Chapter 442: Tianya City! A Provocation!
As they drew closer, the massive city gradually came into full view before Xiao Yi Xian and her companions.
“This city is far larger than the entire Jia Ma Imperial Capital!” Xiao Yi Xian exclaimed as she observed the bustling expanse below.
Nalan Yanran nodded in agreement. “It’s not just Jia Ma Imperial Capital. I doubt we’ve seen anything this vast even in all of the Black-Corner Region on our journey here!”
“Let’s head down and take a look. If we can use the spatial wormhole here, it will make our journey much easier,” Xiao Yi Xian suggested, descending toward the city below.
Nalan Yanran and the Void Beast, Xiao Yin, followed closely behind.
“Look over there! Those three aren’t using flying beasts and can still travel through the sky!”
“Three women, and they’re this powerful?”
“Master, why don’t those two need wings to fly?”
“Shh! Keep your voice down! If they can walk in the air without wings, they’re likely Dou Ancestors. Don’t speak recklessly, or you’ll bring disaster upon us!”
“I haven’t heard of anyone like them within a thousand-mile radius. Could they be from elsewhere?”
As Xiao Yi Xian, Nalan Yanran, and Xiao Yin approached the city, their presence quickly drew the attention of onlookers. The sight of Xiao Yi Xian and Xiao Yin treading the air without wings astonished many, sparking a wave of whispered speculation about their identities.
When the trio flew over the city gate, an elderly man in a yellow robe stationed there gazed up in shock. Although the trio’s auras were restrained, he could still sense the unmistakable presence of powerful figures.
“Why would two Dou Ancestors show up in Tianya City at a time like this? I must report this to the clan immediately!” the elder muttered to himself before hastily retreating into the city.
…
After flying past the city gate, Xiao Yi Xian and her companions landed in a quiet spot.
“Yanran, I’ve heard it still takes about a month to reach the Central Plains even using the spatial wormhole here,” Xiao Yi Xian remarked. “Why don’t we rest here for the night?”
“Agreed, I was thinking the same.” Nalan Yanran nodded.
Days of travel, especially through the dark and featureless void of space, had left them all somewhat fatigued.
After wandering the city streets for a short while, the trio found a clean and comfortable inn to stay in. In bustling cities like this, inns were not only places to rest but also hubs of information, making them ideal for quickly learning about local events.
Following a brief rest, the three ventured out onto the busy streets.
The main thoroughfare, paved with smooth stone slabs, was lined with bustling shops showcasing a dazzling array of goods. Merchants called out to passersby, and the endless stream of people moved through the streets like a swarm of ants, giving the entire city an air of constant activity and liveliness.
After a short exploration, Xiao Yi Xian easily pinpointed the location of the spatial wormhole.
However, there was a problem. The wormhole had broken down the previous day, and the Luo Clan patriarch, who managed it, was working urgently to repair it.
“Senior Sister Xian’er, the spatial wormhole is broken. Do we know when it will be fixed?” Nalan Yanran asked after hearing the news.
“No need to worry about it today,” Xiao Yi Xian replied with a calm smile. “We’ll check again tomorrow. If it’s still not fixed by then, it won’t delay us too much. After all, repairing a spatial wormhole shouldn’t be a challenge for Xiao Yin.” She cast a knowing glance at Xiao Yin.
“Right, Xiao Yin?” Xiao Yi Xian asked with a smile.
“Yes, it’s a minor issue!” Xiao Yin replied absentmindedly, her attention still darting between the goods displayed in nearby stalls.
“Exactly! Xiao Yin is a Dou Venerate and can create a spatial wormhole herself, let alone fix one!” Nalan Yanran added with a cheerful expression.
Just as the three were chatting, the sound of galloping hooves echoed from the street ahead. The street immediately fell into chaos as a fiery red figure charged down the road, knocking over countless people.
Amid the angry glares of those she’d knocked aside, a striking young woman in vibrant red clothing sat atop the crimson horse. Her features were beautiful, but her wild and overbearing demeanor was impossible to ignore. A red leather whip coiled around her slender waist, and her arrogant laughter echoed through the streets, drawing even more attention to her.
The crimson horse, blazing like a streak of fire, darted through the streets, and within a few blinks of an eye, it arrived close to where Nalan Yanran and the others were standing.
"Move aside, you worthless dogs! Get out of my way! If you get trampled to death, no one will take responsibility!"
The red-clad young woman furrowed her brows as she noticed three figures ahead who showed no intention of moving aside. Her voice was sharp and filled with arrogance as she shouted.
Xiao Yi Xian and Nalan Yanran, who had initially planned to step aside, stopped in their tracks upon hearing the girl's insulting words. Their expressions turned icy.
These two were no ordinary individuals. Xiao Yi Xian ruled over the vast Yun Empire with unquestionable authority, while Nalan Yanran was the head of the most powerful sect in the Jia Ma Empire. Both held esteemed positions. To be insulted by such an overbearing young girl naturally struck a nerve. Instead of moving aside, they continued walking forward at a leisurely pace, holding Xiao Yin’s hand without even sparing the girl a glance.
"Hmph! Do you have a death wish? Get out of my way now!"
The red-clad girl’s expression darkened as she saw their disregard. With a cold snort, she gripped her leather whip and lashed out. Her figure blurred as she charged toward the pair, the whip cracking sharply in the air as it swung at them.
Without much effort, Xiao Yi Xian raised her hand and caught the whip mid-swing. With a slight tug downward, she unleashed a force that yanked the girl off her horse. The red-clad young woman landed heavily on the ground, bottom-first.
"Ouch!"
The girl cried out in pain as she hit the ground.
"Do you know who I am? How dare you offend me! Watch out, or I’ll make sure you can’t leave Tianya City alive!" she shouted angrily at Xiao Yi Xian and her companions, glaring at them furiously.
Smack! Smack!
In response to her threats, Xiao Yi Xian casually waved her hand, striking her across the face from a distance. Two sharp, resounding slaps echoed in the air, leaving bright red handprints on both sides of the girl’s face.
“If you dare spout nonsense again, I will take your life!”
Having trained extensively in the Yun Empire, Xiao Yi Xian had grown accustomed to killing when necessary. Her actions now were already tempered and restrained, yet they carried a chilling authority that made her words undeniably serious.
