Chapter 88: You are such a jinx!
Chapter 88: You are such a jinx!
Bernie felt pain pierce through his body and groaned. The knights, without giving him a chance to recover, immediately stabbed him in multiple spots.
Perhaps it would have helped if he had the usual thick black armor that Demonic knights wore. But, as the kingdom did not have enough of them, he had to come wearing ordinary knights armor, which was changed into black color with the help of cursed stone.
Bernie felt his vision darkening slowly, but he refused to die without atleast killing the guy who stabbed him.
In a last ditch effort, he leaped onto the knight behind him, who was the one who backstabbed him, and stabbed him through his stomach. The other knights who saw this immediately stabbed him again.
Bernie felt pain in every part of his body, but he felt immense pride because he tried his best in this battle. He had not let down his king. He was going to die as a warrior, with his pride completely intact.
He looked at the ground filled with blood, which could probably be his own, and felt his conciousness and life slowly fade away.
He offered a last prayer to god, hoping that he could be born as a warrior again in his next reincarnation.
["This dude is really dedicated. He wants to become a warrior in his next reincarnation too, and is praying for it. If it was me, I would have prayed for something like, 'Please make me reborn as a rich young master', or, 'Please make me reborn in a vacation planet.", said the editor with admiration in his face.
"Just clearing something up, the people of the last world, (Lyria) believe that their ancestors become gods, and after they die, they'll become a part of the gods too. But the humans of Ilin, on the other hand, believe in a singular god, and in reincarnation. The demons and witches of course, have other beliefs.", said the author.]
------------------------------------
Merrion was literally praying to the gods at this point, as he did not know if they would win or not.
Their knights fell in mass numbers, while the demonic knights fell too, but by single digits. But, there were less numbers (way less, like 100 dark knights and 10,000 knights) of demonic knights compared to their knights, and that was his only consolation and remaining hope.
[Ok a note from the author, if I've written dark knights anywhere in the last two chapters, please think of it as demonic knights. I had first thought of calling the Demonic knights as dark knights, only to remember that I had written about some dark knights in Ayter's invasion already. ?]
The war continued fiercely. The Demonic knights were falling slowly and the number of knights was decreasing rapidly.
Finally, the number of Demonic knights fell to single digits and the knights were in hundreds.
Merrion wanted to go down and battle himself, but he knew that even if he battled, it was useless as he could at most kill one ordinary knight before dying. After all, he was an old man spending his last few years in managing his kingdom. He cursed himself for coming to this war.
Why the hell did he have the sudden urge to expand? He could have gone on vacation with his wife, but now he was stuck here, not knowing if he would make it out alive or not. The only happiness that he had left was that he had not brought his son to the battle.
Finally, one dark knight was left and around hundred and ten soldiers were left. After a fierce scuffle, the dark knight finally fell with forty soldiers living.
The three kings felt like they had just endured and survived heavenly tribulation. The king of Laitidel laughed with relief and started mocking the king of Eryeth.
"Is this all you and your ancestors did? And here I thought that it would be something deadly!", said the king of Laitidel with a mocking smile, forgetting that he had just nearly pissed his pants due to the Demonic knights.
The king of Eryeth, listening to the mockery of the king of Laitidel, did not get angry. He instead started laughing. His laughter was filled with anger.
"No. There's still one thing we made.", said the king of Eryeth with a maniacal grin.
He suddenly took out a bottle made out of wood, brought it to his mouth and drank the liquid in it.
His eyes suddenly turned blood red, and his skin turned pitch black with his muscles and veins bulging.
His hair turned blood red and his teeth all expanded with sharp edges.
He then laughed in his extremely deep voice which sounded like the roar of a beast.
"This was one of our products. We never used it on anyone because all the people we tested it on died, unable to bear the pressure that this mixture put on their body. But, luckily, it's working perfectly for me.", said the king of Eryeth.
["Two questions. The king of Eryeth is a clone isn't he? And why did the monster making mixture work for him?", asked the editor curiously.
"Yes, the king of Eryeth is currently the clone pretending to be him, and we can give an oscar for it's acting, we can, and it worked for him because it's the clone, and the clone can withstand more pressure applied on it's body than humans.", explained the author.]
Merrion felt like slapping the king of Laitidel. He was such a jinx. He had said that there was nothing deadly, and the king of Eryeth suddenly took out a potion that could change him into a monster.
The king of Eryeth rushed at the remaining knights, piercing through their stomach with his hands which had unbelievably sharp nails (like wolverine's, but he's not as powerful as wolverine).
The knights stabbed and hacked at him with their swords, but it only made small scratches at his ridiculously tough skin.
