Chapter 189 Centaur Settlement
'There are no changes to the Number of creatures, and the surroundings are also clear.' Alex thought, looking at the colorless environment with multiple red auras of four-legged creatures in the distance.
Alex was being extra cautious because he needed to kill twenty entry-level Fourth Rank Boss Monsters in forty-eight hours, and he needed to do without relying on his Ruler Pride skill.
So mistakes that could cause him to fail raids on settlements resulting in him wasting time, would be disastrous and make him use the Ruler pride skill more than necessary, which would heavily impact his final results.
'I must eliminate the Six Archers on guard duty before the reinforcements arrive.' Alex thought, sitting atop a giant tree hundreds of meters from the settlement.
Alex kept his distance from the settlement because the centaur was very sensitive to smell, and the moment they recognized an intruder in their territory, they would come to eliminate him.
'If I execute it correctly with the correct skill combination, I can take care of four out of six in a surprise attack.' Alex thought of a plan to eliminate the six Archers.
After thinking of a plan, Alex used the phantom walk skill to appear on the nearest tree to the settlement getting a clear view from above while having all six archers in sight.
The settlement had a solid wall made from giant logs, close to thirty large log cabins with over forty residents, and six archers and guards with melee weapons patrolling its surrounding.
The settlement looked like a small village or, more accurately, a soldier camp because it had no normal children or females, and every centaur was wearing plated or leather armor with few magicians also being present among their ranks.
'Let's start the hunt.' Alex thought, taking a deep breath to calm his emotion and mentally prepare to constantly battle for the next two days.
After a few seconds, Alex opened his system window and accepted his promotion quest and his test of might.
Alex took out Legacy weapon, instantly transforming it into a pitch-black spear, and then covered the spear blade in mana, condensing t his limit, and then used the blade intent skill to cover it in a white mystic aura.
'The captain is the strongest among the archers, so let's start with him.' Alex thought as he firmly gripped the spear while looking at the tallest centaur with the biggest body frame.
The centaur stood at over ten feet tall with the lower body of a horse and the chiseled frame of a man, with his upper body being a lighter shade of bluish-green and his lower body being darker in color.
The centaur was a named creature at the peak of the third Rank and had a giant bow firmly gripped in his hand, standing on top of the wall looking forward like a statue.
Alex waited for the patrolling guard to go away from the nearest centaur to the captain, and the moment he was away, Alex took aim and threw the spear at the captain's head.
Alex didn't wait for the spear to reach its target and instantly vanished from his location toward his second target using the phantom walk.
Alex appeared before an unsuspecting centaur looking toward the forest with his fist oozing in dark mana, and before the creature could even react, his face was blown into chunks of meat and blood, instantly ending his life.
"BOOOOMMMM"
Alex landed on the ground as he heard an impact from his spear crashing the ground, and an instant later, he heard the centaur captain's body crash onto the ground.
There was silence, and the other centaur looked in shock at the death of two of their comrades, and before they could react to the situation, Alex summoned his spear back and vanished, leaving behind a mirage.
Alex appeared before his third target, thrusting his spear forward, impaling the stunned centaur through his head and killing him instantly.
Alex didn't waste a moment and threw his spear at the fourth centaur, who had regained his senses and was ready to shoot him with wind arrows.
"INTRUDER"
"AZOOOOOOOOO"
The strongest centaur among the melee guards roared at the top of his lungs, creating a high pitch noise sending a single to every creature in the settlement.
The centaur slashed his spear twice, sending a twin sending a large blade of wind toward Alex, then instantly charged toward him while the remaining two archers regained focus and started shooting arrows of wind.
Alex easily avoided the wind blades and arrows as he sprinted toward the charging centaur, and reaching near him, he avoided his spear and punched him on his torso.
"DIE"
The angry centaur roared, blocking the mana-enhanced fist with a barrier of wind, and then he thrust his spear forward multiple times, ripping through Alex's body multiple times, littering it with holes.
"Death Point"
Alex appeared behind one of the two remaining archers who had his bow string stretched back and was preparing a dark green arrow revolving at a rapid pace.
The archer was focused on Alex's mirage that it took him a moment to feel the danger to his life, but before he could do anything, a dark spear pierced through his skull ending his life.
Alex took back the spear and threw it toward the last remaining archer, and an instant later, the spear tore a big hole through the centaur's chest, destroying his heart and barely leaving him alive.
'Now, I do not need to worry about constant ranged attacks while I battle against the commander and the Boss.' Alex thought, seeing the last archer lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The remaining six centuries with melee weapons stood in shock, seeing six of their brethren die in mere moments while they could not do anything to the intruder.
The centaurs had livid expressions and wanted nothing more than to rip Alex apart, but they were intelligent enough not to charge at him and first tackle his ability to vanish like a ghost.
"Spread out and create a wind net to slow him down, and I will handle the rest." The strongest centaur gave an order and then charged toward Alex.
'There are two more archers and four magicians.' Alex thought, seeing multiple centaurs leaving their houses equipped with armor and weapons ready for battle.
Alex wasn't worried about the large number of centaurs as they were all at the second and third Rank, and with his current strength, he could easily maul through them with no difficulty, but the problem was the two creatures of the fourth Rank.
Alex summoned his spear back the moment the skill was off cooldown and engaged in a battle against the charging centaur while avoiding the barrage of range attacks aimed to hold him in place.
Alex didn't go on a killing spree and kept prolonging the battle to stack up the effect of his Battle Emperor title as he did in his second Rank promotion.
Alex also knew if he massacred the underlings too quickly, the two big fellows would show up earlier than he wanted, placing him in a troublesome situation.
The settlements were raids for a group of players, and if the players weren't too strong, the Boss would not show up until a large majority or all of the underlings were killed, but if they were getting massacred, then the boss would show up.
The battle continued, and Alex killed a few centaurs while receiving some injuries because of a large net of wind created by the four magicians, restricting his movements, or so he made it appear.
After prolonging the battle for thirty minutes, Alex achieved his goal while lowering the number of centaurs.
'Let's quickly kill as many as possible before the big guy shows up.' Alex thought as he heard the system notification of a complete 30% boost from his title.
The battle started against over thirty centaurs, but now less than fifteen remained, with the three remaining centaur magicians focused on binding Alex in place.
Alex sprinted into action, jumping high into the air and slashing his sword in quick succession, sending dark energy slashes toward the magicians.
Alex used the air jump skill to create a solid footing and then zoomed toward one of the three magicians reaching him in an instant and slicing through his wind barrier and his torso.
'Dark Vortex.'
'Dark Flame Meteor'
Alex used the dark vortex in the path of the centaur captain, who was bloody from head to covered in sword slashes, and without delay, used the meteor skill.
Alex used the phantom walk, appearing before the second-last magician and swinging his sword, oozing with darkness and sword intent.
Alex decapitated the centaur killing him instantly and spun around and threw his sword at the nearest centaur, ripping a giant hole through his chest.
Alex watched as four centaurs got stuck in the dark vortex, and a meteor burning with dark flame descended on their location.
