Chapter 189: An Old Friend
The actions of the Colzen representatives were met with reverberating cheers from the crowd, adding liveliness to the entire match.
Naturally, such irksome maneuvers got the attention of the Eusford representatives.
"You Colzen lowlives…how dare you…HOW DARE YOU?!" raged Harper as he killed three more kobold militias with a single wave of his sword.
"Harper! Focus! You know this tactic of theirs wouldn't work against higher-ranked enemies. Once the Kobold Captains start attacking their barrier, it will crumble so don't mind these clowns!"
Indeed, Wendy's barrier was indestructible for the weaker ones like kobold militias but it would crumble under the continuous attacks of stronger foes.
Seeing his plan only half-worked, Shye clicked his tongue and stood up, signaling the other Colzen representatives to prepare for battle.
After a few more seconds, the Kobold captains arrived on the frontlines, hacking, and slashing at the barrier using their makeshift spears and battle axes.
Of course, Shye and the others wouldn't wait for the barrier to break.
Embers lingered in the air for a few seconds as David waved his elemental staff, casting one of the stronger targeted area skills in his arsenal, [Flame Tornado Lv.3]
Then, just when Wendy's barrier cracked…
*FWOOSH*
A huge flame tornado appeared in front of the Colzen representatives, violently burning the kobold militias that dared step forward to attack them.
Subsequently, whilst the ranks of the kobolds were in utter chaos, two savage warriors lunged forth and wreaked further havoc, quickly eliminating the weaker kobolds at an alarming pace.
Meanwhile, the priestess, Wendy, albeit a bit idle, used all of the available skills in her arsenal to assist her allies, casting buffs, barriers, and mana roots at appropriate timings, making the job easier for her allies.
Such a flashy start naturally prompted the crowd to cheer once more.
The intense action continued for a few minutes before all the representatives onstage noticed something.
'Hmm? The kobolds…don't seem to be respawning?' Shye mused.
Although he wasn't entirely sure since new kobolds were introduced every passing minute, all of them were higher ranked than the kobold militias whose numbers quickly dwindled.
Due to this observation, Shye and the others couldn't help but suspect that there was an end to this kobold army.
Such a thought invigorated their hearts, making them imagine scenes of wiping out the entire kobold army and raising their hands in victory.
Suddenly, the survival match turned into a hunting match between Colzen and Eusford.
Unbeknownst to them, their thinking was far too naive as a nightmarish surprise was waiting for them at the end of it all.
Metal clashed against metal and elements lingered in the air as the cacophony of dying screams from the kobolds filled the air.
Although everyone knew that everything was simulated, they couldn't help but slightly grimace at the gory sight.
Absolutely not fit for children to watch.
Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into an hour.
By this time, all of the representatives were panting in exhaustion including Wendy who almost got herself killed a few times due to being distracted by the bloody scene around her, making her almost go crazy.
Fortunately, she managed to overcome her fears in time as she eventually got used to the fake scent of blood and metal wafting in the air.
Although there was no way for her to kill a single one, she could at least protect herself while her teammates were busy dealing with the kobolds.
The match was reaching its climax.
By now, only around a hundred kobolds remain, however, all of them were elites.
80 kobold sergeants and 20 kobold captains remain on each half of the dome, baring their fangs on the exhausted representatives.
All of the representatives' skills were now on cooldown and what remained were their trump cards.
Chaos ensued on the main stage as the three mages, David from Colzen and two mages from Eusford waved their staff and started casting their ultimate skills
On the Colzen side, two gigantic earthen walls rose from the simulated floor and faced each other. In the middle of the walls were all the remaining kobolds, looking distressed as they observed the earthen barricades warily.
On the other hand, a mix of gale and a humongous fireball appeared on the Eusford side, instantly eradicating around 80% of the remaining kobolds, turning them into charred carcasses littering the simulated floor.
Meanwhile, David stabbed the foot of his staff deep into the ground and violently clapped his hands together, looking as if he was praying to the earthen gods.
A few seconds later, the two gigantic earth walls moved at an alarming speed, squishing all of the kobolds inside who couldn't escape in time.
However, there was a bit of a discrepancy with the results.
David only managed to destroy around 65 percent of the remaining kobolds on the Colzen side.
He was only a single mage after all, it would be hard to contend against two.
Right after the mages cast their ultimate skills, they turned into azure rays and were transported out of the arena, determined "dead" by the blue dome due to mana depletion.
On the bright side, there were only two representatives left on the side of Eusford while Colzen had three.
On the darker side, Colzen had around 35 elite kobolds left on their side while Eusford only had twenty.

Siegfried and Shye tried their hardest to slay the kobolds even while their skills were on cooldown but in the end, if they wanted to catch up to the Eusford representatives, one of them had to use their trump card.
And so, Siegfried did.
Wings of light appeared on Siegfried's back and a bright extension of light suddenly appeared on the tip of his tachi, making his weapon grow longer than a jumping pole.
He then lunged towards the remaining kobolds, taking the limelight from everyone as he slew kobold after kobold, slowly but surely catching up to the Eusford representatives.
Naturally, Shye and Wendy didn't stay idle either.
Unknowingly, they turned the match into a race on who would be able to slay the remaining kobolds faster.
Everyone on the stage thought that whoever wiped the Kobold army out first would win.
Even the crowd thought so, forgetting that the theme of the match was survival.
The hearts of the crowd, the deans, the companion students, and even the commentator started beating faster.
"Who will slay the kobolds first?! Will it be Colzen?!! Will it be Eusford?! Aaaaandd…The last kobold has been slain!! It looked like both sides finished at the same time. Let's look at the instant replay."
Just when everyone thought that the match was about to be decided by the instant replay, primal howls reverberated in the entire arena as the simulated ground of the main stage started to rumble.
The match…was not over yet.
Two massive kobolds with bulging muscles appeared out of nowhere, wearing high-quality leather armor with steel pauldrons on their shoulders.
In their hands were enormous glaives, threatening to rip the remaining representatives apart.
'Now this…is nostalgic.'
