Chapter 162: Solomon and Cain II
Chapter 162: Solomon and Cain II
The sound of continuous release of bullets broke the silence of the forest. Forcing the birds nesting on the trees to fly away, meeting Solomon who was floating just above the height of the trees. He then looked at what Cain was firing at and, sure enough, there was an elemental affinity to the bulls they were to face.
Although hit by a torrent of bullets, the bulls continued charging in. This is due to the armor they had above their skin rocks. This is actually a part of an extra layer of skin, making the bullets seem like nothing but flies hitting them.
However, even this sturdiness wasn't absolute. The rock bulls weren't invincible and, just like any other form of defense, the layer of rock had a limit. This was put to the test by Cain's bullets which fired within a [0.01] second interval per bullet.
With this, the armor of the bulls were chipped away rapidly. Something which also began slowing them down which was also part of Sol's expectations.
Meanwhile, this same person in question finally found the perfect spot to do his part in the fight. Using his gravity magic to suspend him mid air, the boy was far from any harm or danger. Although he can't control it as well as King Jubilee does, he at least has enough command over it to make normal dodges possible.
But in that instance he wasn't planning on dodging. In fact, what Sol had on his hands were five grenades all with their safety pins removed as he threw it at the spot where the bulls would soon be.
"Space wall." He added, flushing out a huge amount of mana on the skill which made the rock bulls on the front hit it. The other waves of bulls couldn't follow through anymore as the grenades finally reached them exploding right away and killing the ones at the front. The same ones whose armors were already chipped away.
This also gave Cain enough time ot reload his weapon and, just like that, he continued his barrage of bullets.
Sol maintained his wall but released some of the mana used on it. With a mound of corpses in front of the bulls, it was harder for them to continue their stampede. And, with the second line of bulls also being placed under the pressure of the bullets, there was no way for them to continue running forward.
Meanwhile Sol threw another set of bombs at them. Killing most of the bulls from the second line and leaving only two more waves to finish off. A job that Sol left for Cain.
"All yours." He said through the communication bracelet as he threw another set of bombs.
"Gotcha."
Cain began preparing his other weapon. The same one he brought out during the demonstration which, was strong enough to obliterate golems in one shot. This same weapon charged at the same time that the bulls were stunned by the last set of grenades. Its tip began condensing lightning and, following Sol's prescription, Cain toned down the attack which was still deadly.
The lightning continued charging and, just as the remaining bulls screamed, Cain finally pulled the trigger.
A lightning like strike hit the location of the bulls. It came in the speed of light with the crackling of thunder soon following in its wake. There was no way to respond to the attack nor to defend against it as, the remaining monsters were caught in a large spiral of light. The winds ravaged the nearby trees. Tearing apart branches and pulling out the leaves destroying them one by one until every last bull was taken out.
Sol waited for all the chaos to settle first before landing down. Meanwhile, Cain proceeded to packing up his weaponry; assured that there was no enemy remaining.
"That was perfectly executed Cain. Nicely done."
"Thanks, although I did use up a large amount of ammunition on that attack."
"It's not like we could've avoided it though." Sol said in reply, looking at the catastrophe they left in their wake.
Most of the bulls got obliterated by the final attack of Cain. Whatever body parts remained were scattered all over the place. With most of these being irrecognizable mushes of meat. Many trees got broken down and, the center of Cain's final attack got a big hole on the ground in the shape of a circle.
"I still think this is a bit of an overkill though." Cain commented.
"Pretty much. But we had no idea how strong our enemies would be after all. I just made my estimations based on the worst case scenario."
"Still an overkill." Cain repeated.
The two proceeded to collecting data on their enemy once again. Although not much has been left from the monsters, the two still had a lot they could work with. Sol, specifically, had his [Analysis] which was used right away. Allowing him to see details about the fallen bulls. Although not much was provided by his skill since the level difference between him and the creatures was too high.
But it wasn't like Sol didn't expect this. He did. And there was only one thing that he needed to see on the carcasses of the bulls in order to arrive at a conclusion. The information saying that the creatures are [Controlled]. A status which appeared just as he expected.
"We've got a good lead again buddy."
"Let me guess, the bulls are also controlled?"
"That's actually the assumption I'd come to. Except the number of the bulls are too many. Even with our enemy being able to control them, I don't think that creature would have enough power to control a whole wave of bulls "
Sol suddenly stopped speaking. His eyes opened wider which led Cain to believe that, a useful link has been established in the head of his friend. That's why he didn't interrupt nor did he speak. He just waited for Sol whose hand was placed over his lips.
This silence was for a moment. Not even ten seconds passed when Sol murmured the word:
Unless..."
"Unless what?" Cain continued as Sol looked him in the eyes.
"Unless we're not dealing with a monster."
"Okay hold up you crazy orphan. Are you implying that we're fighting a first generation?"
"Probably. That's the only explanation that could fit in the recent events."
"Isn't that a sign for us to retreat and report this to King Jubilee?"
"No."
"What do you mean no? You just said that we're probably dealing with a first generation Sol."
"I did. But it's not like we're gonna lose."
Cain was a bit confused in that moment. Although unable to see how King Jubilee fought Herald and Kingsley, he was nevertheless shown all the information on earth's past. The Void King willingly shared all of this information to the soldier. Cain didn't understand why though but, he was nevertheless grateful. Because it allowed him to see just how much danger the ten domains was in. How much danger the whole of humanity was being placed.
These same creatures, the ones which were able to eat Seraphims, was a potential enemy at that time. Something which Cain was not ready for. Not for fear of his own life but, for fear that his whole team would get killed in the encounter.
"It's still a probability at this point Cain. Nothing is sure yet."
"But." even before Cain could continue complaining, Sol placed his palm forward. Shushing his friend as he continued explaining.
"Look. First generation or not, our enemy has yet to face us head on. And if he or she is really part of this generation, that means that his or her powers would be similar to what one of the ten domains has. Meaning, there is a high possibility of our enemy being a summoner."
Only at this juncture did Solomon finally stop. There was still much to explain but, he knew that his friend would be able to realize the point he was making. With Cain's eyes widening in realization as Sol continued.
"Among the domains, the summoners are next to the most vulnerable. All we need to do is to take out the summoner and the fight would be over."
"You crazy orphan." Cain said as a grin of amazement formed on his lips.
"That's the second time you called me that today."
"Because you are."
"Anyway, that means we have a chance at winning. And as long as there's a chance of that, there's no need to call on the king. We all have our roles to fill, so let's not get others involved on it."
"Fine. You win." Cain said, raising his hands in surrender.
"Good. Let's get going then. We'll need a safe to take a break for now."
"Roger that." Cain said, following Sol's invitation as they finally left the area.
