Chapter 351: Weakness
Chapter 351: Weakness
[Rune Enlightenment (Silver) (Chain Quest)]
[The people of Earth have a deep and storied history. In its past, much of its language
encompassed the secrets of this path and embodied the hope of nations.]
[Fallen and forgotten, the ebbs and flows of time have suppressed this story's heritage. As an Earthling who has rekindled that flame, you share part of this responsibility.]
[Rise up and claim your Rune Enlightenment]
[Fragmented Requirement]
[>Gain right of entry into a System City's Library]
[Fragmented Requirement Cleared]
[Common Requirement]
[>Use entry into System City's Library to find information about Lost Civilizations and clues about an Ancient Dungeon]
Sylas' eyes narrowed.
This Quest was anything but simple. Aside from the fact that it was a bit different than the other Chain Quests in not giving him a reward with every step, there was definitely something ominous about it.
The Quest was practically holding his hand all the way through, telling him exactly what to do. But it was exactly because of this that it was definitely far more difficult than it seemed.
The System City's Library entry, for example. That could only be done if you were an established citizen of a System City. That required buying property, and if you didn't have Merit like Sylas did, even the cheapest place would cost 50,000 F Coins.
That amount of money at this stage was astronomical.
For comparison's sake, Sylas had killed over 200 demons and cleared out over a half dozen of their settlements only to come back with 30,000 Coins. On top of that, he wouldn't have even been able to be so efficient if not for having a team of Level 14s to back him up. Most people on Earth weren't even Level 1 right now; where would they find ten Level 14s, let alone ten Level 14s willing to follow their orders?
And this was all just the Fragmented leg of this Quest.
The Common leg sounded simple enough... but was it really? Sylas had a feeling that finding this information would most definitely take a while.
How many books were in that library? Would he have a reliable filtration method? And even if he did, how many of those books would he have to read?
This could easily end up becoming a several-day-long affair.
Then there was still the Bronze and Silver legs of the Quest to consider.
After some thought, Sylas dismissed the notification. The description was intriguing enough. This Quest seemed related to the history of Earth, and he couldn't help but remember the oddity of Archibald and his old English.
Were they related?
More curiously than that... why would the system give a Quest about old Earth?
Lost in thought, Sylas continued to spin. He realized that with the way things were going, it would be a surprise even if he only got a single treasure more, and he would be very lucky to get more than three, so this was the home stretch.
This was technically still a part of his reward from the Arctic Emperor Cobra incident, so he could only say that danger really did pay.
On his 367th roll.
[Basilisk Skin Armor (Silver) (Treasure)]
This time, Sylas really was out of luck. There was no surprise reversal like with the Mancer's Wand. It hurt him almost physically just to look at the stats.
[Basilisk Skin Armor (Silver) (Treasure)]
[Level: 1]
[+600 Constitution]
[Ability: Repel]
[Reflect 50% of damage for every one point of Durability]
[Durability: 10/10]
It was enough to make a man weep. Sylas had never seen a treasure with such strong stats. +600 Constitution was just its starting line. It would probably take a ridiculous number of Genes to upgrade, and Silver Genes at that, but even if he never upgraded it, this armor in its Level 1 state would probably be relevant even in the years to come.
People would likely have to be around Level 50 on average before it truly became obsolete... and that was only if it stayed at Level 1!
Even its Repel Ability was stronger than any Sylas had ever seen. All the others had been around 10%, but this one was at 50%!
'A shame...'
Sylas took a breath and exhaled. He got over it quite quickly.
He knew that if it wasn't for these Scorned Wraps and the Madness Key around his neck, he would never be able to make it so far. Since they had their rules, he would follow them... for
now.
At the same time, he had to be cautious.
For this treasure to appear for him meant that in due time, it might very well appear for someone else at some point or another. If people started walking around with treasures like this, it would be hard to take their stats at face value. He needed to get much stronger, much
faster.
Sylas looked at the beautiful black armor. It looked more like a skintight black suit, but when one looked closer, there were scale-shaped barbs across its surface. It was incredibly
lightweight.
'I'll give it to Cassarae since I can't wear it. Unfortunately, it's clearly shaped for a human, so I can't give it to the Basilisk King.'
Sylas continued to spin, and quite quickly he was at over 400 tickets used. He could feel the end coming up, and it seemed like he really might end up being unlucky enough to not spin a single one in over a hundred tickets... but luckily, his Luck wasn't that bad.
On his 425th roll.
[Gene Talent Crystal (Silver) (Treasure)]
'Oh?'
Sylas finally sat up from the ground.
His Gene Talents right now were probably his greatest weakness. He used them from time to time, but as his stats increased, their poor grades began to show. Well, this referred to Sudden Burst, Tail Whip, and Blade Aura, of course. Not Aetherflow.
Gene Talents were meant to grow with you, so technically even these weaker ones still had their uses. It was just that he usually had skills or treasures that were more worth using in a
given situation.
The main benefit of Gene Talents was that skills relied on Aether, but Gene Talents relied on your stats and personal stamina. It was like another reserve that could be used in battle. When he used a Gene Crystal, the Gene that formed came with a Gene Talent baked into it. But this Gene Talent Crystal seemed to allow him a chance to create his own Gene Talent. Sylas already knew what he wanted to do.
Ever since he saw Joel's <Shadow Warp> Skill in the Stabilizing Bracelet, he had wanted a movement method that could at least be comparable.
Would this Gene Talent Crystal be his chance to shore up his weakness in movement?
