Chapter 157: Gorgeous Young Woman
The match developments simply happened too fast and before everyone's brains could process what happened, Ryden was already lying on the ground, incapacitated.
Siegfried's decisive victory was soon followed by reverberating cheers from the massive crowd as the underdog from Colzen turned the match around with a single ghostly but powerful blow.
Those who bet their entire fortune on Colzen heaved a sigh of relief and almost wanted to cry in elation.
Although Colzen hasn't won yet, the fact that they could get a win against the top 16 academies proved that they have what it takes to achieve a top 8 finish.
Meanwhile, everyone on Amarantha Academy's side was stupefied, shaken by Ryden's by far most brutal loss.
Being defeated in such a manner after talking so much shit was just too humiliating so the other representatives from Amarantha Academy simply froze as they looked at Ryden's incapacitated body; their brains failing to think about what to do next.
Siegfried looked down on Ryden who was lying on the ground for a few moments, further highlighting his glorious victory before suddenly doing something which brought even the petrified Amarantha back to their senses.
Before the medical staff could even arrive, Siegfried swiftly took all of Ryden's equipment including his mid-grade opal-enchanted tachi, and stored them inside his spatial bag.
Then, under everyone's dumbstruck gazes, Siegfried stepped down and returned to the ringside station of Colzen Academy.
*BANG*
Seeing how the Colzen representative mercilessly looted Ryden's incapacitated body as if he were a corpse, Amarantha Academy's dean was enraged.
The armrest of his plush chair was destroyed as he slammed his hands down in fury.
Although he heard about the bet between the Colzen representative and Ryden, he couldn't believe that these Colzen representatives dared to collect their winnings in such a manner.
*BLEEP*
The enraged dean pressed the button of his mana-powered microphone to contact their strongest representative, Carlos Andrade, and give him an instruction.
"Carlos, what happened?! Didn't I tell you guys not to underestimate Colzen?!"
"Apologies, Dean Agra. I should've reminded Ryden before he went up on stage…"
"Do not make such a mistake again. We need to sweep the remaining rounds, no need to hide Ava's skills anymore, let her go wild."
"Understood"
*BLEEP*
The usually calm and collected Carlos clenched his fists tightly after the call from Dean Agra, slightly regretting the fact that he initially didn't take the words of the deans and the instructors to heart which caused them to lose the first round.
Now he understood why Dean Agra called for an urgent meeting.
Carlos took a few moments to calm his negative emotion-filled heart before deciding to accept the fact that their opponents were indeed a threat, placing them on the same level as the other top 16 academies.
After what just happened, he couldn't treat these representatives from Colzen like trash anymore.
He also instructed his teammates to shut the hell up until they take back the lead from Colzen, saving Amarantha Academy from further reputation damage.
While the Amarantha representatives were having slight internal struggles, Colzen already sent their next representative up the stage.
Ian had an annoying smirk plastered on his face as he looked at the Amarantha representatives like a bunch of clowns.
Earlier, he was truly infuriated about the fact that the Amarantha representatives were genuinely regarding them as lowlives not for the purpose of pissing them off, but "from the bottom of their heart" way.
Seeing the Amarantha representatives shut their mouths as they looked at him warily was truly satisfying.
'Hmm? Her? I thought she was just a substitute representative?' Ian thought to himself as he watched the gorgeous young woman with blueberry hair walk up the stage with intrigue.
"Ava Rosan, fourth-year scout course student from Amarantha Academy" Ava said before doing a respectful bow, catching Ian off-guard.
"I-Ian Izanagi, fourth year scout course student from Colzen Academy" Ian awkwardly introduced himself as he bowed to reciprocate the gorgeous woman's polite gesture.
'I guess she wasn't an arrogant one huh…' he thought, fully spaced out.
"Ian!"
Due to the pleasant interaction, Ian didn't notice that the referee already announced the start of the match so he almost got beheaded by a ferocious horizontal neck slash from Ava
Fortunately, a timely call from Kiin woke him up from his stupor on time, allowing him to forcibly jerk his dagger upwards and gracelessly block Ava's attack.
*CLANG*
'Crap! That was way too close! This woman's face is freaking dangerous…' Ian inwardly thought as he struggled to stabilize his footing.
Unfortunately for him, Ava wouldn't let him recover so easily.
As Ian was sliding back, Ava decisively used her skill [Blink Strike Lv.3] to suddenly reappear behind Ian who was still struggling to stand firmly, and savagely plunged her dagger deep into his neck.
*FWOOSH*
Ava was already prepared to bathe in Ian's blood, however, shockingly, as her dagger dug deep into Ian's neck, there was no blood at all.
Instead, her dagger simply passed through him as if he were nothing but a ghost.
"You're pretty good."
Alarm bells rang inside Ava's head after hearing Ian's voice behind her.
She hurriedly gripped her dagger backward before quickly spinning to stab her dagger in Ian's neck, masterfully determining his exact location through his voice.
Unfortunately, she was still a second too late as she felt a sharp pain on the left side of her waist.
Warm blood flowed through the stab wound as Ava momentarily felt her strength leave her body causing her spinning neck stab to miss by a small margin.
She was then kicked by Ian squarely in the chest, sending her rolling on the ground, and creating a horrifying trail of blood in the process.
"Puhaahk!" Ava spat out a mouthful of blood as she gently blocked the grievous wound on her waist with the palm of her left hand to temporarily stop the bleeding.
However, in the next second, a shocking thing happened.
A small emerald light illuminated her palms as the deep wound closed at a speed visible to the human eye, making Ian regret not capitalizing on his advantage.
