Chapter 60: Vanishing Cabinet -3
Chapter 60: Vanishing Cabinet -3
"Hmmthis rune is again overlapping with the previous one. I already etched it here. Is this repetitive or stacking the rune to increase the power?" Neville is currently working on the Vanishing Cabinet which is nearly close to completion.
Sometimes he will think about the assembly of the runes and sometimes he will get new ideas that he will write down in his diary. This side project has been more thought-provoking than he initially thought. Not only his comprehension of runes has increased but his writing has also improved a lot in the past month.
He spent a whole week fixing the broken Vanishing cabinet. One might question the rapid speed of fixing this vanishing cabinet, but you have to take a few things into consideration.
1) Neville has been learning runes most of his time from the first year. Plus, he had the guidance and teaching from Ms Ravenclaw.
2) He worked hard and devoted a lot of practice time, and he improved his knowledge base every day.
3) Neville might look like a kid he is actually an adult trapped in a child's body. He can automatically think of symbols and their uses based on the knowledge of his past life that most kids in the wizarding world might not notice easily.
Neville finished the last etching on the runic design and took a break. He walked to the other cabinet and then compared his work properly. After checking multiple times, he felt he copied the rune to perfection.
This last week, Hagrid already took his new job as the caretaker of the animal sanctuary of the Longbottom family. Twins also sent a few samples of funny candies and he paid them a large sum to produce these in large quantities.
For Neville, the candies will be kept in the healing potion of the Longbottom family that will provide short term healing effects. This will be a great thing to sell and will pull the crowd of kids there. The girls also managed to sort out one thin notebook "Notes for the first year" for Hogwarts students and Pansy suggested selling this book when the library opens to the crowd. A nice idea, he thought.
The library was almost ready, and books were already being brought in from various sources. He also bought a large number of books from the famous Flourish and Blotts, although these were second-hand ones. Plus, the books from the ROR, that were fixed and covered in new covers were also sent there.
All in all, the library was ready to be open by next week and the cabinet might be fixed in the next two or three days.
"Winny?!" He yelled and Winny appeared beside him.
"Go, bring those rabbits we bought recently." He ordered Winny and then waited for his live experiment materials.
Soon Winny bought him the snow-white rabbits that they bought for the Occamy (flying snakes) and Neville grabbed one and threw it inside the vanishing cabinet.
The rabbit had no idea what happened, but it just hopped inside one cabinet and came out safely from another one. The experiment was a success, but Neville wanted to be sure. So, he repeatedly threw one rabbit after another and did the test more than 10 times to be safe.
After all, the teleportation rune and the stacking power of the runes are not to be underestimated. If one makes a slight mistake in apparating, they might lose their limbs. But if one messed up this space teleportal device, the final result might be more horrific.
A severed head or the body broke into tiny pieces or organs missing in negative space, there are many disastrous consequences with a crooked Vanishing cabinet.
"Awesome!" Finally, Neville let out a big cheer and decided to showcase his 'artwork' to the girls.
"Winny, can you please invite our lady guests here?" Neville gave the task to Winny while he moved one Cabinet inside his suitcase near the flying snakes and the other one was left just right next to the study room door.
Pansy and Hermione came soon after receiving the invite from Neville. The girls felt that Neville must be going to showcase something important or something incredible otherwise he won't invite them like this.
"Neville?!" Hermione entered the study room with Pansy following her but found the room empty.
"Ahem! Master Neville said that you must enter this Cabinet to meet him!" Winny repeated the order Neville gave her and both the girls were filled with curiosity over Neville's new toy.
Without thinking much, Pansy and Hermione entered the Vanishing cabinet, but nothing happened. They felt stupid locking themselves in a stupid empty cabinet and then Pansy, annoyed at the prank pushed the cabinet open.
"Woah!" Pansy exclaimed at the situation. She was somehow transported near the nest of the Flying snakes instantly and she instantly knew the trick. The vanishing cabinet. She knew about these, and these were very popular during the last Wizarding War. Many wizarding families kept them to escape the attack of the one who must not be named.
Neville was also standing there waiting for them. Hermione also came out and found the magical situation and then forced Neville to reveal the secret. In this way, Neville told them that they can visit Longbottom animal sanctuary very soon and then they can take a vacation anytime they want in future.
Hermione was again amazed by the secrets of the wizarding world and the things that are not mentioned in the books. In the last few weeks, she had learned new things about herbology, potions and charms. These things were personally told by Lady Augusta, learned from Longbottom family scrolls and some from Neville.
Now, Hermione found Neville was already learning a course that is available from the third year and started asking questions, but Neville kept diverting the topic.
"Hmph! Neville if you don't share your notes on the runes, then I am going to complain to Lady Augusta that you again ignored us for the whole day!" In the end, Hermione had to bring the lethal card she kept for these situations.
"Hermione, don't you think this is childish to threaten me with this?" Neville asked back, feeling that the little bushy head was again acting stupid.
"Childish or not but once lady Augusta will come to know that you ignored that guests you personally invited even after she told you to spend more time with us, I think she will be very sad.
Very very sad.
Why do you do this to her Neville? Why?" Hermione acted like a drama play and then giggled.
Pansy also laughed at the scene and for once, found Neville unable to refute them. Neville never knew their bushy head had a dark side to her. In the end, he compromised, and Hermione got unrestricted access to Neville's notes on runes.
The knowledge Neville had acquired over the past years in this way moved from Neville to Hermione. Pansy had no interest in these runes, and she was only thinking about how to make sure Hermione focused first on the three books they are writing currently.
Their laughter and joy brought warmth to this Longbottom manor that had fallen silent after the wizarding world and this could be the beginning of new friendships that might shape the future wizarding world.
