Chapter 392: - The Discussion isn’t Going to Be Easy
Leon entered his Capsule Device right after returning from Olivia's hotel room. He was preparing to join an online meeting with Elincia, Maylock, and Goldrich. This was one of the unique features of Immortal Legacy-players could log into a digital meeting space where only their avatars appeared, floating in a futuristic frame. As soon as Leon arrived, he saw the other three already waiting with their avatars.
"Hi, Broken..." Maylock greeted him first. "So, big problems seem to follow you wherever you go, huh? No exception this time either."
"Khi khi khi," Goldrich chuckled. "Hell itself-a completely new place. But even I didn't expect the situation to escalate this much."
Broken, using his avatar, simply nodded in acknowledgment, staying quiet as the meeting began.
Elincia chimed in, "If only we could join you and help complete the challenge."
"We could, if we knew how to reach that place," Maylock responded. "But for now, it seems pointless."
With the small talk out of the way, Maylock shifted the focus to reviewing the video Broken had captured from his fight with Gremory, as well as the additional information he had provided.
"Honestly, I can't think of a better solution than all three of you going all-out to finish this challenge," Maylock added after finishing his review.
Elincia nodded. "But even with that, you're still not sure they can win, Maylock?"
"I don't want to say this, but yes, the chances are still very slim," Maylock replied. "Unless, Broken, you have some other miracle you've been keeping hidden."
"Khi khi khi..." Goldrich chuckled. "This is the kind of problem that even the full team of the Ass Guild would struggle with, Broken. Not to bring your morale down-just to show you that a simple solution won't work here."
By "simple solution," Goldrich was referring to the typical strategy of repeatedly facing the demon until they could map out all its attack patterns. It was a common approach, but clearly, it wouldn't be enough against a Named Demon like Gremory. Repetition and learning might help, but they'd need far more than that to overcome the challenge.
After the long discussion, the conclusion remained disheartening. Even Maylock, despite his strategic mind, was convinced that victory was still far from certain. However, having a plan was better than rushing into a brutal fight without any strategy at all.
Armed with some new data and the potential to explore the synergy between the three Divine Champions, Leon held onto a sliver of hope. With a better plan, they might stand a chance against Gremory, the Named Demon.
But, without a doubt, Named Demons were a real pain. And this one was only ranked in the 50s-what about the ones ranked even higher?
Leon pushed those heavy thoughts aside as exhaustion pulled him into a deep sleep, almost as if he was being swallowed by his bed. Damn, this isn't just about fighting demons, he thought, fading into sleep. It's about dealing with two women constantly clashing and arguing.
Surely, managing human relationships was far more complicated than facing any monster.
That morning, being a Monday, Lily had already left by the time Leon woke up. He quickly got ready, had breakfast, and then entered the Capsule Device again, mentally preparing himself for the inevitable tension between the two women. Damn he thought, this discussion isn't going to be easy.
Should he take a firmer stance? Be more dominant? Or just let them sort out their differences on their own?
The thought crossed his mind—it was already challenging enough dealing with just two people clashing. How did Guild Masters manage to lead entire groups, with dozens or even hundreds of members, each with their own issues? The pressure of leadership weighed heavier on him, even before the conversation began.
When Broken logged in, he found that the two women were already online-and, as expected, they were locked in a heated argument, trading sharp remarks. The moment he appeared, though, they both went silent. Even through their avatars, the tension between them was palpable.
"Hi everyone, good morning!" Broken said, trying for a cheerful tone.
Damn, that's so out of character, he thought.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Neither of them responded. The silence hung in the air, thick with unresolved tension.
What would Elincia do in this situation? he wondered. No, Elincia would just shout and force them to submit, but that wasn't his style. What about Paul? Paul, the arrogant Guild Master, would probably assert dominance and push everyone into submission with sheer force of will. But that wasn't the way Leon operated either.
Guess I'll just have to be myself, he decided, opting to pretend he didn't notice the tension between them. Yet, choosing the right words to break the ice was proving harder than he'd imagined.
"So, let's get started, shall we? We've got a lot to discuss. I've already sent the video recordings and the analysis my friend did on Gremory," Broken finally spoke, though he could feel the heavy, awkward atmosphere in the online conference.
It was strange-he could chat casually with both girls separately, but here, the tension was suffocating.
He proceeded to break down their strategy, using the data prepared by Maylock and his own analysis. It should have been straightforward.
"Broken, tell her to stop fighting on her own. Her movements are too aggressive and sloppy; it's messing up the team's coordination."
Broken froze for a moment.
"Broken," Charmelyn snapped. "Tell her that's how an Assassin fights. Maybe she's struggling to control her dog form because she's used to fighting with a whip, but still thinks she's some kind of genius. Spoiler: she's not."
Damn! They're still at each other's throats! Someone... Help me!
"Cough!" Broken cleared his throat. "Listen, everyone, here's the plan. We'll have Blade Phantom focus on attacking the camel while Marlene takes the lead on Gremory. I'll switch roles depending on the situation, but this way, we can split the damage more efficiently and optimize our strategy."
He continued explaining the details, breaking down each part of the plan. Despite the initial tension and sharp exchanges, after some intense moments of discussion, it seemed everyone was on the same page with the strategy.
One key piece of advice from Maylock stuck with him: Maylock had asked Broken to record the entire fight from multiple angles-from both Charmelyn and Marlene's perspectives-as if he was already anticipating that even their second attempt might not succeed. "Damn, I really have to get used to failure, especially when facing an opponent as strong as a Named Demon."
After the meeting wrapped up, everyone logged out, having agreed on the exact timer for their next login. Whatever happened, they needed to enter the game at the same time and execute the plan with precision. At least this time, they were more prepared.
Leon couldn't help but worry about the tension between Charmelyn and Marlene. He could only hope they would set aside their differences. It was obvious that, in Marlene's eyes, Charmelyn's actions were unforgivable. They had been destined to be enemies from the start, but now circumstances forced them into an uneasy alliance.
Leon glanced at the countdown displayed on the screen of his Capsule Device. As the timer ticked closer to zero, the device activated, pulling his consciousness back into the game, transporting him to the demon's world-straight into Duke Gremory's Throne Room.
What fate awaited the three of them this time?
