Chapter 1229 Wrapping It Up

Chapter 1229  Wrapping It Up

While Riekan's attention was wholly focused on what was happening to the Vessel of Envy within the massive ray of light, Valyr looked at the massive ray of light with his mouth wide agape, feeling immense shock from the might it contained.

Bzzzzzzz!!!

Considering the fact that the ray of light struck the Vessel of Envy almost at the very instant Vaughn's voice stopped echoing in his mind, it did not take long for the young man to understand that the ray of light came from none other than Vaughn himself.

'…If that doesn't scream orbital laser strike, then I don't know what does.' Sensing that most of the power contained within the ray was focused at its very center, the young man was briefly reminded of a weapon from his past life that only existed in fiction.

The orbital laser strike.

Conjuring a massive laser beam from outer space, only for it to wreak havoc on the ground it touched, the orbital laser strike was what Valyr thought as the greatest weapon one could ever ask for, combining both maneuverability and power into one.

Unfortunately, there were many existing variables that hindered the existence of the orbital laser strike in his past life, one of which being the atmosphere that surrounded Earth.

Not only that, but there also existed a layer of man-made waste and space debris that orbited beyond the atmosphere, reducing the amount of power that would have come from the laser if it ever reached the ground.

Though all of the governments did work together at some point to clean up most of the debris that hovered beyond the Earth's atmosphere, that still did not stop the atmosphere from nullifying most of the power contained within the laser, prompting the governments to scrap the idea in the end.

Of course, that didn't mean that the existence of an orbital laser strike wasn't feasible. With enough energy put into the laser, it would be able to ignore the existence of the atmosphere and direct most of its energy into its intended target.

Such as what Valyr was looking at right now.

The only problem was that the amount of energy needed to render the existence of the atmosphere negligible was a couple of magnitudes greater than what Earth was able to produce at the time.

At the very least, Earth would need to make use of Dyson swarms to generate enough energy to do so.

However, from what Valyr could recall, Earth had only begun to enter the age of commercial fusion reactors.

Bzzzzzzz!!!

As thoughts of the orbital laser strike and his past around it continued to linger within Valyr's mind, the ray of light continued to focus most of its strength onto the Vessel of Envy, forcing the vitality contained within its body to expend its energy just to fight against it.

Though he was not able to clearly see the vitality within the Vessel of Envy resist against the massive ray of light, with the help of [Warrior's Eyes of Slaughter] and his heightened stats, Valyr was at least able to see that the entity had been thoroughly broken down into pieces because of it.

And eventually, the ray of light disappeared from both Valyr and Riekan's vision, only leaving behind the ground it charred beyond recognition, as well as the pieces of charred flesh that once made up the Vessel of Envy they were previously fighting against.

Just as the young man felt the urge to move a bit closer to see whether or not the entity was truly dead, Vaughn's voice began to resound within Valyr's mind once more. '…It took a bit longer than I thought it would, but the Vessel of Envy's finally dead.'

'Thank you,' said Valyr in response, knowing that he would have undoubtedly died even if he truly went all out against the further empowered Vessel of Envy. 'Also, I'm sorry.'

'For what, though?' replied Vaughn as he faintly chuckled. 'Disturbing me? That's not a problem at all. If I were actually irritated by that, then I shouldn't have given you the talisman in the first place.'

'For forcing you to move faster,' answered Valyr, which only made Vaughn let out a chuckle once more.

'You shouldn't be apologizing for that whatsoever,' said the man. 'You used the talisman for its intended situation. You made the right choice. Even I would've used the talisman if I knew I was up against a Vessel of Envy.'

'…Or any other Sin Vessels for that matter,' continued Vaughn, reminding Valyr of a few memories he had on the matter from the past.

Though, before he could begin to go over these memories in his mind, the man's words echoed in his mind once more, immediately causing his expression to turn into that of confusion.

'In any case, although I did say the Vessel of Envy is dead, it's not actually really dead,' said Vaughn. 'Given enough time, the Vessel of Envy would return to Veldanyr through other forms.'

'After all, I've only destroyed the vessel part behind the Vessel of Envy. The soul part still lingers, albeit now at a weakened form.'

Hearing those words, Valyr began to think back to the memories he had on the matter once more. However, this time, he looked at them with far greater understanding than before.

Considering that he recognized the Vessel of Envy as a Seed of the Underworld, it went without saying that the young man had encountered a similar entity in his past life.

In fact, it could be said that almost every player in Greater Beyond had encountered one at some point, especially when the existence of the Underworld was the basis behind one of Greater Beyond's version updates.

Because of that, information on the Underworld and the existence of the Sin Vessels gradually spread among the players and the NPCs, allowing them to be well-equipped when they did come across one at some point.

From what Valyr could remember, he and his group were forced to fight against a Vessel of Pride, a Sin Vessel that was barely known throughout the player base at the time.

Knowing that even a small bit of information on the vessel would help everyone out in the long run, it went without saying that they fought against the Vessel of Pride, relying on the items and skills they had to kill it three times in a row.

By the time it revived itself a third time, the Vessel of Pride looked at them for a bit before its body crumbled into pieces, prompting them to think that all Vessels of Pride would only be able to survive two deaths in a row before finally succumbing.

'Now that I think about it, each of them had differing mechanics based on the sin they had,' thought the young man to himself, only now realizing it thanks to Vaughn's words.

'In any case, I'm more than confident that you wouldn't be coming across a being like that anytime soon,' said the man to Valyr just as the latter finished going through his train of thought. '…Unless if you actively seek it out, of course.'

'Does it look like I have a death wish?' responded Valyr in return. 'I was only forced to fight it because of the circumstances.'

'I know,' replied Vaughn, giving him the feeling that the man was nodding at his words. 'However, it doesn't hurt to obtain more information on these Sin Vessels. More specifically, I'd suggest you obtain more information on the Underworld itself.'

'Also, in case you forget, you can only ask for my help one last time after this,' continued the man. 'Even if you beg for my help after that final request, I won't help you out.'

'I'll keep that in mind,' said the young man with a nod, getting the feeling that now was a good time to ascend to the next class rank. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

After all, he didn't know when he'd have to fight against another being like the Vessel of Envy in the future. It was always better to be prepared than to be pushed to dire straits.

'In any case, even though this entire thing has gone way out of proportion, I can finally have Riekan upgrade my accessory.' '…Perhaps a bit more than that even.' Talking with Vaughn for a bit more after that, the young man soon had a wide grin on his face after their conversation ended, thinking about how the fact he'd gone way above and beyond meant he could ask more from Riekan.

Fortunately for him, it seemed that Riekan also had the same thought as him, thinking that it was only right that he upgraded Valyr's accessory further than he initially intended with how much he'd contributed to the overall fight.

'So…' Seeing that Riekan was heading towards him, Valyr took out the Necklace of Enlightenment from his neck with a slight smile. 'Now that the inauspicious omen is gone, what do you plan on doing next?'

'Well, it goes without saying that I need to explain everything that happened to everyone in the clan first,' replied the man as he received the young man's necklace with a faint nod.

'After that, I'll have to repair the damages to the clan estate.'

Hearing those words, Valyr immediately felt a sense of guilt, especially when he thought about how his attacks were the cause behind the destruction in the first place.

But of course, with how he was forced to use those attacks just to fight the Vessel of Envy on equal grounds, Riekan did not blame the young man for his actions, instead just asking him to come back once he was finished upgrading the accessory.

With everything more or less settled on Riekan's end after that, the two of them then talked about the specifics of the upgrade Valyr wanted to be done on the necklace, which the man all took note of in his mind.

It was only after that did the young man leave the Caemelio clan for good, heading straight back to Daffors Village under the veil of the night.
