Chapter 1106: Chase (20)
Kyran ignored the security personnel and instead picked up his pace.
At the security personnel's shout, all eyes, both mages and security personnel, were suddenly fixed on Kyran and his pursuer.
Since the objective of the security personnel inside the portal area was to ensure that every mage inside had approved documents, their vigilance was not as fierce as those outside.
Nonetheless, that did not mean that they could not react to unexpected situations.
As if a spell had been cast, the other security personnel and mages alike reacted instantly to the sight of the security personnel shouting at someone who seemed to be rushing toward a portal.
The security personnel's reaction was reasonable. They reacted simply because it was part of their responsibility. However, the mages reacted because they were displeased by the idea that someone wanted to take advantage of the inspection to slip past the security and enter the portal.
It went without saying that every mage inside the portal area had important matters to attend to. Nonetheless, to avoid getting banned in the Junction Port, they willingly abided by the inspection.
Alas, there was one who did not share the same sentiment as most of them, and that annoyed them more.
"Hey!"
One of the mages who had just finished getting inspected stepped out of his line and summoned his staff.
Magic arrays and smaller arrays alike appear around him. The magic array was summoned by the mage, while the array came from the portal area's huge array formation of the portal area.
The arrays did nothing but observe the mage's movement. Apparently, those arrays were observation arrays that determined whether the mage was about to summon an offensive spell or had thoughts of creating trouble.
"You are asked to stop—!"
Bam!
Even before the mage could complete what he was saying, the mage in white disappeared from his field of vision. After that, he felt a solid object akin to a sledgehammer slammed on his left torso.
"Guak!"
The mage was taken by surprise and was thrown to the side toward a crowd that had yet to be re-inspected.
As soon as the observation arrays detected the movement, its golden hue color turned reddish, and an alarm resounded.
The security personnel moved into a formation at once, their communication devices attached to their ears blared with instructions.
The crowd of mages either moved to the side or took out their magic weapons. The former were those who did not want to get in the way, while the latter were those who wanted to assist the security personnel in any way they could.
While all these things were happening, another array appeared before the female mage in white. Unfazed about the movements around, she stepped into the array and, in the blink of an eye, arrived directly at the portal she was aiming for.
However, rune writings appeared on the ground five meters in diameter around the portal.
Following that, a metal-like door emerged from the space above and below the portal.
It seemed the head security personnel inside the portal area had already activated another security measure that prevented unauthorized entry to a portal.
Moreover, transmission arrays started to appear around the portal the female mage was aiming for.
A smile tugged at the corner of Kyran's lips.
He was aware of the security measures placed on each portal and which formulas in the portal area's array formation would activate in certain situations.
In fact, when he punched the mage who tried to stop his advance, he expected the observation arrays to change color and trigger the main array formation's alarm. Violence inside the portal area was one of the triggers that he saw on the formation earlier.
Others might find it strange that Kyran was doing all this when it could have ended with him getting caught.
But if they were aware of the time gap on each activation sequence of the array formation, they would realize that all of these were only preparation for what he was truly aiming for.
Security mages stepped out from the transmission arrays, their magic weapons aimed at Kyran, who was the 'female mage in white.'
Fooom!
Magic arrays surrounded Kyran, their color a hint of green, made him smile wryly.
Though the runes used on the magic arrays were different from the ones used in the Lower Realm, they were clearly Restraining magic.
It appeared that rather than taking him out cold, they chose to restrain him. This was not that surprising. If it had been him, he would have done the same thing because he would have wanted to interrogate the intruder.
But unlike them, Kyran would have used a different method to restrain the intruder. Rather than using Restraining magic, he would knock them out cold and make them wear anti-magic stones.
The wristbands on Kyran's hands glowed, and a force, akin to a shockwave, erupted from him. Following this, the Restraining magic that the security mages summoned was shattered as easily as a fragile glass.
The security mages' eyes widened in surprise. Nonetheless, they did not lose their composure, and instead, one group summoned Chain-binding magic while another cast debuff spells on Kyran and support spells on their fellow security mages. Apart from them, two security mages closed in on Kyran while summoning offensive spells.
Before any of those spells could touch him, an array appeared right in the middle of the metal-like doors that were about to secure the portal Kyran was going for.
It was another transmission array.
"Aimed at that array!"
One of the security mages shouted.
The others did not need to be told twice because as soon as they saw the array, they immediately shifted their attention and cast spells accordingly.
In the split second that they got distracted by the transmission array, runes emerged from Kyran's coat.
"That's—!"
Two of the security mages caught sight of the runes coming out of the female mage's white coat and immediately recognized that it was a consumable magic item that allowed a mage to teleport.
Before any of them could make a move, an array with an ominous reddish hue appeared right above Kyran's head.
Crackle! Foooooooom!
Following that, a beam of concentrated magic energy fell from within the eye of the reddish array and instantly destroyed everything within its range.
That offensive array came from the portal area's array formation.
When the security mages saw this, they shivered in fear and immediately stepped back.
The other mages who witnessed the array insta-killing the female mage were also dumbfounded. They did not expect such a simple episode of not wanting to be inspected would end up with death.
Then again, was the female mage's violation only that?
A few of the mages with good hearing heard from one of the security personnel's communication devices that the female mage's description was similar to the one who made a commotion outside.
It was one thing to have one violation, but two? Other than that, if the female mage was the one who made a commotion outside and actually managed to enter the portal area even after the Junction Port's security made a move, it posed a huge threat. The reason they decided to eliminate her in an instant was likely because they did not want that threat to come to fruition.
While the crowd, security mages, and security personnel followed through with their protocols after dealing with the female mage, a transmission array appeared at another location of the portal area.
Kyran stepped out of the array and scanned his surroundings. Because of the inspection, all of the mages were advised to gather near the entrance of the portal area. Apart from that, because all of the security personnel responded to the appearance of the intruder, there was no one left to guard the rest of the portals located at the back.
'It's not like they have to guard the portals since each of them has their own security measures in place,' Kyran thought wryly, recalling the metal-like door that was about to close off the portal he was 'aiming' for.
In fact, Kyran did not plan on entering that portal. He would not have made the mistake of getting caught in the middle of all that if he did. Besides, if he truly wanted to enter that portal, and for argument's sake, he succeeded.
The Junction Port's security would definitely inform the security on the other side of the portal about his unauthorized entry, and that plane would definitely be on high alert.
Kyran wanted to avoid that as much as possible. Apart from that, he did not want to leave any record when he passed through the portal leading to the Blade Dancer Clan's plane.
The only way to ensure that his entry was not recorded was to influence the portal's nature using the Void.
Taking a deep breath, Kyran looked at the portal that led to the Blade Dancer Clan. It took some time, but at least he finally got in.
With that in mind, Kyran circulated the Void in his body and touched the portal. The portal shifted slightly, its bluish hue turning into a dark purplish hue.
Kyran stepped inside soon after, and once he disappeared, the portal returned to its original color.
