Chapter 108 Suicide Squad
TRANSPORT SHIP ABOVE THE BATTLEFIELD
Apophis stood beside Colonel Zareil.
Below them, the battle raged on. Hundreds of thousands of laser beams illuminated the battlefield, evidence of the violent conflict between the infantries.
The air itself sparked and glowed with the release of Ascensionist energy due to PvP fight between players, and shock waves rocked the transport ship as heavy artillery fire swept the ground of the deserted planet.
All that remained where the battle moved was blood, corpses, and craters.
Apophis, who was used to these sorts of battles from his old life, was not terribly impressed. Of course, the rest of his crew found it incredible!
Apophis said, "Well, Colonel Zareil, what mission do you have for me?"
Colonel Zareil answered, "Before the ground battle began, the rest of Regnier's fleet landed in a crevasse some kilometers from the planet's capital. This was at the end of the space battle a week ago. We have no idea what these Orc forces are doing there, seeing as how they're thoroughly entrenched. Even our special forces were pushed back. Even still, I find it likely that the Great Warlord Regnier is still there! We must neutralize him as soon as possible!"
Quest Notification: Neutralize Regnier [Grade: 40~50] [Difficulty: S]
Summary: Colonel Zareil asked you to help him neutralize the Great Warlord Regnier.
Objective: Incapacitate or capture the Great Warlord Regnier.
Reward for incapacitation: 5 levels + 50 Skill Points + achieve [rusted] relationship with Colonel Zareil.
Reward for Capture: 10 levels + 100 Skill Points + achieve [Trusted] relationship with Colonel Zareil + Treasure Map [Legendary].
Failure Penalty: Lose your Soul [Enclabossa] + lose 5 levels.
Refusal Penalty: Your relationship with Colonel Zareil changes from [distrusted] to [hostile] + demotion to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Federation army.
Apophis was surprised. A Treasure Map as a reward?
They could lead to very powerful and rare items, but the rarer the item, the more complicated the search for it. Even for a common item, it was extremely hard to complete a treasure map's riddle!
In fact, it was common, in Apophis's first life, for Legendary or Runic treasure maps to sell for low prices. No one had hopes of ever solving their riddles, so they were seen as worthless!
But what surprised Apophis the most was the penalty for failure.
The of Enclabossa? Did Regnier have anything to do with the world of Souls?
All this, combined with the quest being so high above his level, made Apophis carefully consider before deciding.
Of course, the reward was worthy of a quest of this rank, but the potential loss of Enclabossa was terrifying.
Enclabossa, of course, in addition to being a useful advisor, also doubled all of Apophis's stats. That was an incredible bonus which would be impossible to replace! It gave him a comfortable lead over the rest of the players, and he simply couldn't afford the disaster of losing Enclabossa now.
Yet, it wasn't as if Apophis could simply walk away! In this case, even refusal carried severe repercussions.
After half a minute of deep reflection, Apophis accepted the quest.
After all, he decided, even if he couldn't neutralize Regnier, Zareil might also fall in battle! This would automatically cancel the quest, and Apophis would be free of the consequences!
The only truly bad result would come if Apophis failed and Zareil survived.
As Apophis was thinking this, Colonel Zareil spoke up once more. "Sorry to force your hand, Apophis, but I must ensure your loyalty before I give you control of a part of the Federation armies."
