Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1071: Stirring

The Main Palace consisted of several smaller mansions. Aillos, the head of the Dragon Clan and the most powerful dragon among them, occupied all three mansions located in the north. The Throne Room, where he held court with Ames, was a sacred place located at the heart of the Main Palace. In the remaining spots from the three cardinal directions, several other mansions were equally constructed.

Ames, the second most powerful dragon of her generation and Aillos's daughter was granted a mansion in the east. When Aillos ordered Kyran's transfer to the Main Palace, Ames suggested making room for him in her mansion.

However, Aillos rejected her suggestion. Instead, he planned to have Kyran stay in the room opposite his chamber in his own mansion.

This caused Ames's complexion to pale. As much as she trusted her father, she was afraid that he would snap again and attack Kyran in his sleep. Her concern was unwarranted because she believed that if the matter with Coelus was confirmed, her father might think the best course of action was to kill Kyran so Coelus's corpse would stop resonating with him.

Ames knew that hiding Kyran in her father's mansion was the safest option. Despite its grandeur, the mansion was a sanctuary, home to only her father and a few selected quilins. The amount of its empty rooms would provide ample camouflage, ensuring Kyran's safety.

Even if someone realized something and guessed her father was hiding someone in one of his rooms, no one would dare search around it with him around.

Aillos then talked to the Governor of the Fort, where the transportation array Ames used to go to the Main Palace. This was to ensure that none of his daughter's activity would be leaked to the others. Moreover, he would need the Governor's assistance to ensure that Kyran's transfer to the Main Palace was kept secret.

After taking the necessary measures to keep Kyran's condition secret, Ames returned to the villa while Aillos prepared the room next to his chamber, where Kyran would stay.

Back in the villa, Cyneah, the rest of the Regis Family, and even Leif and her people were still awake. They finished their dinner a couple of hours ago, but they were all worried about Kyran, and sleep eluded them

When Ames returned, she immediately gathered everyone and got them to prepare. Although her father only ordered Kyran's transfer to the Main Palace, Ames intended to have everyone stay in her mansion. She knew the Myst, Raya, and the rest of the Regis Family would become restless if Kyran were transferred to a place they could not reach, given his current condition.

Besides, she suggested using them to venture into Coelus's tomb and investigate the seal's status. She could not go back and forth between the Main Palace and the villa to monitor their progress. Others would definitely notice her movements if she were to move around all around.

Ames had to stay in the Main Palace because Kyran would be there, which meant Cyneah had to stay there as well. If Ames left Cyneah in the Main Palace to watch over Kyran alone, who knew what kind of trouble the younger woman would attract just by her being there?

Cyneah's presence in the Dragon Clan was actually a sensitive matter. Although Ames claimed that she was part of the Regis Family because she was the Regis Family's Young Master's other half, she did not have his scent.

Actually, Cyneah did have Kyran's scent, but it was so faint that most of the Elder dragons were not convinced. If not for the support she received from the younger generation of dragons because they admired her bravery and beauty and Aillos's approval of her status, the Elders would insist that Ames send her back to the Lower Realm.

Cyneah was vulnerable at the moment because the effect of Kyran's domain still lingered in her. If she could use her magic sense, at least, she could fend for herself if those annoying dragons, in favor of those similarly annoying Elders who did not welcome her, plotted schemes against her.

Alas, what Kyran did actually brought more trouble for Cyneah.

Ames was not wrong to think this because she did not know the full extent of Kyran's Void Domain's effect. In truth, because his domain covered her like an invisible veil, any attempt of others that used magic energies and even physical objects would be repelled. Thus, Cyneah was not entirely left vulnerable.

Now, the only thing left for Ames to deal with was Leif and her people. To be honest, Ames was reluctant to take them with her. However, if she left them there and they found a way to contact Overlord Oceanus, they might end up with another problem without even resolving Kyran's matter yet.

In the end, Ames decided to bring Leif and present them before her father. She believed her father could decide the better course of action to deal with them.

The transfer of Kyran and the rest and getting them settled in the Main Palace took almost two days.

Kyran's condition remained the same, which they considered a good thing because it meant his reaction to Coelus's corpse was progressing slowly.

Aillos allowed Cyneah to stay with Kyran in his mansion since he could not watch over him all the time, and it would be dangerous to have one of the quilins do that in his stead. He was not worried that one of them would telltale. Rather, he was worried that they might aggravate Kyran's condition since some of them were descendants of a unicorn and dragon sired by Coelus's first few children.

Aillos was the same. But since he was a full-blooded dragon, he could control his magic energy better than the Quilins, especially those with little combat prowess because they inherited more of their unicorn blood than their draconic blood.

With regard to Leif and her people, Aillos decided to have them stay in a separate complex in one of his mansions. He could not let them in the main mansion where his chamber and Kyran would be staying, but the complex was located on the periphery, which allowed him to keep a better eye on them.

On the other hand, Ames gathered the Regis Family to explore the tomb. She could not join them because her absence might make the other tribes suspicious, so she could only communicate with them through a tablet using an underground channel.

Raya was chosen to lead the exploration of Coelus's tomb. Myst was initially nominated because his Array Knowledge far surpassed the rest. However, Raya's magic might prove more useful in this case if he needed to look into the past and check how the seal was created.

Myst would then stay in the Main Palace and provide support in case of emergency. Besides, he could supervise Raya and the others through the tablet if his Array expertise would be needed.

Finally, after almost five days of preparation, the Coelus's Tomb exploration started, but only a select few Dragon Clan members were aware of it.

Meanwhile, a huge commotion erupted in the Higher Realm.

Following the early closure of the Tower of the Ancients, reports of all portals being destroyed surfaced. Rumors of clans belonging to The Emperor's faction failing to return before the portals were destroyed also stirred up another round of commotion.

The clans, especially The Emperor's clan, Solis, and a couple of others like the Adamas, Blade Dancer, and Glacio, started investigating the other clans that participated in the Tower of the Ancients.

They started their investigation even before they discovered that apart from the clans supporting The Emperor, the rest, especially those in support of the Dragon Clan, managed to return to their clan in one piece. Although a few were injured, and some even suffered fatal ones, they still returned.

Because of this, another rumor emerged that might cause a huge shift in the not-that-long-ago status quo between the Dragon Clan and the Solis Clan.

The rumor stated that the Dragon Clan representatives attacked and kicked all clan representatives supporting the Solis Clan.

It was unknown where the rumor originated or if the rumor itself was spread by someone from the Solis Clan or a clan under their faction. However, those who were made aware of it felt that it did make sense.

The Dragon Clan successfully fend for themselves when the Solis Clan, with the help of a few other clans under them, attacked their plane. This alone was a testament to their strength. It was not wrong to think that their clan representatives had the ability to attack or even kill the Solis's representatives and all those under them.

In the Dragon plane, inside the Throne Room of the Main Palace, Aillos's brow furrowed after receiving the news.

A dragon in human form, wearing silver armor, knelt before him. This dragon was one of the scouts who were keeping an eye on the movement of the Solis Clan, and his name was Neven.

Aillos had already heard from Ladon and Thorn's report that Kyran dealt with the rest of the representatives in the Tower of the Ancients. However, he was also informed that Kyran left a few representatives from the Blade Dancer Clan and one from the Solis Clan alive and used them as informants.

"Are there truly no survivors from Solis Clan?" Aillos asked Neven.

"Officially, there are no survivors, milord. However, there are clues that say otherwise. I want to look into the matter and hope you'll grant me permission to check other channels."
