Humans Shrunk 100 Times

Chapter 143: Date

Chapter 143: Date

"Why did you suddenly think of this question?" Tang Jing asked with a smile.

"After we stopped going to school, the concept of which day of the week it is became irrelevant. But I think since our goal is to restore our former lives, this aspect should not be overlooked," Chen Mu replied.

"Besides, in case none of us remembers the dates, I'm worried that we might never recall them again."

"It won't be that bad," Tang Jing chuckled. "But indeed, once the continuous counting is interrupted, it would be quite troublesome to synchronize it again without any network."

"Organizations like the Green Tablet, with a larger number of people, should have someone specifically recording these things," Chen Mu speculated.

"It's possible," Tang Jing nodded. "Initially, everyone was preoccupied with survival and had no time to think about anything else. After some time, they might forget, and sometimes, the more people there are, the more confusing the memories become."

"Is that so?" Chen Mu was taken aback.

"When there are more people, there will be more opinions. Something that was once certain can be questioned by three or more people, making oneself hesitate," Tang Jing explained.

"So, what day is it today, exactly?" Chen Mu hadn't thought much about it, and in the current situation, the specific date and day of the week were not crucial for humanity.

He was just considering that if they were to start farming in the future, they needed to have a rough idea of time.

However, Tang Jing's playful remarks piqued his curiosity.

"Why do you think I would know?" Tang Jing smiled.

"Is there anything you don't know?" Chen Mu retorted in a teasing tone.

"Even humans have their limitations, and I'm not a deity, so, of course, there are things I don't know."

"So, by any chance, you don't know this?" Chen Mu asked with a hint of excitement.

Tang Jing unexpectedly fell silent for some reason.

Chen Mu became a bit worried, wondering if the brilliant scholar was stumped and might get angry in embarrassment.

However, Tang Jing didn't show any signs of anger. Instead, she gazed intently at Chen Mu, her eyes showing some hesitation and complexity.

"Chen Mu."

In the midst of silence, Tang Jing suddenly spoke, startling Chen Mu.

"Yes?"

"Do you believe in me?" Tang Jing asked inexplicably.

"Of course," Chen Mu replied without hesitation.

"If one day I asked you to do something you really didn't want to do, would you listen to me?" Tang Jing's tone seemed casual, but the words she spoke appeared quite serious.

Chen Mu couldn't understand. He had merely asked about the date, so why did Tang, the academic overachiever, make it seem like doomsday was approaching?

"Well, it depends on the situation. If it doesn't affect others and is within my capabilities, even if I don't want to do it, I'll still give face to you, the student council president," Chen Mu replied, sensing that the topic seemed to have become somewhat heavy, so he intentionally lightened the mood.

Tang Jing's expression remained unchanged as she continued to gaze into Chen Mu's eyes, as if trying to discern whether his words were sincere or not.

After a short pause, she smiled faintly, "Today is June 14th, Sunday. The day the disaster struck was April 27th, Monday. We have already experienced 48 days in this apocalypse."

Chen Mu was taken aback. He had initially thought Tang Jing didn't know and was just casually evading the question. After all, she was knowledgeable and intelligent, and it was normal not to pay deliberate attention to such details.

But who knew that she was so well aware of the dates.

"You even made a point to remember the dates?"

"Is there a problem?" Tang Jing retorted.

"Why did you bother?"

"For no particular reason, I just happened to remember," Tang Jing shrugged.

"Okay..."

...

After knowing the date, Chen Mu felt like... it didn't really matter.

Nevertheless, afraid of forgetting again in the future, he decided to jot it down. Taking off the weapon around his waist, he shaped it into the form of a judge's pen, then walked to the wall, not far from the stainless steel plaque with the Illumination Charter engraved on it, and carved a few lines of small characters.

"June 14th, Sunday."

The skirting board in the storage room is made of cement, which is still too rough for the current situation. To see things clearly, one must write the words very large.

Fortunately, there's enough space.

Wei Dalei saw Chen Mu drawing something on the wall and curiously walked over, "What are you doing, Big Boss?"

"Take a look."

"June 14th? Sunday? Is this today's date?"

"Yes."

"You remember this?"

"Um... of course, I have always been meticulous and have unparalleled computational skills. I also remember that the day of the disaster was April 27th, Monday. We have experienced a total of 48 days since then."

"Wow, that's impressive!" Wei Dalei looked admiringly.

"No need to say it!" Chen Mu looked around and saw that Tang Jing wasn't nearby, so he boldly started bragging.

"But, what's the use of knowing this?" Wei Dalei suddenly asked.

"Well... I can't explain it clearly. You'll know later," Chen Mu said without changing his expression.

"Oh."

...

In the evening, Tang Jing directed Wei Dalei to take a pencil from the shelf.

These old-fashioned wooden pencils are rarely used nowadays except for filling out answer sheets.

When Dong Junwei was sorting out the cardboard boxes, she found some items other than kitchen utensils:

8 Longcheng brand 2H pencils.

65 sheets of A4 paper.

2 erasers.

The paper had been used and now served as toilet paper, although only a small piece was used.

However, they couldn't think of a use for the pencils and erasers at first.

They couldn't bear to throw them away, so they were placed on the shelf. After all, they didn't take up much space.

"What do you need this pencil for? Doing homework?" Wei Dalei found his balance and easily held the pencil with both hands as he walked down the shelf's slope, jokingly trying to be funny.

Tang Jing waved her hand and walked casually beside him, answering, "Yes."

Wei Dalei, who had always found studying extremely difficult, stumbled.

"Sister, are you serious? You want to torture me with homework at a time like this?"

As the academic committee member, Tang Jing had never hesitated to ask Wei Dalei for homework in the past. His darkest moments of the day were when Tang Jing urged him to submit his assignments with righteous determination.

Sometimes, he thought that it would be great if the apocalypse had arrived a bit earlier so that he could have avoided two years of suffering.

Tang Jing seemed to recall the pleasant mornings they had before, smiling, "Learning is a lifelong journey."

"Well, I'd rather die early," Wei Dalei said stubbornly.

"Don't worry, this homework is not for you," Tang Jing laughed.

"You scared me." Wei Dalei let out a sigh and asked, "But this pencil can't write anymore. Are you going to shrink it?"

"Yes, I'll call Chen Mu over later, and we'll make some usable pencils and paper."

"What are you going to write?" Wei Dalei inquired.

"Hmm," Tang Jing nodded, "We're going to make a calendar."
