Chapter 34: Blood God
Chapter 34: Blood God
"OK, so it's his fault that I'm out of a job now?" The old man spread his hands in resignation, though his tone conveyed joy.
As an old vampire hunter, he couldn't resist the ravages of time, but his lifelong dream was to completely eradicate vampires from the human world. That was the purpose of his existence. For this, he was willing to die on the path of hunting vampires, and he never regretted it.
However, the old man then looked worriedly towards Blade: "That guy made so many vampires flee New York, and he's not even from our circle. What if he finds you?"
Blade was an unexpected offspring, a hybrid of human and vampire. Known as a Daywalker, he differed from other vampires in that he was not afraid of the sunlight. Though essentially still a vampire, he possessed powers and speed that matched or even surpassed those of other vampires. Everyone in the hunter circle was aware of Blade, the anomaly.
While many were probably cautious around Blade, at least their positions were aligned; they wouldn't start fighting upon meeting.
But that man might not be aware of these facts, and if one day he encountered Blade...
Thinking of this possibility, the old man couldn't help but frown.
"Don't worry, Whistler, I'm a hunter, not a prey," Blade responded nonchalantly. He was a proud man, always believing in himself. Even though that man had recently racked up impressive feats, surprising him, he still believed in himself.
"Such misunderstandings can be avoided; there's no need for accidents to happen," the old man insisted. "It looks like I need to go see some old friends, or maybe get some information from them."
"Suit yourself," Blade did not stop the old man from doing everything for his sake. Their relationship never required pretense or evasion.
Blade was more curious about that man, perhaps all the information he sought was with him. This led him to recall the ancient vampire script he had seen on old parchments, which had left him shocked, and thus he had left New York to follow clues.
Now, with the situation in turmoil, the clues he sought might have fallen into that man's hands.
…
"What do those things actually represent?"
"There's a ritual described there, the descent of the Blood God. I've told you everything!”
Atop a high-rise in New York, featuring a swimming pool, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a bar, the ash on the floor was enough proof of why the place was deserted.
Dressed in a black coat and inner lining, wearing a round hat like an elegant gentleman, Bi Xiao said politely to the vampire elder who lay collapsed on the floor with severed legs, "Although it's not necessary, I still appreciate your answers. Goodbye."
As he finished speaking, he extended his hand and a fine laser beam shot out, striking the despairing vampire elder on the forehead. As if hit by solar energy, the elder burst into flames without even a scream, completely incinerated.
"A summoning of the Blood God? Looks like a BOSS has appeared."
A smile played on Bi Xiao's lips. Since returning to New York, he had been intensively striking out, almost turning the city inside out. With his psychic powers, tracking these vampires was too easy. As a result, three deeply hidden vampire families in New York were completely wiped out.
He had probably killed over three thousand vampires in the past month, not counting the lowly vampire minions. Compared to a month ago, he felt his strength had increased more than threefold, and even then, he had been at a very high level, almost reaching the ceiling set by people like the Ancient One. Now, his strength has tripled again.
Now he could confidently say that, aside from the Ancient One, there was basically no one on Earth who could match him. The vitality in his cells, the magic growing within him, he felt it nearly overflowing, though that was merely an illusion as there was no upper limit to his cell count.
Desire for more gains was still strong in him, though, as he still felt he was far behind the Sky Father level of Odin. Even Thor in his current phase should be easy to handle, despite Thor's naturally strong foundation.
So Bi Xiao was not satisfied yet.
He could feel that the experience from vampires was diminishing as he grew, only vampires with a larger base and purer bloodlines could bring substantial life essence.
This was fortunate, as the so-called upcoming BOSS would be a significant source of experience. For this, he discreetly allowed the remaining vampires to flee the city, just waiting for the day the BOSS would descend.
As for whether he could defeat the BOSS, he had not considered it.
His gains this month were not just substantial life essence, but also magical power, the nature of which Bi Xiao had yet to analyze, though he knew that this magic was like a panacea. Besides healing, it also possessed a potent destructive property. Injected into a vampire's body, it could produce effects as lethal as the sunlight, if not more brutal. Even a tiny amount injected into a vampire with purer bloodlines would cause them to die faster and more gruesomely, like a spark igniting an oil barrel.
Initially, when he hunted vampires, he hadn't developed the use of this magic, causing him to miss this aspect. As a result, the silver weapons at home were now gathering dust.
He was fundamentally a counter to this so-called Blood God. The advantage was his.
Even if he couldn't overcome the Blood God, wasn't the Ancient One still a safety net? If the Blood God truly posed a significant threat, the Ancient One would surely intervene. So far, there had been no move from her, which essentially amounted to tacit approval.
Bi Xiao was used to making bold moves by now; he didn't lack this one time.
He muttered to himself, secure in the knowledge that he had the Ancient One figured out—nothing could stop him, not even Jesus.
