The blacksmith looked at the young man standing in front of him and the gold coated armor that he was wearing. He was a person that believed in justice, and hence the thought of forcibly snatching the armor never came to him.
He said without dragging things out, "I'll give you 3 gold coins."
Harry was about to agree when Pluto said, "Ask him for seven, Harry. Three gold coins is too low!"
Harry followed his instructions and said to the blacksmith, "I'll give it to you for 7 gold coins."
The blacksmith sneered before saying, "5 gold coins. Take it or leave it."
Pluto immediately smiled and said, "Sell it."
Harry took off his armor and gave it to the blacksmith, and the blacksmith took out five gold coins from his pocket and gave it to Harry.
As soon as Harry went out of the shop, Pluto started speaking. "Go to the house in which the noble of this town lives in. Tell him that you want to buy nobleship and become a noble of this town."
Harry asked directions from a few commoners and reached a stone house that did not look like a place where a leader of a town lives in. He entered in and requested an audience with the noble of this town, called Lerin.
Lerin is a fifty year old man who was assigned to be a noble of this town for all his merits when he worked as a knight. Frankly speaking, he hated being a noble of this town. He felt time and time again that it would've been better if the king rewarded him with coins.
A retired old man like him only wanted some peace and quiet, but that was exactly what his king made sure to not give him. He made him a noble of this town, and hence he had tasks to do every single day, and as if that was not enough, the town's expenses were eating his savings away.
The people living in this town did pay taxes, but all of them went to the king, rather than to him, and hence when some necessity that concerned the entire town came, he had to solve it by taking money out of his own pocket.
At this point, he just wanted to sell his title of a noble and run away to some secluded little village, where he would just be an amiable old man, who all the kids liked.
But, no one was foolish enough to buy a trap set by the king disguised with fancy words like 'noble' and 'honor'. But just when he thought he was doomed to the fate of going broke, a messiah came to save him!
A young, foolish and stupid lad had personally came knocking on his door to buy his title of a noble. He had tears of joy when he heard that, and was thinking about which price to sell his title at.
He decided to not be too greedy, and propose a price of 1 gold coin, as he lost 50 silver coins due to this town, and he needed to get atleast a profit of 50 silver coins for all of his hard work, right?
As soon as Harry met Lerin, the first impression he had of him was that of a friendly old man. He had a bald head with wisps of hair and a round tummy.
The old man did not exude the aura of a noble at all. He was down to earth, not at all pretentious, and was very respectful to him and looked at him like an equal even though he was wearing shabby clothes.
Lerin made some small talk before getting to the point. "So, Mister Harry, do you really want to buy this town's nobleship?"
Harry smiled and politely said, "Yes. Please propose your price."
Lerin immediately spoke his price, as if afraid that Harry would change his mind any second. "1 gold coin! I know this sounds a bit high, but you'll get many advantages! We can still negotiate the price!"
Harry looked at Lerin blankly, completely not expecting such a low price. Even Pluto was slightly shocked, because he too did not expect such a pitiful price.
Harry suddenly smiled and said, "Mister Lerin, you and I both know the problems with being a noble. You know I won't earn even a single count from this. The only reason I'm buying nobleship is because it was my father's last wish that I become a noble and live life 'honorably'." Harry lied straight through his teeth, without even a change in his expression.
Pluto looked at Harry with wonder in his eyes. He lied so naturally that if Pluto did not know about Harry properly, he would totally be convinced by his reasoning, and maybe even touched that he was doing so much, all to fulfill his father's last wish.
Lerin hesitated for a while before finally saying, "Mister Harry, after knowing that you're buying nobleship fully aware of it's dangers just to fulfill your father's last wish, I feel touched. I'll come up clean with you. I lost 50 silver coins due to this town, and hence give me 60 silver coins. I need to atleast get some profit from selling my title of being a noble, right?"
Harry smiled and said, "Deal!"
Lerin made every person living in the town assemble for an important news that he would announce. He went up on to the roughly built stage that looked like it would break with one kick, and announced in a voice filled with sorrow, "Good Morning, all my fellow townspeople. I come up here to announce a sorrowful news. I will be selling my nobleship, and departing from this lovely town. But fret not! I made sure to sell it to a honorable young man, who will definitely lead this town well! This is the young man," He them beckoned for Harry to come on stage and then continued speaking as soon as Harry went up the stage, "that will be leading all of you from now on."
