Chapter 5: Avatar Generated
Chapter 5: Avatar Generated ?
<Generating Avatar. Generation Complete!>
<You can now view your stat in your [MENU]. Pressed [MENU] on your home screen and click [STATUS]. Or say the word [STATUS] for quick access>
Xin checked his [STATUS].
‖ S T A TU S ‖
HP: 40
MP: 70
STR: 2
DEX: 2
CONS: 2
INT: 2
WIS: 2
CHA: 2
‖ E N D ‖
Hmm . . . what's this? Xin pressed each word to get the meaning behind the game abbreviation.
HP meant Hit Points. The number of points before your avatar dies.
MP meant Mana Points. This is essential to casting spells and skills.
Strength = Physical power.
Dexterity = Agility, reflexes.
Constitution = Endurance, resistance to injury.
Intelligence = Magical Power
Wisdom = Logical ability.
Charisma = Appeal, presence
<Take note. Once you choose a class, your stat will change. Are you okay about this?>
Xin pressed [Okay], and the game finalized his account and avatar.
<CONGRATULATIONS, player Lord Schrodinger! You have registered for this game at exactly [12:00 AM] at the time of our anniversary!>
<CONGRATULATIONS, player Lord Schrodinger! You're the last human to register in this game from your generation at exactly [12:00 AM] at the time of our anniversary!>
Augh . . . you don't have to rub it in. Xin already knew that he was four years behind his peers.
<CONGRATULATIONS, player Lord Schrodinger! You have registered at the time of your birthday at exactly [12:00 AM], which coincides perfectly with the time of our anniversary!>
Huh?
<CONGRATULATIONS, player Lord Schrodinger! You have successfully created an account using the very first model of our headgear at exactly [12:00 AM] in the time of our anniversary!'
Is this a bug? Xin couldn't help but think.
<Player Lord Schrodinger has met four requirements. Generating gift. Gift generated>
[You have received a GIFT from the central AI system, LUMINA!]
Oh . . . A gift?
Was this an anniversary thing?
Before he could open it, the AI spoke again.
<You will be transported to . . . the Abundant Shore>
Haa . . . Xin blinked, and before he knew it, he reappeared on a rocky beach.
Xin looked over at his surroundings and decided to check his gift first before he explore the area.
Opening it, his avatar glowed.
Hmm . . . feeling no change, Xin checked his status bar.
‖ S T A TU S ‖
HP: 40
MP: 70
STR: 2
DEX: 2
CONS: 2
INT: 2
WIS: 2
CHA: ?
‖ E N D ‖
Xin's head bobbed to the side.
"Huh?"
=======================
THE DEVELOPERs DISTRESS
=======================
In a separate realm within the game, the game developers gathered to evaluate the triumph of their anniversary event.
The developers themselves appeared as peculiar beings, resembling small, fluffy clouds made of cotton the size of a palm. Each of them had a single letter hovering above their avatars, serving as their names.
"The anniversary is a success. A lot of players are happy with their gifts."
"Good. Good."
"The event also drew in new players, and our stock skyrocketed even more."
"Good. Good. By the way . . . what kind of gifts they received?"
"It's completely random, and all are calculated by LUMINA, our GENIUS central AI system."
"It's all a matter of luck. If the old players logged in at exactly 12:00 AM, I think they would receive a +5 on one of their chosen stat."
"The newbies would receive rare items if they logged in at 12:00."
"Some would receive equipment if it's their birthday."
"So it's completely random?"
"That's right. LUMINA calculated everything! The more the players met the inputted requirements, the rarer their gift is!"
"I inputted the birthday thing."
"I put on the time and date."
"Ehehehe. Be amazed, for I put in the very first headgear!"
"OH! That's genius!"
"Guess what I put in?"
"What?"
"Hm~Hm~ . . . no one would be able to think of this, and no person could ever meet this requirement!"
"What is it?"
"Stop making us wait and spit it out!"
"Hohoho. Hear this out. I inputted in . . . a generation requirement!"
"What the hell is that?"
"What does that mean?"
"Anyway, what if a player met all these requirements?"
. . .
. . .
"NONE OF YOU THOUGHT OF IT?!"
"Ah . . . well . . . it's because no one would ever achieve it in the first place. He's got to be one in a billion and the luckiest guy on earth."
". . . So what would he get if ever?"
. . .
. . .
"No one knows. Lumina calculated everything. We just inputted the requirements."
"Yeah. There's zero chance that a player could ever meet all requirements. Ahahaha!"
"WE HAVE A PROBLEM!"
Another cloud appeared.
"What is it?"
"Don't be so loud."
"A PLAYER! A NEW PLAYER had received the ultimate GIFT from LUMINA!"
. . .
. . .
HUUHHH??!!!!
"I thought you said that this wouldn't happen?"
"Who is HE?"
"What are we going to do?"
"SILENCE! First, what did he receive?"
"T-that's . . ."
A board appeared showing player Lord Schrodinger's stat.
"I-infinite . . . charisma . . ."
"N-no way."
"Oh no! What are we going to do?! He's surely going to disrupt the game!"
"LUMINA, erase his account!"
<ERROR!>
<Player Lord Schrodinger didn't violate any rules. His account cannot be deleted>
"What do you mean he didn't violate any rules?! His CHA is infinity! He is bugged!"
<That is a gift by the system. Player Lord Schrodinger had met all the requirements that you have inputted, and so he received the ultimate gift.>
"Geh . . . Why do I get the feeling that it is our fault?"
"Is there a way to reprogram this?"
"LUMINA is absolute. Right now, if we want to reprogram her, we have to find the head developer."
"That guy had been gone years ago!"
"Without him, we couldn't do anything to the central system. He had inputted so many codes in its security that no one could crack."
"The most we could do is input another command to erase the multiple requirements, so this would never happen again."
"Damn it!"
"What should we do?"
"Kill the person."
"Shut up! Killing is not allowed!"
". . ."
". . ."
"Then there's nothing we could do."
. . .
. . .
"It's fine . . . let it be. I mean. What could one person do with infinite charisma, right? It's not like it's the major stat like STR and INT that's affected."
"T-that's right . . . and infinite charisma doesn't really pose too much problem in the game."
"Hmm . . . true . . . CHA is almost useless. It just makes the NPC a little friendlier towards you, that's all."
"See . . . it's nothing to be fretting over."
"Where is this player right now?"
"The system had transported him to Abundant Shore."
"Ah . . . that."
"Is something in there?"
"Every newbie island has some kind of rare treasures. But hear this . . . no player would be able to get it!"
"Ah. We did post on our site about a rare treasure in newbie islands, and we laugh at the players who search for it to no avail."
"Yeah. Those were the good times."
"By the way, why can't they get it again?"
"It's because the quest to get it requires at least a thousand CHA, so the NPC responsible for the quest would talk to them about it. But since they're newbies, there's no way that they could get their CHA that high even if they spent a hundred days on that island."
"Most give up a week and move on."
"And since the island is a one-way access only, once they leave, they could never come back. So until now, no one got that rare treasure."
"Ohh. So that's why! Ahahaha! A thousand CHA is really an impossible task! Even to this day, no one got their CHA to a thousand. GENIUS!"
". . . B-but . . . Lord Schrodinger has infinite CHA . . ."
. . .
. . .
AARGH!
