also felt a strong curiosity about how well Su Ming understood her duties.
For the first time ever, she felt as though she had found a confidant outside her family.
