310 I Am

CHAPTER 310

Immediately the words fell off his lips, he got a slap on his arm to shut him off. “Eh! Why did you do that for?”

“That is their privacy whether or not they choose to mate,” she scolded.

“As much as it is their privacy, my baby, it isn’t.”

Jade snapped her head up to look at him. “What do you mean?”

“Take a look at Asia and Aramis for example. They mated and we all knew.”

“Hey, leave us out of this,” Asia spat out quickly.

“Relax chikita. I am speaking based on the dragon sense. Also, the faster they mate, the better for us dragons and him, the Dragon Lord.”

.....

“What do you mean by that?” Jade asked as she fell back into her seat.

“The mate bond affects one so much especially once it has not been consummated. You needed to have seen Xander when you activated it with your thoughts,” Jay narrated.

“Xyler was about to break out and be in control. Heaven knows he would have had you had Xyler been allowed to take control of their consciousness.”

The pure look of shock on Jade’s face made Sky chuckle a bit.

“Not as bad but trust us, as dragons we know. It can be bad. He was getting out of hand so we beat him to an unconscious state.”

“WHAT?” All the ladies present yelled at the same time.

“Relax, ladies. I believe they got their own fair share,” Aramis tried to calm them down.

“He better had given them,” Minerva snapped.

“Hoho, next time, I shall call you to try and stop Xyler yourself and see. Before we could knock him out we suffered punches and beating. It is only fair we managed to subdue him,” Jay countered.

“Oh.” That was all Minerva could say before averting her eyes to Jade. “You see.”

“Leave her be, Minerva. I am not complaining.”

“How can you not?” She spat sharply. “We need you as the dragon lord and we cannot afford situations like that happening. She needs to let go of her pride.”

Everyone fell silent. They knew what she said was true but who were they to force Jade. This was intimacy at the highest peak and once she did, their lives were joined for her.

Not that she would be the one on the losing end or something. She would benefit most, but she had an ache that lovemaking could not fill and that was her problem.

With no one speaking further, Minerva shook her head and let out a deep sigh. “Why do this? He deserves better than the way you treat him.”

Jade, however, had so much to say but she did not want to wash her dirty linen outside and kept quiet.

Perhaps had she not delayed, then maybe they would have been past this phase too. “Why?” she heard Minerva ask again before sitting back in her seat.

“Enough!” Xander hollered at her.

He may have kept silent but that was not because he was sacred or all they said was true.

This was the woman he loved and he was the one holding back for her sake which matter most to him. “Jade is not the one at fault here and as my council members, I think you deserve to know.”

“If she isn’t, then who...” Minerva did not get to finish her statement before Xander cut in sharply.

“I am.”

His words were like a sharp bomb to their ears, sending vibrations in ripples down their eardrum.

No one could believe what he said because they were vastly aware she tried to evade him and tried to kill him so many times but could not thanks to the mate bond.

So they felt if Xyler was this frustrated, it was because Jade was not doing something right.

“I am. I do not want to mate her. So please, stop blaming her for my fault because it is actually my fault.”

He did not wait for anyone else to speak and he pulled Jade up before taking her out of her seat. Not looking back, her stormed his way out of the meeting room, leaving them all alone.

A minute passed after their departure before the others got their senses back.

“Whoa! That was some big reveal,” Sky voiced out first.

“Tell me about it,” Jay added as he sat back up.

Neither Asia nor Macy were alarmed by what he said because Jade had spoken to them but having him own up in that manner and support her showed his respect and love for her.

“However, I have one worry,” Maron voiced out-earning him the several glares from those around.

“What is it?”

“Why would he, the dragon Lord delay such an important aspect of his life. It is both a blessing for the dragon tribe and for their queen to be the dragon king’s mate. Why delay the inevitable?”

“Because he is more concerned about proving himself and his love to her. With the mate bond kicking in, to him it feels like he is after her for sex,” Asia explained.

“Nonsense, everyone knows just how much Xander is in love with her,” Maron thrashed back.

“Yes. But he is more worried about Jade. You may not know but she is always reminded of the death of her family. Take it from me, I saw her pain a bit while we tried to escape. The pain and nightmare of not being able to see her parents one last time, as I pulled her away broke her.”

She took a pause and allowed her mind to drift down memory lane. “She was hurt, raged but she recalled everything her father taught her and escaped. According to her, most times when she is with him, she is reminded about what happened in the first place.”

They all remained silent and gave her their listening ears. More than anything they wished for this couple to be together because they suffered the most.
